"PAPA, am I sick?"

Wonyoung froze for a moment because of Yun Yuhyun’s question.

They were back at the café on the first floor of the hospital.

His son wanted ice cream.

Luckily, the café had chocolate sundaes on its menu.

"You’re not sick, Yuhyun-ah," Wonyoung said while shaking his head. "But we want to make sure that you’re healthy."

"Then is there something wrong with my nose, Papa?" Yun Yuhyun asked curiously. "Do I smell things I’m not supposed to smell?"

As expected, his son was quick-witted.

Well, Yun Yuhyun did hear their conversation at the doctor’s office earlier.

But it was still amazing that his son managed to understand everything that clearly.

"Yuhyun-ah, we believe you can smell pheromones," Wonyoung explained to his son. Yun Yuhyun had to know anyway. "Do you know what pheromones are?"

Yun Yuhyun nodded. "Yes, Papa. Pheromones are what separate Betas from Alphas and Omegas. Only Alphas and Omegas have pheromones."

"Correct. Only Omegas and Alphas have pheromones, and only they can detect pheromones. Betas can’t do that."

"Then, if I can smell pheromones, does it make me an Alpha or an Omega?"

"We don’t know about that yet, son. Children usually manifest their Secondary Gender at seven years old. But you’re only five. That’s why we are worried as to how you can already detect pheromones."

"Is that a bad thing, Papa?"

"To be honest, I’m not sure," Wonyoung said, smiling bitterly. "Being an Omega and an Alpha is hard, so I find it unfair that children manifest as early as 7 years old. I’ll probably be sad if you manifest now. Not because being an Omega or an Alpha is a bad thing. It’s just my wish for you to enjoy normalcy a little longer."

Yun Yuhyun tilted his head to one side. "Is being an Omega or an Alpha not normal, then?"

Wonyoung was shocked by Yun Yuhyun’s innocent question.

His son wasn’t challenging his beliefs, but that made him reflect on his mindset.

The child was right, after all.

I’ve lived longer as an Omega than a Beta, so being an Omega is ’normal’ to me. Why did I think that Yun Yuhyun’s life wouldn’t be ’normal’ anymore once he manifests as an Alpha?

"Papa, is being an Omega or an Alpha a bad thing for you to worry that much?"

Again, Yun Yuhyun asked an innocent question that made Wonyoung ashamed of himself and his way of thinking.

Why am I acting like it’s the end of the world?

"Yuhyun-ah, thank you."

"For what, Papa?"

"For making me realize how wrong my mindset is," Wonyoung said, holding Yun Yuhyun’s hand. "You’re right, Yuhyun-ah. There’s nothing wrong with being an Alpha or an Omega. The transition may not be easy, but it’s not something that we should be ashamed of. I’m sorry if I made you feel that being an Omega or an Alpha isn’t normal."

"No, it’s not like that, Papa. So, you don’t have to apologize," Yun Yuhyun said while shaking his head. "I know that you’re just worried about me. I’m just curious why."

"I guess I’ll be worried about you over anything because you’re my son."

"Because Papa cares about me?"

"I do, Yuhyun-ah— I care about you a lot."

Yun Yuhyun blushed as if he were suddenly shy, but the kid couldn’t hide his wide grin either.

Obviously, his son was happy to know that Wonyoung cared about him a lot.

"Yuhyun-ah, do you like me better now than you did when we first met?"

"Yes, Papa. I like you better now," Yun Yuhyun confessed shyly. "You’re not mean to me anymore either, so I’m happy these days."

Aw.

I regret the days I was mean to my son.

"And I like that Papa touches me now," Yun Yuhyun added, looking at their hands. "You don’t like it when I touch you before, Papa."

Okay, now Wonyoung wanted to beat himself up.

I also don’t know why I acted that way towards Yuhyun before.

"I’m really sorry about that, Yuhyun-ah," Wonyoung said, squeezing Yun Yuhyun’s hands gently. "But I don’t hate this anymore, so please don’t hesitate to come to me and hug me if you want."

Yun Yuhyun beamed, smiling and nodding eagerly. "Yes, Papa."

"I’LL give it three to six months before Yun Yuhyun manifests his Secondary Gender. Based on the pheromone level that I’ve seen on his blood test result, it’s likely that he’ll awaken as an Alpha."

