I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 183: The Final Station
"I’m sure your family has bigger problems to worry about, than coming after me." Leo casually smiled, as he finally stood up from the chair.
He walked closer to the old man, pulled a chair closer and sat facing him.
He asked, "Do you want to be reunited with your family?"
The old man didn’t answer, but even with his silence, Leo knew the answer. Who would want to stay in captivity when they had a choice to be reunited with their family?
"I have no need for you anymore. I have already taken everything that I wanted. So I can definitely return you to your family. But why should I? What can you give me that would make me want to reconsider?"
Hearing Leo’s words, the old man’s gaze narrowed. Didn’t this person already rob him dry? He had nothing that he could give to this person, except...
As he thought up to this point, his eyes became more fierce.
"You want the key!" He exclaimed in a hoarse voice.
There was only one thing he had which others couldn’t snatch from him. It was the key to the secret realm.
Even though that place had already been emptied, it was still a valuable miracle of nature. And the key was connected to him. Unless he handed over the control, no one else could control the key.
"You really think I am a fool? If I hand you the key, I will really have no value left. This is probably the only reason you kept me alive."
"If you give me the key, I promise that I will reunite you with your family," Leo insisted.
The old man scoffed, "Do you really think I will believe your words after you lied to me so many times?"
"It would have to be a cold day in snow before I believe you!" The old man clenched his fist. If his hands weren’t tied, he would’ve already punched Leo’s face. "I am already old. The treasury is already robbed. Even if you kill me, I will not give you the key!’
Leo expected the man to be stubborn, but not to this extent. It was as if the man had already lost all fear of death.
Still, Leo didn’t frown. He only smiled, as he stood up and walked away.
Only his words were left behind. "One month... Within one month, you will hand over the key to me."
"Let alone a month, even if you tortured me for centuries, I won’t give you the control of this key!"
"Oh, don’t worry. There won’t be any torture. After all, you are our guest." Leo took the copilot seat.
The ship had finally left the asteroid belt, with the exit being so densely packed that without Ulen’s support, it was almost impossible to get out of this place.
Fortunately, now that they were out, Ulen was free to return to the ship. Yang also arrived, his hair appearing white as they were covered in ice.
....
The unstable ship kept flying through the empty space. Now that it was out of the asteroid belt, it could fly freely, as long as it didn’t go beyond a certain speed and stress the core.
For the next few days, the ship traveled without stopping. Along the way, there were many intergalactic hubs where ships could stop for repair, and relaxation.
The Branch Manager asked Leo, if they could stop, to have some people check on the engines. They also needed to gather some information as to what was happening in their space sector, regarding the kidnapping.
It was especially the case since Leo still didn’t allow him to turn on his communicator, even though they were outside the space sector, as if worried about being tracked.
"Don’t worry. Just cross this space sector. We will stop in the next one. After that point, we should be free," Leo said, looking at the space sector map.
This space sector was right next to their space sector, however the planets here were much older than the ones in their space sector. This place was also more powerful overall.
Still, this wasn’t the reason that Leo didn’t want to stop here. The only reason he didn’t want to stop here was because it was too close for comfort.
Following his instructions, the ship kept traveling through the space sector.
In the middle, there were a few checkpoints, where the ship was stopped, and a check was conducted, clearly to find the Lionel Family Patriarch.
Fortunately, those that were searching for him, couldn’t find him. All they found were three men, drunk beyond their means, and passed out on the chair.
One of the men looked old, and had a moustache on his face. However, he looked different from the Patriarch of the Lionel Family that they had seen in the pictures.
"Sorry, officer. It’s just that our Lords have a habit of drinking. If you want, we can wait here until they wake up?" Leo asked the officers that had entered the ship to search.
"There’s no need for that. It’s just a casual search." The officers left the ship after a brief search, which was so casual that it didn’t even look like they were serious about search.
It looked more like a formality, that they had to perform even though they didn’t care about it.
Leo managed to get past quite a few of such searches, all with the excuse that the guests in the ship were drunk, even though the Lionel Family Patriarch was made to pass out before the searches.
Through the subtle tricks, Leo had managed to successfully smuggle a kidnapped person outside another space sector, reaching one that didn’t share any border with theirs. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Now that he was here, the search was even more lax, to the point that they didn’t even stop ships, and only looked for ships that had the Galactic Union Symbol.
Finally, Leo allowed the ship to be docked at an intergalactic hub. After stepping out of the ship, he even allowed everyone to turn on their communicators.
"Is there a reason that you waited for this specific station?" On the way out, the Branch Manager asked Leo, who only smiled as he pointed to his left.
