I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 182: To the Street
The Branch Family members that had gathered for the banquet, immediately left the Main Estate, returning to their homes to salvage what they could, getting out of this sinking ship.
"It’s a lie! Our treasury wasn’t robbed. Please give us some time. Once we save the Patriarch, we will open the treasury and prove it to everyone!"
The youngest son of the family was meeting with the Lords that had arrived to recover their items.
"Do you think we are fools? We can’t trust a single word that comes from you! But still, considering the long relationship we had with your family, we will give you one week! Prove that our items hadn’t been robbed, or take responsibility!"
The lords stepped out, slamming the door shut in anger on their way out.
As soon as the door closed, the youngest son of the Lionel Family clicked his tongue.
"These bastards! When Grandfather was alive, they didn’t even dare raise their voice. All of them were begging, keeping their heads down when they needed money! And now they dare threaten us!’
The young man slammed his hand on the table, turning to a young woman who was standing next to the window.
"It’s all because of you! Someone had been impersonating the Union, and you didn’t even know? We invited you to catch the culprit! If you had caught him in time, this wouldn’t have happened! Galactic Union, my ass!"
He tossed the glass, but even though he was angry, he avoided the woman. The glass slammed far away from the woman, shattering into thousands of pieces.
The woman, who was the leader of the Union’s Investigation Team, didn’t react. She simply kept staring out the window.
She was as upset as the Lionel Family. Even though she hadn’t lost any money, she had lost almost all her credibility as well.
It was clear that the person who kidnapped the Lionel Family Patriarch was related to the explosions. It was supposed to be her case to solve, yet she didn’t expect something like this to happen.
Even worse was that the person used the Galactic Union’s identity, as if mocking them. This was a red line that shouldn’t have been crossed.
Unfortunately, she had failed to catch the people. If only she had arrived a few hours earlier that day, all of this could’ve been avoided.
Right away, she had ordered a blockade around the space sector. Almost all the ships were being checked, yet they still hadn’t found the target, as if the target had simply disappeared into thin air.
"Please tell me you at least have a suspect in mind?! No matter what, we must find that bastard! Or our entire family will be brought to the street!" the young man exclaimed.
"We did have a potential suspect in mind," the Investigation Lead sighed, as she pulled up an image on her communication. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
A hologram materialized before the young man, showing an image.
"This is the person we suspect to be behind the explosions. This time, I had arrived to ask your family about this person. Do you recognise him?"
"Hmm? Isn’t this the bastard who has been in the news all over the world? He started a rival bank, and even ran away from custody?" The young man frowned, recognizing all the surface level news.
"Did your family have any enmity with him before these serial explosions began?"
"Hmm? Why would we have an enmity with a human from a small planet? That was before he had even started a bank, so we didn’t even have a reason. Do you really believe this is the person?"
’I’m not sure. I would’ve loved to bring him in to investigate, but he has also been missing."
"What about his brother? Bring that bastard in, and ask him!"
"His younger brother... We did send a few people to arrest him for interrogation. I should have the answer soon."
....
Meanwhile, at the end of the asteroid field, a ship was still flying through comfortably.
However, the ship looked to be different. It didn’t have the paint of the Galactic Union. It didn’t have any symbol, as if a false layer of covering had been removed.
To make the ship’s exterior even more distinct, Leo had also taken the help of Yang.
All they had to do was to take a break for a few hours on one of the larger asteroids.
It was also enough time for the Lionel Family Head to wake up.
The transition from complete paralysis to ’pins and needles’ was rarely a graceful one. For the Lionel Patriarch, it felt like ten thousand ants were holding a party under his skin.
His eyelids fluttered, heavy as lead doors. As his vision blurred into focus, the first thing he saw was Leo’s figure.
He tried to roar. He tried to summon his strength that had made him a feared man in the sector. Instead, he let out a sound that resembled a wet balloon losing air.
"Oh, look who’s joining the land of the living!" Leo smiled, not even turning around from the co-pilot’s seat. "How was the nap? I’d ask if you had any dreams, but judging by the reaction, you probably only had nightmares."
The Patriarch straightened his back, or tried to. He suddenly realized several things in rapid succession:
He was sitting in a very uncomfortable folding chair. His wrists were bound behind him with high strength cables. His ankles were looped to the chair legs with enough duct tape to seal a hull breach.
There was something very itchy right between his eyebrows.
"Mmmph! Mmm-ga-bastard!" the old man managed to choke out. His vocal cords were still a bit sluggish, making him sound like he’d swallowed a handful of gravel.
"Easy there, big guy. Don’t strain yourself," Leo said, finally spinning the chair around. He was holding a small, glowing crystal, a part of the Lionel Family’s collection.
"The ’poison’ is still working its way out. You might experience some mild symptoms like irritability, loss of treasury, and an overwhelming urge to cry."
The Patriarch’s eyes bulged. He struggled against the restraints, the chair rattling against the metal deck.
"You... you dare rob me!" he exclaimed, his voice finally gaining some traction. "The Union will hunt you to the ends of the galaxy! My family... They’ll come for me!"
