Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 412 - Tension between strangers
Chapter 412: Chapter 412 - Tension between strangers
As he was observing me, I was observing him too. I ended up smirking at him with cold eyes. There was a certain awkwardness that is starting to build up between us that the couple tried to break the ice by saying, "Priest Clarence has been staying here for almost half a year now. He helps us to manage the town better and he even helps in labor-intensive jobs as needed.
I broke my staring contest with the priest and looked towards the elderly couple. I nodded with a smile and replied, "I see." I changed the topic by formally introducing myself as the royal envoy and also a doctor sent towards the northern military camps.
I abruptly stood up after my short introduction. bid my farewell and simply said that I will start working on my tasks now as the royal envoy. I can see the shock in the priest’s eyes as I started to refuse to acknowledge his presence. It is not that he is evil as a person. I just find him shady, that’s all, It is not normal to do things for others for nothing unless you are a saint or something.
I turned around and started walking to the door to exit the chief’s house. After I exited the main door of the house, I started hearing hurried footsteps from behind me and then my lower right arm suddenly got grabbed from behind. My initial reaction was to jerk my hand free but I forgot to control my strength so the priest got flung to the ground a bit.
The young priest was panting from the sudden run because he was surely was sitting in the chief’s living room but now, he is suddenly behind me. In between his heavy breathing, he politely invited me, "Excuse me, Royal Envoy Luna. Can you please come with me to the chapel? I just want to discuss something very important with you."
I simply stared at him wordlessly and just helped him up from the ground. Once he is back on his feet, I apologized but still did not agree to go with him since I feel like he is trouble. I don’t want to be rude but I have more pressing matters than to learn about their church and beliefs.
I turned my back on him and continued walking, this time I was headed towards the early morning market since I am not done going shopping yet. I was already given the place where the trading post will be placed, the current location of the clinic as well as the water sources so I can perform my tasks better.
Since I did not agree to his offer, the persistent priest started following me around the market like a puppy. He was walking quietly behind me but I could notice an obvious limping in his gait. I simply thought that he must have had a few scratches since I made him tumble to the ground earlier.
After what seems to be half an hour, his walking speed has greatly reduced. His gait has become more strained and I can see the beads of sweat forming on his forehead. Was he in pain or was he just tired?
Eventually, I couldn’t take it anymore and stopped walking. I turned around to face him with a cold stare as he gasp in surprise. He was so surprised that he abruptly stopped walking too and he even lost his balance and feel on his bottom.
I know he is a priest alright but I don’t think I should use my magic in the open so I chose the next best thing. I walked towards him and hoisted him like a sack on my shoulders. Clarence screamed in surprise as I mumbled "shut up" and don’t attract more attention that what we already had.
He immediately went silent as he bounced quite embarrassingly on my shoulder while I walk. As we were walking, I placed my hand on his lower back to avoid him incurring more injuries if he falls down. I couldn’t help but also wonder why a priest feels heavier than he looked.
Underneath his loose priest garments, I can feel his well-developed chest and abdominal muscles. Even his thighs and arms were toned as if he had been working out at a gym. I wanted to ask but that would be a very weird and perverted question to ask a man.
I went straight to the chapel and once we are in front of the door, I placed him back on his feet. Just like what I thought, the sudden weight that pressed on his feet made his face wince together with a gasp and whine of pain as he leaned on the wooden door.
He hurriedly opened the door of the chapel with what seems to be a chant. He immediately walked in but he left the door open. When he looked back at me after taking several steps, he saw that I was still standing outside the door without any intention of coming in. He invited me in again and this time, I sighed and walked in. freewёbnoνel.com
After I went inside the chapel, I heard a loud thud as he closed the door behind him. When I turned around to look at him, he was kneeling on the ground, his hands clasped together as if praying to a statue. He loudly exclaimed, "Goddess! You have forgiven us and finally came down to give us your grace. This humble servant will help you in any way he can to make sure that your will shall happen."
My mind went blank at whatever he was blabbering. Sure, I am used to be called by my name, "wife", "queen" or even "your highness" but as for "goddess", this is definitely a first. What I don’t understand is why I suddenly became one in his eyes. This question, I definitely had to ask.
He looked at me in confusion and with an innocent face he answered, "I have seen your face in many of the church books since I was young. It is impossible for me to get it wrong. It is really you. Do you perhaps not remember anything when you were in the mortal realm?"
I looked at him with furrowed brows and said, "This is the first time I heard about your church and your people. How can I be your goddess when I am just a little over 18 so I don’t know how that would be possible? Can I see the book that you were talking about? The one that has my face on it?"
