The Ice Dragon stared at Hazuki, who stood in the snow, arguing with empty air.

To whom doth this mortal speak?

The dragon slowly turned its head, scanning the frozen land.

Snow. Ice. Wind.

Nothing.

Is this mortal mad? Perchance 'tis madness that shields him from fear of me, an immortal dragon?

"Oi, mortal!" the Ice Dragon called, its voice rolling like thunder across the waste.

"Attend me!"

Hazuki didn't notice. He was too busy pointing angrily at nothing.

"All I did was ask!" Hazuki snapped. "Why the hell are you mad at me!?"

"Hah!?" Ridan shot back. "That wasn't asking, asshole! You straight-up accused me!"

The dragon watched the scene unfold, patience running thin.

It inhaled deeply, and exhaled a burst of freezing breath toward Hazuki.

"Oi! Evade!" Ridan shouted.

"Huh?" Hazuki turned toward where Ridan pointed, but it was too late, again.

A blast of freezing breath swallowed Hazuki, ice crawling over his body in an instant and sealing him inside again.

Ahh… now this dumbass is stuck in ice again. Man, this old dragon really doesn't have any patience. Just like before. Ugh.

Ridan crossed his arms and glanced up at the dragon.

Just like a thousand years ago. Dumb lizard.

The dragon was about to turn and leave when...

The ice casing shattered again, shards scattering across the snow. Hazuki stood in the center, completely unfazed.

"Oi, lizard! I was talking to Ridan, and you just blasted me with that stinking breath!? You want to end up on the grill!? I'll cut off that tail of yours and roast it!"

The Ice Dragon turned and smirked.

"Heh… A mere mortal speaketh boldly, though thy blows left not a scratch upon me. Dost thou possess a death wish, mortal?"

"Hah? I don't even understand what you're saying, damn lizard!" Hazuki shouted back, unsheathing his short sword. "But believe me, I'm hungry, and I'll slice off that tail and roast it if you keep this up!"

The dragon's eyes narrowed, its breath swirling in the cold air.

"Oh? The mortal dareth challenge me, an ancient dragon? Know this: I have yet to unleash even a fraction of my true power."

Ridan facepalmed.

Does this human really not know fear, or is he just an idiot?

He actually challenged an ancient Ice Dragon and declared he'll cut off its tail with that sword?

Just because that sword's fused with a slime crystal doesn't mean it can slice through those scales…

He sighed, shaking his head.

Those two really want me to follow Hazuki and guide him…

Whatever. He is special, and he does adapt to harsh environments…

"Oi, Hazuki!" Ridan called out.

"What? I'm busy here!" Hazuki wiped his grin away with the back of his hand and glanced at the Ice Dragon.

Spirit Link—Activate.

A shimmer of energy surrounded Hazuki as Ridan fused into his body.

"Oi! Why did you—?" Hazuki's voice started, but then shifted.

"Oh, shut up!" Ridan's voice came from Hazuki's lips.

The Ice Dragon stared in confusion.

"Why hath thy voice changed, mortal?"

"Change?" Ridan smirked through Hazuki's lips.

"Didst thou forget my voice, O 'great' Glacia? Or should I say—Glacia Vonder Noberta?"

The dragon's eyes widened.

"Who art thou!? How dost thou know my name!?" the dragon roared.

"Oh? Let's just say… perhaps thou rememberest a certain genius wizard from a thousand years past?"

"Who?" Glacia tilted her head, confusion flickering across her icy features.

"Heh… It seemeth thy memory hath withered, Glacia. Art thou as a chicken, forgetting all after three steps?"

Glacia recoiled, eyes blazing.

"How darest thou liken me to a... a common chicken? That wretched fowl is naught but daily fare for peasants! I am an ancient dragon, eternal and mighty!"

Hazuki, still listening, blinked and cut in. "Oh, Ridan? You can actually speak lizard language?"

Ridan shot back, "It's not lizard language, dumbass, it's dragon tongue!"

"Hah? You have a dragon tongue now, Ridan?" Hazuki asked, eyebrow raised.

"IT'S NOT—ugh..." Ridan groaned, frustrated. "This is exactly why they call you the crazy guy."

"What? You said 'dragon tongue'! I thought your tongue turned into a dragon's. For your small, puffy body, that's kind of disgusting."

"Dragon tongue means dragon language, you idiot! Ugh! This is why I can't stand morons like you."

"Eww! If you ever grow a big, long tongue like a dragon, there's no way I'm sharing a meal with you again," Hazuki said, making a face.

"Raargh! Just stop it already, or I'll lick your meat soup next time. Or land on your face while you sleep!"

"You've done that before!?"

"No! I haven't… Ugh, whatever."

"Do not dare ignore me!!" the dragon roared, and the wind that swept past them was fierce enough to rattle the snow.

Hazuki crossed his arms, bracing himself against the gust.

"Whoa! That dragon's really mad, huh, Ridan?"

"Of course she's mad. We've been ignoring an ancient dragon, and you just challenged her."

"She? This dragon's a female?"

Ridan groaned. "Of course, you idiot! Didn't you hear me call her by name!?"

"Gla… glamour?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Ridan slapped his forehead. "It's Glacia, not glamour!"

"Man… we should just grab those icy leaves and get out of here, but you had to jinx it." Ridan facepalmed.

"What? I didn't jinx anything! I just said it was kind of easy with no monsters around. How was I supposed to know there was a giant dragon here?"

"Next time, just focus on the quest, damn it, and stop talking."

"What do you think I am, a rock? Of course I talk. I'm human! And you should be grateful I can even see you," Hazuki shot back.

"Hah!? You should be thanking me for sticking with you! Who knows what kind of mess you'd get into without me. Remember the Great Desert? You got lost there because you ignored my advice to take the other road."

"Ah… err… that was just one time." Hazuki rubbed the back of his head, sheepish.

"One? One time?!" Ridan snapped. "Remember Bernardina? The 'aunty' with the giant jaw and the shaved beard? You ignored my advice not to fake being a crippled beggar. You're lucky I told you to run, otherwise, you would've lost your ass to him!"

"Ugh! Don't make me remember that. But hey, at least I got a gold coin out of it. Ehehehe…"

"Yeah, yeah! Now focus. Looks like that dragon girl is super mad."

"Huh? Why?"

"It's because we've been ignoring her."

"Eh? I don't think we were ignoring her…"
