Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Eye of the Demon

Looking at the flashy gear shining on their bodies, George could tell—these were all high-level players from the Azure League.

"So, you’re George, huh?" a tall, slim man holding a bow said slowly, his voice smooth and cold.

George shot him a glare and replied in a hard tone, "The so-called top Guild of the North... and this is how low you stoop?"

He was, of course, referring to how the Azure League had kidnapped Origi just to lure him out.

"This is what we live for," the archer said. "There’s no room for mercy or pity in this game."

He raised his bow, the arrow tip glowing faintly red, aimed right at George.

"George, surrender now," a seductive woman called out softly. "You can have the same status as us."

"Join us," another player added. "Together, we’ll rule this world."

"And what about them?" George pointed at the broken players lying below—those who had been robbed and crushed by the Azure League.

"Guess that means we’re done talking," the archer sighed, the blood-red light on his arrow growing brighter.

"Origi, rest for now," George said as he gently set him down, then spread his Holy Light Wings and rose into the air.

Seeing how smoothly George flew, a flicker of jealousy crossed the archer’s face.

Even their guild master didn’t have a flying artifact—yet George did.

"Kill him! We’ll split his gear and loot!" the archer shouted, his voice twisting with envy.

The others needed no more encouragement. One by one, they activated their skills, raining attacks down on George.

George let out a cold laugh and instantly activated both Deep Sea Shield and Holy Light Shield.

In a flash, a deep-blue barrier and a golden one formed around him, wrapping him tightly in light.

The storm of attacks slammed into his shields, only to be absorbed—over ninety percent of the damage erased on impact.

The rest barely scratched him.

When the first wave ended and George’s HP hadn’t even dropped, the Azure League players froze in disbelief.

Usually, when they ganged up on high-level solo players like George, they could wipe them out in seconds.

But this time, the man standing before them—George—was clearly nothing like anyone they’d ever fought before.

"Again!" the smooth-voiced man shouted in anger, raising his bow and firing three arrows in a row.

It was his skill, Triple Shot—each arrow carrying a special buff.

With every shot, the speed and power increased by twenty percent.

But facing that kind of insane barrage, George instantly activated Phantom Shadows, turning his body into a ghostly form.

In the blink of an eye, the three arrows passed straight through him without dealing any damage.

Instead, they struck an Azure League player behind him, cutting the man’s HP by twenty percent.

"Eli! What the hell are you doing?" the player shouted, furious at losing a fifth of his health for no reason.

They had all fought tooth and nail to reach the top—none of them wanted to die because of friendly fire.

Eli gritted his teeth and pointed at George. "Kill him! I’ll make it worth your while!"

Then he started chanting, his voice low and sharp.

That’s when George realized—Eli wasn’t a normal archer at all, but a special-class player: a Winged Demon.

Almost immediately, George felt the air tighten around him, a powerful restriction pressing in.

The rest of the Azure League players didn’t hold back either—they all unleashed their skills at once.

In seconds, countless debuffs stacked onto George.

Phantom Shadows could block physical damage, but it couldn’t stop skills that directly applied debuffs.

"Damn it... guess I’ve got no choice," George muttered, pulling out the Divine Bone and Holy Crystal with a pained look.

Then he triggered Divine Transformation!

The skill wiped away all debuffs and made him immune for nine seconds.

That meant he had nine seconds to strike back!

Without wasting a moment, George summoned the Holy Light Divine Sword, gripping it in one hand and his hammer in the other.

"Die—all of you!" he roared. The Dwarven King’s Iron Hammer burst with energy, releasing streams of silver ice dragons and red fire dragons.

As the frost and flames intertwined, half of the Azure League players were hit with Frostbite or Burn debuffs.

The rest managed to block the effects with resistance gear and defensive items.

But even so, it was more than enough for George to launch his counterattack.

He swung the divine sword, sending waves of blinding sword-light slashing across the battlefield.

The players couldn’t dodge in time—each one took heavy damage as their HP bars began to drop fast.

"You’re dead!" Eli roared, watching his HP drop. He felt humiliated beyond reason.

