If You Could Hear My Heart-Chapter 1680: I Have Known You for 403 Days (3)
Perhaps Shen Di no longer believes such words, so when they reach her ears, she just smiles indifferently.
"I won’t be like Ling Feng, trust me," Wen Zhiyuan sighs.
The simpler the girl, the harder it is for her to heal once she gets hurt.
"Let go of my hand," Shen Di says.
"Alright." Wen Zhiyuan thinks, there is a long way to go, he isn’t in a rush.
He releases his hand and looks down at her, noticing a blush on her face.
"I’ll go cook. If you feel bored, come help me," Wen Zhiyuan says.
"There are servants, you don’t need to cook."
"I just want you to taste my cooking, that’s all."
After saying that, Wen Zhiyuan leaves, closing the door behind him.
Shen Di watches his departing figure, feeling a special sensation gradually spreading in her heart, like spring grass growing further and further.
She feels a bit lost, like a ship that has found a harbor but doesn’t know how to dock.
She fears deception, fears disappointment...
Perhaps her heart is too chaotic, so she goes to the music room and casually plays a piece on the violin.
Wen Zhiyuan, who is cooking, hears the violin sound and shakes his head helplessly; it’s another sad and lonely tune.
He definitely needs to help her change this bad habit.
"Dr. Wen, let me do it." The butler, Xie, watches Wen Zhiyuan cooking.
"No need, I’ll do it." Wen Zhiyuan replies, "Butler Xie, have dinner with us today. I can tell Adi has always treated you like family."
"Miss treats me well, I know that."
"Thank you for taking care of Adi all these years. From now on, there will be one more of me."
"Dr. Wen, if you are serious, then I am relieved."
"I am serious," Wen Zhiyuan says.
He’s prepared some typical home-cooked dishes from China and a few specialties from C City, knowing that it’s been a long time since she returned home.
Butler Xie looks at him, her expression heavy.
After a long pause, she says softly, "Young Master Wen, if I’m not mistaken, you will return home one day, as the Crown Prince of the Wen Family’s medical group."
For the first time, Butler Xie uses this title to address him, causing Wen Zhiyuan to pause.
Soon, he regains his composure and calmly states, "Butler Xie, you’ve investigated me."
"I must, for I have always considered Miss as my daughter, and I won’t allow anyone to deceive her again," Butler Xie says. "You concealed your identity when you came; I won’t dwell on that. But now, is there any argument you can offer?"
"I know Adi cannot return home, so I will stay and settle here with her." Wen Zhiyuan is earnest.
He has already considered this. Since Shen Di cannot leave, he will stay.
"Ha, you’re willing to stay, but will your family let you?" Butler Xie scoffs, "I told you, if you can’t treat Miss well, don’t start lightly."
"I will convince my family."
"I hope you have that ability."
Wen Zhiyuan says no more, but he believes he can.
Butler Xie has no trust in Wen Zhiyuan. She had someone investigate his background and was surprised by what she found.
She didn’t expect Wen Zhiyuan’s family background to be so prominent, and yet he was willing to come from Sydney to Melbourne, staying by Shen Di’s side, content to be a family doctor.
It’s not that Butler Xie doesn’t trust Wen Zhiyuan; it’s just that his background is there, making it hard for her to believe.
As the only son of the Wen Family’s chairman, it’s a certainty he will inherit the family business; how could he not return?
"I hope you reconsider. Men can be carefree, but women can’t, especially someone like Miss," Butler Xie says no more, trusting that Wen Zhiyuan is a smart person.
Shen Di can no longer bear any harm...
"I understand."
In those two words, Wen Zhiyuan sums up countless expressions.
Butler Xie leaves the kitchen without saying more.
She indeed had someone look into other matters about Wen Zhiyuan, but aside from his identity, there was nothing else to disappoint her.
Wen Zhiyuan, despite his prominent status, has never been arrogant and conceited, known for his humility and dedication to his medical skills.
Regardless, Butler Xie remains cautious.
During dinner, the table isn’t just for Shen Di alone; Wen Zhiyuan and Butler Xie join her.
Butler Xie initially refuses, but gives in to Wen Zhiyuan’s persuasion.
"Try the dishes I made. If you like them, I can cook for you every day," Wen Zhiyuan says, placing a piece of rib on her plate.
"Doesn’t a man cooking feel degrading?" Shen Di asks lightly.
She’s thinking, if Wen Zhiyuan backs out knowing it’s hard, it would be a perfect ending.
"There’s nothing degrading about it, I’m happy doing it," Wen Zhiyuan doesn’t mind.
Throughout the meal, Shen Di’s mind is elsewhere.
If she said she felt no emotions, it would be a lie.
At least, when she’s with Wen Zhiyuan, she isn’t unhappy.
The questions he poses really require her serious consideration.
After lunch, Shen Di takes the initiative to suggest talking with Wen Zhiyuan, surprising him, but he agrees.
The two stroll along the winding, quiet path outside the villa.
"Dr. Wen, did you know that when Ling Feng courted me, he was just like you? Is it that when men pursue women, they all use these tricks?" Shen Di laughs, her expression no longer so serious.
"Hmm?" Wen Zhiyuan is surprised too, "No, am I really like him? That won’t do."
"What I mean is, Ling Feng was also very kind to me. He cooked for me too, though his cooking wasn’t as tasty as yours. Later, I found out he was a privileged young master who couldn’t cook at all. For me, he learned for a few days, which was quite an effort for him."
"It’s different," Wen Zhiyuan laughs, with a hint of pride in his voice, "I learned to cook after graduating junior high and coming to Australia. I’ve always been self-reliant."
Hearing him, Shen Di laughs, "That’s indeed different."
Shen Di does not know Wen Zhiyuan’s background; she always thought he was a top student who came abroad through his own efforts.
"Actually, there’s a lot I can do, but you have to take your time to discover," Wen Zhiyuan says, "But, the premise is that you give me a chance to stay by your side."
Since confessing during the day, Wen Zhiyuan no longer feels distant but closer to her.
"I haven’t chased you away."
"Hmm, that’s me overthinking. I just fear that if I upset you accidentally, I’d have to pack up and leave."
"Am I that unreasonable?" Shen Di looks up, her large, watery eyes gazing at him.
Wen Zhiyuan’s heart stirs, and he feels a pure urge to kiss her when leaning down.
She’s like a crabapple flower after the rain—neither delicate nor enchanting, but possessing a beauty that invites admiration.
"No, you’re very reasonable." Wen Zhiyuan’s large hand still rests on her head, with a smile at the corner of his mouth.
