Looking at it, Li Ling couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. He had feared that the growth curve in terms of Slaughter Point cost for the One Line Chaos Art would be multiplicative, meaning that it would go from its initial cost of 5000 to 10,000, then to 15,000 and so on.

However, he realized that his thinking was a bit out of place. Indeed, it was a mighty ’Chaos-tier’ art, but it was one of many such techniques out in circulation, where its biggest task was giving him the Five Elements Heavenly Spirit Roots at the start, which was why the Infinite Slaughter System even priced it so heavily.

To expect it to cost so much for minor realm breakthroughs at the third level was ridiculous. In that case, if it cost around 50,000 Slaughter Points to reach Core Formation Perfection from level 9, then would Li Ling be able to start soloing Soul Formation cultivators?

The answer was no. Even that idiot Deng Long whom he one-shotted had nothing to do with his cultivation realm or any of his Daoist Arts.

In truth, he had used his first rule, the Rule of Mountain Earth!

However, not wanting anyone to recognize his usage of the rule, Li Ling had taken out the token that Zhen Xueren had given him which contained her signature and some of her power.

Using the disguise of her Seventh Realm aura, he had fired a shot of energy containing a fraction of the Rule Power, which had immediately drained his entire store of Dharma Power.

And the results had been quite exemplary, allowing him to actually fatally wound a fourth-realm body cultivator until he was near death.

Li Ling was surprised by his three rules, though. The first was gained from his repeated use of the Meteor Spell so far, which allowed him to comprehend a rule related to the crushing weight of a mountain falling upon the land.

Its power even surpassed the fabled ’Mount Sumeru’s Descent’, or even the famous ’Five Fingers Mountain Suppression’ used by Tathagata Buddha.

Rules were not meant to be fired like beams in the crass manner that Li Ling did, which was why Deng Long could even survive. A rule was meant to be attached to another attack, usually an attack of the same type, in order to raise its power exponentially.

If Li Ling attached the Rule of Mountain Earth to the Meteor Spell, he was certain that if he dropped it on the head of the Boundless Joy or Qing Shan Sect, he could flatten them!

Well, as long as he had enough power, that is. Even just firing it as a thin and loose beam bottomed him out, so dual-casting the Meteor and the Rule would likely leave him a desiccated husk, akin to a male cultivator caught by a yang-sucking demoness.

His second Rule was that of Spiritual Void, something definitely linked to his Void Seeking Physique. It seemed he had underestimated the power of the ’third-ranked physique’ in the entire Firmament Heaven; there was a reason for its ranking.

However, one should know that each level of the Tai Xu Mysterious Method had a steeper requirement for either physique or spatial talent, and Li Ling had only mastered the second level of five!

So what would happen if he mastered the rest of the stages?

Well, he would be finding out soon.

His third rule was not something unexpected and could be said to be natural. As the owner of the Infinite Slaughter System, Li Ling would not believe that the system didn’t have a hand in the inscription of this particular rule!

Not only that, but it was the strongest of the three, directly requiring ten times as many Slaughter Points to advance, and also the reason why the Dao had sighed in lament.

It wasn’t because it wanted to inscribe more, but because it had never expected to inscribe something of such high quality!

It was akin to an artist who made art that they only felt was passing, suddenly drawing a masterpiece. That sigh of satisfaction for achieving perfection, and lament because it would never be yours, was complex!

Li Ling admired his three rules for a bit before refocusing on the task at hand, to perfect his cultivation. Unfortunately, unlike with the Foundation Establishment phase where he could cultivate Mind Power to enhance Spirit Sense upon breakthrough, Dharma Sense did not work the same way.

It was already a fusion of spirit sense and Li Ling’s entire essence of cultivation, so it could not be ’mixed’ again, mostly because Mind Power was too low quality.

Not to mention that even if he could, he wouldn’t. He was already suffering from the problem of having disjointed Dharma Sense, with one being refined but short and the other loose but wide.

He hoped that after perfecting his cultivation, he could limit break the Nine Heights Pagoda and solve this problem; otherwise, he would have to look to other sources and means to rectify this issue.

For now, he paid 6000 Slaughter Points to advance his cultivation to the second level of Core Formation, and the change was near immediate.

This time, there was no fanfare or vortex because his core had already reached the maximum speed possible in cultivation.

Any faster, and it would either explode or crumble to pieces, meaning that Li Ling would either die or be crippled.

The energy needed to advance his realm came from an unknown void as usual, and his core, which was the size of a tiny marble, expanded to twice its diameter, filling with Dharma Power rapidly.

On top of that, Li Ling’s Dharma Sense range increased by 100 meters, meaning it was now 1158 meters. This upgrade only affected his loose spirit sense, as that was attached to his cultivation realm.

The refined spirit sense was solely tied to, and produced by, the Nine Heights Pagoda that occupied the center of his Sea of Consciousness.

Breathing out, Li Ling felt the power increase and enjoyed it, but it had only just begun!

Another payment of 7000 Slaughter Points, and his realm advanced again in a similar, silent manner!

His core increased in size to double its previous diameter, as the mist-like Dharma Power within thickened further to fill the entire core to the brim.

Li Ling’s loose Dharma Sense increased by 200 meters this time, reaching 1358 meters in total!

His gaze focused, as the next stage was going to be a decisive one. After all, every fourth, seventh, and tenth sub-realm in the first three was a minor bottleneck.

That was only because the essence of cultivation hadn’t changed. In the Ancient Era, when it was Qi Gathering, Foundation Building, and Golden Core, it was split into early, mid, and late realms, which was simply ’extended’ and ’simplified’ by the new ten sub-realm spread.

So Li Ling was about to enter the ’mid’ stage of Core Formation, and that signified a big change.

He paid the 8000 Slaughter Point cost and immediately felt his core, which was almost transparent when viewed through introspection and was full of misty Dharma Power, suddenly expand crazily until it was about to crack, then suddenly compress downward as if it were about to be crushed into pieces.

This kind of painful procedure was operated by one’s Dharma Sense, and it would repeat over and over again, until the transparent core became translucent, returning to the initial size of a marble that one started with.

The moment this occurred, the mist-like Dharma Sense, which had gone through the repeated squeezing with the core, changed into a liquid-like state, sloshing about within the still-spinning core like stormy waves at sea!