Wonyoung already expected that, but he was still a little shocked that Yun Yuhyun was really going to manifest earlier than expected.

"Of course, Yuhyun-ah. Even if you manifest as an Omega like me, it would still be a good thing," Wonyoung said while gently rubbing Yun Yuhyun’s back. "So, don’t be afraid of manifesting your Secondary Gender. Your daddy and I will be with you every step of the way."

"Your papa is right," Yun Dujun added. "We’ll give you all the support you need once you manifest, so don’t worry about anything."

Yun Yuhyun looked at his Alpha father and smiled. "Okay, Daddy. I trust you and Papa."

It was a heartwarming thing to hear that their son had faith in them.

Maybe Dujun Hyung and I are doing okay as parents.

"Dr. Seong, it’s normal for children manifesting their Secondary Gender to experience running a high fever," Wonyoung said carefully. "Can we expect the same thing to happen to our son, despite him awakening earlier than normal? Or should we expect worse?"

Now that they had confirmed that Yun Yuhyun was about to manifest,

"The children I handled who manifested early showed normal syndromes of manifestation," Dr. Seong Kyungmin said, then he paused for a moment. "Oh, but those kids had a sensitive sense of smell before they awakened. One of them would even get an irritated nose as if getting an allergic reaction towards pheromones. So, his father got him a nasal spray made specifically for children like his child."

"It seems like our Yuhyun is starting to develop a sensitive nose, too," Wonyoung said worriedly. "Can you prescribe us the same nasal spray as the child you’re talking about, Doc?"

"Yes, but the nasal spray I’m talking about is rare. We need to order it overseas, and only doctors like me can do it for now," Dr. Seong Kyungmin said. "So, expect it to be very expensive."

"Hyung, you know money will never be an issue for me— especially if it’s for my son," Yun Dujun said. "Please place an order for us."

Dr. Seong Kyungmin nodded. "Alright, I will."

"ARE YOU not going to tell Wonyoung-ssi that your son might manifest as a Hyper-Dominant Alpha?"

Yun Dujun shook his head at Dr. Seong Kyungmin’s question.

Right now, only the two of them were left in the office.

He had let Bae Wonyoung and Yun Yuhyun leave first and just wait in the car while he was making payment.

But, of course, that was just an excuse.

He just needed time to talk to the doctor in private.

"Bae Wonyoung is already worried that our son is going to manifest as an Alpha soon. If he finds out that there’s a possibility that our son might become a Hyper-Dominant Alpha in the future, I’m sure he’ll only grow paranoid," Yun Dujun explained. "Plus, I still don’t believe in the existence of Hyper-Dominant Alphas. It’s not that I don’t trust you, Hyung. But I refuse to believe that a class higher than Dominant Alphas exist."

"I understand, and I won’t force you to accept the truth," Dr. Seong Kyungmin said. "But let me know immediately once Yuhyun starts manifesting."

AN BAEKYA smiled and waved when he saw Bae Wonyoung, Yun Dujun, and Yun Yuhyun waiting for him in the lounge area of Coach Kwon Taeyoo’s office.

He didn’t expect that the three would come and pick him up, but he wasn’t complaining.

I’m starting to get used to this family.

"Wonyoung-ssi, Dujun-ah, I’ve already registered An Baekya to the audition," Coach Kwon Taeyoo said to his foster parents. "We’ve also received the official audition script. Would you like to see it?"

Bae Wonyoung and Yun Dujun nodded and answered at the same time, respectively.

What’s wrong with this brat now?

"What?" An Baekya complained when he started feeling uncomfortable. "I was just teasing you."

"You smell weird."

"Huh?"

Much to An Baekya’s shock, Yun Yuhyun suddenly grabbed him by the collar.

But, before he could even complain, the future Alpha suddenly buried his face against his neck— sniffing him like a dog.

What the fuck?

"You smell sweet, An Baekya," Yun Yuhyun said before letting go of An Baekya, but the kid didn’t take his eyes off him. "Like my favorite chocolate."

An Baekya froze when he heard that.

Like his favorite chocolate?

Yes, that phrase sounded normal.

Except he wasn’t wearing a cologne that smelled like chocolate at the moment.

Moreover...

That was how the older Yun Yuhyun used to describe my scent— like his favorite chocolate.

An Baekya felt a shiver down his spine.

No, it can’t be— it’s too early for Yun Yuhyun to manifest as an Alpha.
