Chapter 174: Driving Through The Night

The car was speeding through the night down the desolate road, passing other cars from time to time. Felix leaned against the cold window glass, watching the highway lights turn into yellowish-white smudges in silence.

It’s been an hour or two since they left Silverfall. This whole time, Felix didn’t say a word.

He wasn’t in the mood for talking.

On the dashboard in front of him, there was a large bouquet of red roses, skillfully wrapped in elegant tissue paper, and tied with decorative ribbons. In the back, Vivi was dozing off, strapped to her car seat. And in the driver’s seat, there was a tall and muscular Alpha with shiny blank hair, and mesmerizing black eyes with a purple hue.

Kade.

He was sitting behind the wheel, dressed in a fancy black suit, perhaps the nicest that Felix had ever seen. But then again, Felix didn’t know nearly enough about expensive suits to assess it well. He was driving the car, but instead of having his eyes glued to the road ahead as he should, he was stealing furtive glances at Felix every now and then...

But Felix didn’t reproach him. He should have, but he just couldn’t be bothered to say anything.

Besides, it wasn’t like Kade was staring at him or anything. Those were just quick glances, lasting not even a second, after which the Alpha’s eyes were back on the road. He wasn’t driving recklessly or anything, even his speed wasn’t too fast, despite the conditions on the road not being too bad.

And his inability to stop himself from stealing a few glances was understandable, as his curiosity must have been through the roof. Felix had called him hours earlier, asking Kade to pick him up...

And that was it. No explanation as to why. Just, ’I’m willing to come to the Bloodmoon Pack if you’ll have me.’

That’s all.

Which, considering how hard Felix had resisted it before, seemed unbelievable. Anyone would find it curious, if not suspicious. But Felix didn’t explain, and Kade didn’t ask...

Even though he wanted to. The curiosity was eating him up alive. It was just that, seeing Felix’s expression, it really didn’t seem like a good moment for that!

Eventually, Felix let out a heavy sigh, tired of those inquiring glances. He had no intention to tell Kade about the reason that he had left - no matter what, it was better to keep Remi’s curse a secret - but there was one thing he could (and should) let the Alpha know.

"There’s no need for you to worry. Although I’ve left... The witch won’t betray us."

"...Ah?" Kade only lifted his brows. To be honest, he hadn’t even thought about that. While he suspected that something might have happened with the witch, since Felix was leaving Silverfall with just his daughter, without the fox, he didn’t think it was anything serious. Rather, he guessed it might be related to the incident with Jared Thorne that happened not long ago. Perhaps Felix had finally realized that relying on Kade was the best decision...

Was he wrong?

"You can still cooperate with him," Felix continued, glancing at Kade’s reflection in the window, before turning his gaze back to the dark forest on the side of the road. "Whether it’s for the potions for your father, or any other requests, he will be willing to do business with you. He just might ask for a bit... unusual payment."

"Unusual payment?" Kade couldn’t help but ask.

But Felix didn’t answer, staring out of the window in silence.

The so-called ’unusual payment’ was, of course, Felix’s blood. After all, even if Remi had some of Felix’s blood stashed, he was bound to run out of it eventually. And it’s not like he had any other blood bank available! If he had, then he and Felix wouldn’t have this problem now...

He didn’t want to explain that to Kade, though. The Alpha would probably find about it later anyway, but whatever. Remi would probably be able to come up with some excuse as to why he needed Felix’s blood.

As for whether Remi would betray them or not... To be honest, Felix didn’t know. He had left without talking with Remi, so it wasn’t something they had ever discussed, not after all the truth had been exposed. It was just a guess on Felix’s part. However, he was rather confident - regardless of what Remi did or didn’t feel toward him, Felix’s blood should be enticing enough to stay on the Bloodmoon Pack’s side! Felix believed that Remi was smart, he wasn’t someone who would cut off his nose to spite his face!

"As for communication," Felix just added, "I gave him your number, so he will most likely contact you in the following days. From now on, you can negotiate directly with the witch."

The number was naturally mentioned in the letter. Whether Remi would use it or not, Felix didn’t know - did the fox even have a phone? - but it didn’t matter. He’d figure out how to deal with any problems as they arose.

Kade stole a quick glance at him. "You’re not the witch’s assistant anymore?"

"I... quit," Felix said. "But I can still be of some help, as I’ve learned to brew some simple potions."

He had brought all the recipes that he had at home with him. Not the originals, of course - he didn’t want Remi to chase after him for stealing the secret witchcraft knowledge he had access to due to his position as an assistant - but he snapped photos of all the notes, and stored them safely on his phone, keeping backups online. Although he had some of them already memorized, he didn’t want to depend on that - after all, those were magic potions, not recipes for an apple pie. Any mistake might have had dire consequences, so Felix wanted to have the notes to double-check with!

It wasn’t anything special, though, not really. It hadn’t been that long since he had started his new, now former, job, so he had only learned the basics. But it was still a rare skill that could be useful in the future, and give Felix value...

Even Kade was a bit surprised.

"You have?" he asked, lifting his brows. "In that case, if you need any tools or ingredients, just let me know... But don’t push yourself too hard. If you want to be a freeloader, then the Bloodmoon Pack can afford that!"

Felix just rolled his eyes in response, not saying anything.

A freeloader? Kade might be fine with it... But what about the rest of the pack? Even the pack members were unlikely to be so free, let alone an outsider rogue Omega like Felix! Even with Kade’s support, his life in the Bloodmoon Pack was unlikely to be easy...