Fury burned in his eyes as he began chanting, his voice rising with madness.

In an instant, the sky changed.

The once-blue heavens turned blood red, and high above, a single eye—bleeding tears—slowly opened.

"Eli, are you insane? The guild master said that skill is forbidden!"

The others shouted angrily when they saw what Eli had done.

"I know," Eli growled, his tone cold and certain. "But to kill him—it’s worth it."

His eyes locked on George, burning with hatred.

George looked up at the bloody eye and felt a twinge of unease.

To be safe, he pulled out the Divine-Demonic Blood Essence and activated his transformation.

His body shifted rapidly, empowered by Speed Boost, until he became a massive, spike-covered demon with a fierce, twisted face.

The moment he transformed, George felt a strange connection—resonance—with the eye above.

And to his shock, he realized that the thing in the sky was the Eye of an Ancient Demon.

Judging by its aura, that demon’s bloodline was at least A-rank!

"This is insane!" George cursed under his breath, his voice filled with anger.

Using a body part from an A-rank demon was dangerous—it could easily spiral out of control.

And sure enough, what you fear most tends to happen.

Eli, who had been gloating moments ago, ready to unleash the Eye of the Demon, suddenly froze. His face went pale, and his body began to tremble.

Still, he forced himself to stay focused, taking deep breaths.

But as the eye above him kept growing larger, Eli’s face turned ghost white. Soon, blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

The other players noticed something was wrong. "Eli... what’s happening to you?"

"I—I don’t know!" Eli stammered, his voice shaking. "I can’t control it!"

"Damn it—it’s bloodline backlash!" one of the more experienced players shouted, panic flashing in his eyes.

"What’s demon backlash?" George asked, along with everyone else staring at him.

The man took a deep breath and explained, "The organs of an Ancient Demon can be used, but the bloodline power inside is wild and hard to control. If it’s overused, it causes bloodline backlash... and in the end—it can awaken the Ancient Demon itself!"

The moment he finished, the faces of every Azure League player turned pale with fear.

Because if an A-rank demon truly awakened...

None of them would survive it.

If their guild master were here in person, maybe they could hold it off for a while.

But right now, their leader was thousands of miles away—there was no chance he could make it in time.

"Retreat! Move, now!" one player shouted to the others.

"What about the Ancient Demon?" another asked, pointing at the blood-red eye in the sky.

"Idiot! Who cares about that right now? Let’s just get the hell out of here!" another snapped.

His words hung in the air, and for a rare moment, everyone went silent.

They all understood what he meant...

Once the Ancient Demon appeared, it would go on a rampage. The entire city would likely be wiped out.

Most players here didn’t have the ability to travel far or fast.

The only ones who could truly escape were the high-level players—like them.

George heard their words and spoke coldly, "You’re the ones who unleashed the Ancient Demon. And now you want to run?"

"Not your problem! If you want to die, go ahead!" Eli shouted back, already feeling better with two players helping him stand. He pointed at George, face twisted with anger.

"Move! If we don’t leave now, it’ll be too late!" Eli cursed George again, then barked the order at the others.

The Azure League players exchanged glances, gritted their teeth, and used every skill they had to flee at full speed.

"George! See you around—if you’re still alive!" Eli said mockingly as he turned to leave, giving George one last look of disdain.

In his heart, he didn’t think he’d done anything wrong. He didn’t care about the other players in the city either.

Meanwhile, inside the city, countless players had overheard their conversation.

They looked up at the giant, blood-red eye growing more vivid and alive in the sky, and despair filled their faces.

Everything they had worked for—their gear, their items, their levels—was about to be destroyed.

Some players with weaker nerves even collapsed to the ground, sobbing helplessly.

A heavy, hopeless silence spread through the entire city.

"George!" Origi called out weakly, his voice trembling. "You have to go! It’s too late already!"

George looked at him—his eyes calm, yet firm and unshakable.

He took a deep breath and lifted his gaze to the Eye of the Demon above. The massive eye glared down at him, as if warning him to run.

"Everyone!"

George looked down at the countless players below and shouted, his voice echoing through the air:

"I, George, will stay!"
