Chapter 271: Limitation

"Okay." The clone responded without asking questions, as it took the phone, before it began reading.

Michael waited on the side silently, feeling a little nervous. If this could work, it would save him a lot of time. If not, he would have to think of another way.

As he waited, just a few seconds later, what he was anticipating happened.

[Intermediate level physiotherapy skills. Progress: 73%]

Looking at the progress bar that had appeared on the screen in front of him, Michael felt thrilled. Even though he had thought there was a possibility that it could work, the moment that it did, he was so much excited.

Recently, as he continuously acquired more skills, it became easier for him to be able to acquire the other skills. After all, in some ways, some skills shared the same knowledge, though they majored in different areas.

Michael believed that it would not be long before, he would only be required to just read for about an hour or less, before he could push a skill to the expert level.

"Okay, you can focus on that. On that phone, there are several documents, just go through all of them according to your capability." Calming down, Michael instructed.

The clone nodded in response, as it continued reading. Just like himself, the clone was not reading to understand, but was just reading the words in that document.

This was the advantage of the system. Otherwise, if he needed to master everything that he had read, it would have taken a lot more time for him to be able to master even a single skill.

Michael initially wanted to create another clone, but in his mind, a piece of information appeared. He could only create a single clone a day.

This implied, he would have to wait until the following day, before he could create yet another clone. This was a disadvantage that he did not like, but he did not care that much about it anyway.

The clone could last for an entire week. At the end of the week, he would have at least 6 clones, and by the end of the second week, he would have 12.

By that time, thinking about gaining 12 skills at the expert level every few hours, it was thrilling.

As Michael shifted his attention from the issue concerning the limitation of the clone, he decided to focus on another issue. That was, what next ability should he go for?

He thought, at the moment, he really wanted a skill that could allow him to be able to communicate with others, in a situation where he could not make a call.

So, he decided that next, he was going with advanced telepathy.

Without hesitation, accessing the system store once again, he did the filtering, before he found the ability. Then, he decided to make the purchase.

Just like before, 88 SP was consumed, and in his hand, there appeared another test tube. The content of the liquid was the same as the previous one, no difference at all.

If not for the fact that this item came from the system, Michael might have thought that he was scammed, and was given the same serum as the one that he had purchased before.

Shaking his head, deciding not to think much about it, Michael decided to take the serum.

But just as he was about to do so, he suddenly received a notification from the system that made him freeze.

[Please note, with the current physique of the host, while it can handle multiple abilities, they cannot be gained at the same time. The host still needs to give the body the time to adapt to the new ability first, before trying to gain another.

If the host forces his body to adapt to multiple abilities at the same time, the body would be overwhelmed, and there would be serious consequences.]

"Seriously? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?" Michael was so infuriated that if the system was physical, he would have smashed it with the test tube that he was holding in his hand.

If the system had given him this warning earlier, he would have selected a better ability. While earning SP was incredible, at the moment, it was not much of a problem for Michael when it came to the SP.

"Are you talking to me?" The clone, who had returned to the bedroom together with Michael, currently seated on the bed, asked.

"No, don’t worry about me. Unless I call out to you, you can just ignore whatever I say." Michael shook his head as he responded.

"Okay." The clone responded before it continued reading.

On the other hand, Michael was still fuming. Still, he decided to ask, "How long will I have to wait?"

[This mainly depends on the physique of the host, and its ability to adapt. So, it can take quite a while, and the minimum estimation is one week, though this time can be extended depending on the situation.]

Michael took a deep breath, having nothing to say. At this point, he could only wait until a week later, or maybe longer, so that he could get the next ability.

Regardless, despite his disappointment, he was still happy. After all, he could still continuously gain abilities later on. At least, there was no any limitation, preventing him from gaining more.

While he could not gain many at the same time, it was much better than those that could only have a single ability in their entire lives.

Now that this matter was out of the way, Michael thought about something else. That was, communicating with Kate.

Coincidence or not, just as Michael thought about this, his phone began ringing. The clone immediately handed it over, and looking at the caller ID, he realized that it was Kate.

This made Michael raise his brows slightly. At the same time, the information regarding NEXUS flashed through his mind.

From what he understood, it seemed that during the next month, the new recruits would be engaging in a combat assessment.

It would only be after then that they would begin the other training sessions, and from time to time, they might be involved in less dangerous missions.

It was just that, within the information, the break time, when the recruits are allowed to contact other people, it was not listed in the information. Basically, it depended on who was in charge of the training.

Without hesitation, Michael received the call, "Hey, I was just thinking about you, and then you called."

"Huh? Don’t tell me, have you already thought it through? Have you agreed to be my boyfriend?" Kate’s voice, at first puzzled, but then later filled with anticipation, came through the phone’s earpiece.

Michael was left momentarily speechless, as he wondered, what was this lady always thinking about?

"I had something that I wanted to ask you. It is very important, concerning NEXUS." Michael swiftly changed the topic, without giving a response.

Kate did not seem to mind, as she followed, "Go ahead, what is it?"

"If you are given a chance, to have a superpower, what would you like? Imagine a situation where this world has superheroes like those in science fiction movies, what would be the best superpower that you would wish to have?" Michael asked.

"Huh?" Kate was left confused by Michael’s question. She could not understand how this was related to NEXUS.

From the information that Michael had provided previously, it was clear that NEXUS dealt with gangsters, mercenaries, rescuing hostages, or dealing with very dangerous fugitives.

So, why was it that Michael was mentioning about superpowers? Could it be that NEXUS was hiding something else?

As she thought about it, she realized that Michael would not ask her just to make fun of her. So, she decided, she had to think carefully about this.

Even though Michael had not clarified why he was asking this, it seemed to be important, judging from his tone.

So, she was silent for quite a while, thinking through every option and every superpower that she has ever heard of or thought about. In the end, she made a decision.

"If there ever was a chance for me to be able to gain a superpower ability, I would like an ability that could allow me to be able to adapt to the situation.

At the moment, we don’t know what can happen tomorrow. If there is a superpower that can allow me to be able to deal with every situation, at least adapt to the current circumstances and deal with it, it would be better.

I believe that with such a superpower, the potential for growth is extremely high." Kate responded.

Michael had not expected that from Kate. But when he thought about it, he realized that what she said made sense.

Nobody could actually tell what would happen tomorrow. If one was suddenly poisoned, if the body could actually adapt to such a situation, and counter the poison, it would be great.

Then, if injured, if the body could suddenly adapt and heal faster, then that would enable someone to be able to escape danger.

In the end, Michael thought that, while it did not give immediate increase in strength, over time, it would definitely allow the person who possessed that ability to live longer.

At the moment, within the system store, there was an ability that matched what Kate wanted. So, he quickly accessed the system store, before he made the purchase.

"Hey, why did you ask? Is there something that I should know, or maybe I should pay attention to?" After giving a response, Kate asked.
