If You Could Hear My Heart-Chapter 1679: I Have Known You for 403 Days (2)
Ling Feng was furious, "There’s something wrong with my character? I’ve endured all these years, and just in the past couple of days, I’ve been deported. Can you still say it wasn’t you scheming behind my back?"
"If I really was scheming, would you have just been deported now?" Shen Di responded calmly, unflustered by the situation.
She truly no longer had any fondness for Ling Feng; they couldn’t even remain friends.
"Besides you, who else would hate me this much? Just because I dumped you, do you have to go this far?" Ling Feng said recklessly.
He was losing his mind. Being deported meant all his efforts were wasted!
Afraid he’d say something even more egregious, the butler quickly addressed the servants, "Why haven’t you thrown him out yet?"
"Wait!" Wen Zhiyuan stepped out.
He had changed into a dark-colored shirt, standing tall and graceful.
Ling Feng’s gaze immediately landed on Wen Zhiyuan’s face with disdain. Indeed, Shen Di had let this doctor stay at her place.
Young men and women weren’t even avoiding suspicion.
"Ling Feng, were you deported because you received a lot of incriminating evidence against you?" Wen Zhiyuan raised an eyebrow, looking at him provocatively.
"You! It was your doing?" Ling Feng glared at him angrily.
"That’s right, it was me, I don’t deny it," Wen Zhiyuan said. "Someone like you, if not deported, were you going to stay for Christmas?"
"I have no enmity with you, why treat me like this?"
"If you dare to go against my girlfriend, isn’t that the same as going against me?" Wen Zhiyuan said with his hands in his pockets, glancing at Ling Feng indifferently.
"I knew it. Shen Di, didn’t you like me? You’ve changed your heart so quickly? What’s so great about this man, does he know you..."
"He’s better than you in every way!" Shen Di shouted angrily.
Wen Zhiyuan raised an eyebrow; at critical times, she stood united.
Seizing the moment, Wen Zhiyuan wrapped his arm around Shen Di’s waist.
On regular days, he’d never dare touch her, afraid she’d get mad, but today was different.
"Fine, fine, then I wish you two lifelong happiness!" Ling Feng snorted coldly and left.
The butler sighed in relief, fearing Ling Feng would spout something he shouldn’t have. Thankfully, he didn’t.
As Ling Feng left, Shen Di pushed Wen Zhiyuan’s hand away.
Honestly, this man had no gaps he didn’t exploit and took advantage of the situation.
After that commotion with Ling Feng, Shen Di felt down, sulking as she walked towards the living room.
When Shen Di left, the butler also prepared to leave. She glanced at Wen Zhiyuan and said coolly, "I slapped Ling Feng today, as you saw, so just make sure you do right by Miss. If you ever let her down, my next move won’t be as gentle as today."
Wen Zhiyuan nodded, saying nothing more.
He turned and went into the living room, following Shen Di to the bedroom.
Just as Shen Di was about to close the door, he squeezed in, holding the door open, "Don’t close it, I have something to say."
Shen Di released her hold and turned towards the bedroom.
Closing the door, Wen Zhiyuan stood by the wall, "I didn’t tell you about Ling Feng’s situation in advance. I’m sorry that you were misunderstood."
"I’m not that fragile; if I’m misunderstood, so be it."
"He bullied you like that, and you’ll just let him?"
"So what do you suggest? Argue with him?" Shen Di looked at him.
"You should have met me sooner," Wen Zhiyuan seemed to sigh, "I wouldn’t let you suffer like this."
Shen Di sat on the sofa, her gaze falling on his face. She seemed to see a hint of sincerity there.
"At least with me around, I won’t let anyone bully you," Wen Zhiyuan continued.
"You don’t need to say these things to me; we are nothing to each other," Shen Di clarified their relationship.
"What’s this? Using me and now denying it? Aren’t we boyfriend and girlfriend?" Wen Zhiyuan laughed.
"Don’t overthink it, I don’t like you," Shen Di said lightly, averting her gaze.
Yet, her heart skipped a beat...
"Then is it alright if I like you?" Wen Zhiyuan asked, looking at her, his smile gone, replaced with seriousness and sincerity.
Shen Di was stunned. She lifted her head again, trying to find a hint of jest in his face.
But there was none.
He was serious, earnest, his gaze deep as the ocean.
Shen Di laughed at herself, "How long have we known each other that you claim to like me? Are young people today so impulsive?"
"You talk as if you’re old," Wen Zhiyuan stepped closer, standing in front of her, looking down, "I’ve known you for four hundred and three days."
Shen Di’s face was filled with astonishment, looking at him incredulously.
"Last year, at that concert in Sydney, have you forgotten? I was in the audience then," Wen Zhiyuan explained, "There are some people, once they decide, they don’t change. What follows is a determined pursuit."
Shen Di’s face showed even more astonishment, and she fell silent.
"I spent a year getting to know you and a month being with you; now I can tell you, my original intention hasn’t changed," Wen Zhiyuan said.
He hadn’t expected to confess to her today, but he had liked her for a long time; whether today or tomorrow, wouldn’t it be the same?
These words required no preparation; they came from the heart.
Shen Di’s heart skipped a beat, seeing Wen Zhiyuan’s sincere expression, feeling a long-lost stirring.
She admitted, she didn’t dislike this man...
In fact, she had a pretty good first impression of him.
But thoughts of Ling Feng made her furrow her brow, instinctively retreating.
"I know it’s a bit sudden, you don’t have to answer me now, you can think about it," Wen Zhiyuan smiled, "I’m someone who stands up to scrutiny."
With that, Wen Zhiyuan squatted, so they were face to face.
Just as Shen Di wanted to move back, Wen Zhiyuan’s big hand landed on her head.
"Like a child," he smiled.
"I’m older than you, don’t treat me like a child."
"Mm, three months older."
"That’s still older than you!" Shen Di retorted.
"Then should I call you ’sister’?" Wen Zhiyuan chuckled, "Alright, in my eyes, you’re no more than... eighteen. Let’s not dwell on it, shall we?"
Shen Di pushed his hand away, a little evasive in her eyes; she didn’t know what to say.
This version of Shen Di evoked a sense of pity in Wen Zhiyuan. Thinking she’d encountered jerks like Ling Feng, he couldn’t help but feel a pang.
Moved by pity, he pulled her into his arms, holding her tight.
"Rest assured, with me here, no one will bully you again," Wen Zhiyuan promised her.
Shen Di tried to break free, but Wen Zhiyuan only hugged her tighter, pressing her into his embrace.
"You don’t have to answer me now; take your time, a year, ten years, however long you need," Wen Zhiyuan said.
"What if I don’t answer for ten years?"
"Then I guess I’ll just wait a lifetime."
He was serious.
