Infinite Skin System: Starting as An Eldritch Knight-Chapter 58: The Antidote
"Zeneros killed this monster I presumed?"Charles said.
The Acting and Performance Skills kicked in. Carter’s body trembled in fear and he sweated. Patches of sweat appeared on his shirt.
He shook his head and grunted each word.
"We barely made out of it alive."
Charles widened his eyes.
"We as..."
"Me and Zeneros."
"Nonsense. That man might as well be a god. I never see a human with his strength." Charles dismissed it immediately.
But Carter kept on with his act.
"If there’s God, there must also exist the Devil. And his name is Dracula."
Amelia went to the market early today and bought some soft food for Florence. She pitied the girl with all her heart and wished to save her with Dr. Hugo.
After working with Emmanuel, she understood him more. He was the wisest and most knowledgeable medical practitioner that she had ever met. Even more than her old teachers.
The man was a little bit off and obsess over his craft though. Maybe all men like him are like that.
Peter let her in the door when she came.
"You’re early today, Miss Orchard!"
"I’m worried about Miss Fontaine. I have to get over here early."
Peter smiled gently and he bowed down.
"Dr. Hugo did the right thing to hire you. Please excuse me for my rudeness before."
Amelia caught him, "Please don’t do that, Peter. You’re just doing your job. And I was a little bit arrogant."
She stuck her tongue out and alleviated the situation. Both of them laughed it off.
She also brought some flower over today. The girl was going to Florence’s room when she heard the noise coming out of Charles’s office.
The door wasn’t close entirely and a gap was left open. Amelia didn’t know why but she got closer to listen into their conversation.
"If there’s God, there must also exist the Devil. And his name is Dracula."
Amelia gasped and dropped the flowerpot. The clay pot shattered into pieces.
Charles stood up immediate and rushed to the door.
"Miss Orchard?" Charles said.
Amelia covered her mouth in shock. "Dracula as in... Count Dracula of Transylvania?"
Carter widened his eyes. He looked around then approaches her.
"Where did you hear that name?" Carter whispered.
"I... I met him before."
Carter started to ventilating.
"Where?"
"Here. At Orkshire."
Carter grabbed Amelia’s shoulders so tight she felt pain.
"Dr. Hugo... You’re scaring me."
"Listen to me. That is not a man. That is the devil. A blood thirsting devil that would do anything to quench his desire. Never. And I say NEVER to approach him if you see him."
"I understand, Dr. Hugo. Please let me go."
Carter did as he was told.
"I’m sorry... I was a little panicked."
Charles frowned deeper. His life had slowly become crazier and crazier every day.
The Black Blood struck Anglas. His daughter was killed because of some monster. Her friend was possessed. A weird magical doctor came to his aid. A knight with superhuman power.
And now, the devil was here.
Charles breathed in deeply and calmed himself down.
"I’m sure that Dr. Hugo did everything for a reason. I would take his advice very seriously if I were you, Miss Orchard."
"I know." Amelia nodded.
The short conversation ended as Carter returned to his room. He dangled the canteen with Holy Water in his hand.
It was an idea that came to him while being the Eldritch Knight. He didn’t know if it would work.
Carter took a small sample out and used the equipment inside Brewer’s Chest to test the ingredient.
"Only one way to know."
[Added x1 Holy Water Canteen to Brewer’s Chest]
’Surprisingly, it worked. Now I only need the last ingredient.
The sun went high and Charles had already left for Mr. Orkings.
Amelia took care of Florence again. Peter prepared food for the day.
As for Carter, he took out a particular vial of purple liquid.
It was the Extracted Corruption that he found in the Infirmary.
’That woman... Primrose. I wonder what her business with this thing is.’
Carter took a small sample out and analyzed the purple liquid.
He found active pathogens inside the liquid. Very aggressive and invading pathogens.
When he put some animal tissue on it, the pathogens invaded the cells and turned it gray. All living functions of the tissue were halted immediately.
’Wait a minute. This thing is...’
Black Blood was corruption. Undead was corruption.
Logically speaking, Extracted Corruption was pure corruption taken out of host. And that exactly what this liquid was. Concentrated, pure corruption that could immediately transform what it touch to the dying.
’Dracula can drink this. But does he need it?
The answer was obvious. No, he doesn’t. Dracula can extract corruption via drinking blood. He would mutate one way of another. This thing, however, could be used as an ingredient...’
Carter suddenly had an idea. Extracted Corruption was pure corruption. It’s the perfect specimen to create a cure to the Black Blood. Otherwise, he could create the most toxic corrupting liquid ever and make whatever drink it to become the strongest Undead.
Not as strong as the Eldritch Knight or Dracula, obviously. But still, it would be much stronger than these Undead.
"I’ve returned." Charles’s voice echoed in the house.
Carter had to halt his experiment and went out to meet Charles.
"You got it?" Carter said.
"Is this what you need?" Charles show him the plant.
A red thorny plant with elongated body.
Carter carefully took it out of Charles’s hand. "This is it... Stay here. The antidote will be ready soon."
Carter went into his room and slammed the door tight.
Charles didn’t go in. He knew better than to disturb a professional. The wealthy old man walked back and forth in front of Carter’s room.
Peter came with two cups of tea.
"Some tea, sir?"
"Thank you, my friend."
The two grown men stayed outside the door, feet tapping like impatient teenagers. Amelia joined them eventually.
"He will do it, sir. He will succeed." Peter said.
Charles nodded. But there was visible doubt in his eyes. People got more anxious the closer it was to the end.
Alas, Carter opened the door. He pushed a glass vial into Charles’s hands.
"Go save your daughter." He said.
