Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 470 - At Peace With Nature
Chapter 470: Chapter 470 - At Peace With Nature
After staying in the river about half an hour, I asked the guy to get out and dry himself up if he does not want to freeze to death. He obediently walked out of the river and carefully placed the plants and the fish he harvested.
I waved my hand ones to take all the river plants. As for the fish, I summoned the dagger and starting cleaning the innards and the blood right at the riverbank. Caius was about to take the dagger from me when I cut him off and told him to make sure the grill is heated up and the stew was stirred.
He reluctantly left the riverbank to go back to the little kitchen we have and do what he was instructed to do. I finished cleaning the three huge fish he caught in barely 10 minutes. I placed them all in another basket and carried them near the grill.
I chose a very simple preparation method for the fish since I want to be able to eat lunch soon, just rub them some salt, ground pepper and a squeeze of a sour fruit to get rid of the fishy smell and taste. After that, I simply placed all three on the grill to start cooking them. Me and Caius simply took care of the dishes on the stove and the grill in silence.
Once both dishes were fully cooked, I pulled out a rectangular wooden table and a pair of chairs from my storage space and placed it near the grill. I also pulled out a pair of bowl, cups, some spoons and a one liter bottle of cold water. I sat and signaled Caius to do the same.
To say it wasn’t awkward would be a lie. We weren’t exactly friendly enough to each other to share a meal. We only met once before the time at the camp and how we parted ways the first time was complicated. I was running away while he was trying to find out who I was. It was a little cat and mouse thing for a while.
I ate silently while the other guy couldn’t help but make soft moaning sounds from enjoying his meal. He was enjoying it so much that he seemed to have forgotten that another person is seated at the dining table with him. He only stopped the weird way he was eating when I coughed once and chuckled.
His face turned red as he hurriedly looked away. He coughed once and tried to explain himself by saying, "I... Thank you for the food... This is the first time I tasted something this good in my life... I’m... I’m so sorry for showing such an uncultured side of me."
I looked at him for a few seconds then burst out laughing which made his face turn a deeper shade of red. It was funny how he was praising my cooking skills and at the same time trying to keep his dignity. His choice of words to give his apology will make his etiquette teacher proud but he just had to end that sentence about him being "uncultured" like he was every bit of humble.
After finishing the food, he helped out in cleaning the pot, bowls, cups and spoons by the running river water. When he came back to the area where we ate, the kitchen and the dining area were gone. I waved my hand and all the things he just washed by the river disappeared. I saw his eyes widen again and calm down in a matter of seconds.
I turned around and started walking back to the forest in the direction of the area we haven’t scoured yet before lunch time. The next three hours were spent with another session of mostly silent teamwork. What’s different is that this time, we talk once in a while and I started pointing out useful plants to him and teach them their uses.
He made sure to stay attentive to what I was teaching him and he even took note of the names of the plants I have pointed out. Two hours before the designated time that we need to reconvene with the others, Caius’ bag is already filled to the brim. He has also started to walk slower because of the weight of the items.
I ignored it at first but eventually my hobby of caring for things that I shouldn’t just won so I stopped walking. I turned around to face the guy that was surprised of my sudden actions. I walked towards him using big steps and stopped only a step away from him. I saw him do his best not to take a step back even if he looked kind of scared.
He stared at me for a few seconds then cautiously asked, "Is there a problem?" He then looked left and right then right behind me to see if there was any clue as to why I walked back to where he was.
I lifted my right hand, palm facing upwards as I murmured, "Hand". Caius stopped looking around when he heard me say a word all if a sudden. His gaze went back to my face and asked, "What?"
I repeated the word "hand" and though looking very reluctant, he extended his hand forward towards me but he did not touch my hand or go anywhere near my palm. Without warning, I grabbed his hand and slid a storage ring into his thumb.
I felt his whole body stiffen and heard his breath hitch. His face showed a stunned and confused expression. I quickly let go of his hand and turned around. As I started to walk away, I muttered, "Storage ring". His reaction was quite delayed but he eventually thanked me and excitedly placed his whole backpack and the pouches tied around his waist inside his new storage ring.
He almost ran to catch up to where I was walking. I can see on my peripheral vision that there was a huge smile plastered on Caius’ face. I did not know that it was so easy to make this block of ice smile this wide.
