Infinite Skin System: Starting as An Eldritch Knight-Chapter 50: Concoction Brewing
"Hmmm. I got 3 pounds, 1 shilling, and a few pennies left. That shopping didn’t cost me that much."
Carter returned to the Desilet’s estate.
When he entered the house, Charles and Peter were drinking tea and eating biscuits in the living room.
"Dr. Hugo! Peter came to wake you earlier but you didn’t respond. We thought you were still asleep." Charles said.
"I have to go visit the market early to find ingredients."
Charles’s eyes lit up in joy. "You found a cure?"
"Possibly." Carter nodded.
He set the heavy Brewer’s Chest down on the ground along with his Medical Bag.
"Enjoy your tea, Dr. Hugo."
Peter poured a cup of tea for him.
"Thank you, Peter."
Carter was thirsty from all those walking. He took a big gulp down.
"So?" Charles leaned over. "What did you learn?"
"Do you know about Negative Energy, Mr. Desilet?"
Charles’s eyes widened suddenly. He and Peter shared a glance.
"I’m assuming both of you do?" Carter said.
They nodded.
"Negative Energy. Many scientists have theorised that it is the core reason for the Black Blood Pandemic. Some even say it is the power of the demons.
As a man of science, I, of course, don’t believe in superstition." Charles said.
"As you can see, I’m not really from around here." Peter said. "I came from the Lono Tribe across the sea. Charles saved my life once. And I became his butler to repay him."
"Please, Peter. You’re my friend. You saved my life after that too." Charles said.
Peter smiled. "That’s true. But a debt for a life needs an entire life to repay. That is the Lono Way."
Peter turned back to Carter, "Our tribe has a different view from the scientists. We think that Negative Energy is essential to all things. If there is bad, there must be good.
If there is Negative Energy, there must also exist a Positive Energy. The balance of these two creates life. But an imbalance, especially toward the negative, will create a very ugly sight."
Carter nodded approvingly after hearing both of them.
"In my honest opinion, both of you are right."
"What?" Charles and Peter frowned.
"Negative Energy is everywhere and in every living thing. I agree with that. But it is also the power of demons. That is also correct."
Carter’s face went pale. His Acting and Performance Skill allowed him to make any scene believable.
"I saw demons that I wish I could forget. But that isn’t what is important.
The important thing is Miss Fontaine. I found a huge amount of conscious Negative Energy inside her blood. This thing multiplies very quickly. We can’t replace her blood.
We can only purify it."
"With an antidote?" Charles said.
Carter nodded, "I need three things. Powder made from the White Seam Plant. Seeds of Blood Sausage Fruit. And Holy Water.
Not those waters the church used to gather more followers. But actual Holy Water that is imbued with a great amount of Positive Energy.
I have found a White Seam Plant. I still need the Blood Sausage Fruit and Holy Water."
Charles stood up and walked back and forth inside the living room.
"I have an explorer friend. He has connections regarding exotic trades. If there is such a thing as a Blood Sausage Fruit, he will know." Charles said.
"I can ask the Priest if there is proper Holy Water that we can buy." Peter said.
"Perfect. Miss Amelia should be here soon. Me and her will try our best to take care of Miss Fontaine. But she does not have a lot of time."
"If time is of the essence, then I will leave now."
Charles grabbed his coat and bolted out of the house.
"I’ll go to church as well. I won’t be able to prepare breakfast for you." Peter said.
"Don’t worry, I already had breakfast. Go."
Peter nodded and left with Charles.
"Well then. I got all the house for myself. Better prepare some useful potions while waiting for Amelia."
Carter returned to his room and dropped his Brewer’s Chest down. He checked the current ingredients he had gathered.
[Brewer’s Chest]: x3 Cursed Blood; x5 Corrupted Blood; x1 Extracted Corruption; x15 Grave Kiss Fruit; x50 Monkey Finger Peas; x10 Pale Star Fruit; x5 Croconut; x1 Sapphire Bean; x1 White Seam Plant.
He also had a few other basic ingredients that the Brewer’s Chest already stored in the beginning.
’I need to analyze Extracted Corruption. It will take time. Best to leave it for later.
Grave Kiss Fruit can be made into Basic Antidote.
Monkey Finger Peas are great for disinfecting the wound and eliminating diseases. I have some beeswax I can combine it with and make Healing Salve. Then I can make the rest into an Antibiotic Potion.
Pale Star Fruit can quicken the healing process of wounds. I don’t have enough ingredients to make a Healing Potion though. I will keep it there for now.
Croconut can be mixed with some high grade alcohol to make a Durability Elixir. It will harden the skin of the consumer for a while, best used in combat. Maybe I can ask Charles for some of his expensive wine later. I will also keep this one for now.
Sapphire Bean is easiest to use. It is the main ingredient in making Intelligence Enhancing Potion. The effect is temporary however. I can make this potion to sell for money or use it myself.
Lastly, the White Seam Plant. I need to process it into Cloud Powder. The process is going to be long and difficult. Amelia can actually help me with this. I will process it once she’s here.’
Carter wrote into his Brewer’s Notebook what he needed to do and the recipes. Concoction Brewing and other related skills allowed him to know what he needed to do. But he still had to formulate the recipe. It’s better to write everything down.
His shadow stood up from the ground. An apron appeared around its hips.
Carter had summoned his trustworthy assistant for help.
"Let’s get going. First is the Grave Kiss Fruit."
Carter ordered his shadow to crush the small black fruits while he tended to more delicate tasks. Once the shadow was done, Carter juiced it to create the potion.
[Lost x15 Grave Kiss Fruit]
[Acquired x3 Basic Antidote]
Brewer’s Chest had all the equipment he needed so Carter could quickly synthesize the potion.
The Skin System popped up right after he finished the potion.
[Synchronization +10.7%]
[Current Synchronization]: 19.2%
’Synchronization of the Shadow Apothecary went up! As it should be. For a brewer and healer, the most rational way to act was to make potions and heal people.’
Carter moved on to the Monkey Finger Peas.
