Chapter 6 - Prime

John and Alfred were about to continue their journey as only 2 kilometers remained until they entered the Silver Hill Spring area.

But a wandering predator decided to entangle with them.

It growled slowly and menacingly as the area turned deathly silent as if all little monsters and insects felt primal fear.

'Fuck...don't tell me...'

John didn't need to look much to find the monster.

Alfred took a position in front of John, not backing in the slightest as his paws glinted with sharp claws extending and growled back at the enemy.

The enemy in question was a Prime growth stage monster of Bronze rank.

[Pet Name]: Crimson Bellwood Tiger

[Pet Attributes]: Earth, Flora

[Pet Rank]: Bronze

[Pet Growth Stage]: Prime

— Gene Potential: 98/100

— Strength: 45

— Speed: 38

— Defense: 35

— Soul Core: 100/100

[Skills]:

—> Armored Drive (5-star)

—> Stone Rain (5-star)

—> Prison Entanglement (4-star)

—> Super Pile Charge (5-star)

—> Cornered Grump (5-star / Passive)

'It's strong.'

"Roar!"

Crimson Bellwood Tiger roared towards them and jumped, directly arriving on a tree's branch with just ten meters of distance between them.

John's eyes flashed as he quickly commanded upon seeing the Tiger's earth armor faintly glowing.

Alfred got John's command and dodged by moving forward while John moved to the left-right as a rain of small stones shot at them like bullets.

*Swoosh!*

Alfred used Crimson Swipe upon John's orders, causing the Tiger to jump to dodge, but it was according to plan as John's mental connection quickly issued orders.

Alfred used Umbral Drift, and its speed was faster than simply the jump of the Tiger. As the dark streak passed by, a scythe manifested, using the combo move that was usable when Alfred was in Umbral Drift form.

Dark Scythe!

The Tiger got injured, but it landed safely and directly targeted John as if it knew John was more important.

Its body glowed before it was encased in solid battle armor and shot towards John.

But John was eyeing the Crimson Bellwood Tiger and used Umbral Drift to get away.

The Tiger acted as if it knew it could miss, and focused on John as it used another skill right away, Prison Entanglement.

Instantly, John was trapped within an earthen prison with thick vines creating another layer of lock.

Alfred howled and used Malefic Roar, but the Crimson Bellwood Tiger jumped towards John, dodging the roar's radius while also planning to finish off John.

'Shit! How could I get imprisoned like this? This fucking Tiger is too good.'

The Crimson Bellwood Tiger glowed and turned like a drill, shooting at John as it used Armored Drive + Super Pile Charge, exhausting all of its power in this move.

However, Alfred arrived in Umbral Drift and materialized between the prison and Tiger.

'No! I wouldn't have died even if you didn't defend me, Alfred! You stupid!'

Alfred clawed the Tiger using Blood Claws right before the Tiger's charge struck it. Alfred smashed into a tree and broke it before hitting the ground like a ragdoll, blood pooling around him swiftly.

"Grr!"

Crimson Bellwood Tiger growled and turned to the Prison where it crashed and destroyed it slightly, but it was suddenly startled as a maddening John was right before its face, his hands forming bloody glowering claws as they swiped at its eyes!

"Die!"

After blinding the tiger, John jumped on the tiger's back and grabbed its mouth, pulling it apart.

'Crimson Swipe! Crimson Swipe!'

His hands released Crimson Swipe projectiles right into the Tiger's mouth as it intensely struggled due to the threat to its life, but John's legs were tightly locked into the Tiger's neck area, squeezing together while he exerted strength in his hands to pull apart the Tiger's mouth.

"DIE ALREADY!"

*Crack!*

John quickly extracted the Crimson Bellwood Tiger's soul core while also acquiring its Geno Points and rushed at Alfred who was still breathing, quickly putting it in his mouth.

Alfred's eyes opened and its mouth showed a smile.

"You idiot..." John felt like smacking its head. "Why did you do that?"

"What? You also thought you wouldn't die? Stupid!"

*Wince...*

John wryly smiled. Alfred said that he was weaker than the Tiger, but John could defeat it if he got a chance.

It was true. The Tiger went after John and wanted to eliminate him first because John was stronger as a Tamer. That Tiger must have fought Tamers to know that.

And that once a Tamer dies, the Monster Pet also dies.

Alfred's stats were weaker, but John had higher stats, and with his physique, he could defeat the Tiger like he did, unlike Alfred, who had to clash against a fellow quadruped with lower stats, which would be a disadvantage.

John had to accept that Alfred was right, but he also felt that even if he was injured, it wouldn't have been life-threatening, and they could work together to defeat the Tiger afterward.

As their argument finished, Alfred also healed and thanks to the Tiger's Soul Core, he also broke through to the final stage of his growth—Prime.

[Pet Name]: Ravenous Hound - Alfred.

[Pet Attributes]: Blood / Darkness.

[Pet Rank]: Bronze.

[Pet Growth Stage]: Prime

— Gene Potential: 92/100

— Strength: 40

— Speed: 40

— Defense: 40

— Soul Core: 100/100

[Skills]:

—Blood Claws + Combo Move: Blood Mark.

—Umbral Drift + Combo Move: Dark Scythe.

—Malefic Roar

—Crimson Swipe.

—Shader Beam

"Hey, man, your new skill seems like it would kick some strong ass," John said as he laughed while rubbing Alfred's head. "And the new combo move is good. It looks like if you strike a target with three Blood Claws, you can activate Blood Mark to heal yourself a great deal while bleeding the target significantly."

"Woof! Woof!"

"You want to start the next battle with Shader Beam?" John chuckled. "Fine by me. I'll try the new combo move."

After moving a kilometer, John and Alfred took a rest and also found something.

A chewed arm belonging to a student. Fortunately, it was the arm that didn't have the device, which meant that the student most likely used it and managed to escape.

That was just what John thought. The Arm was chewed a lot, so it wouldn't be strange if the wristband was separated from the wrist.

Whatever the case, John and Alfred continued cautiously and avoided battles they could avoid while taking opportunities when they presented themselves.

Now as they were about to exit the Verdant Canopy Area with a small spring of hot water just thirty meters away which indicated Silver Spring Area, they saw a shiny flower tucked behind the bushes, growing at the edge of a tree's trunk right between the rough patch where the two areas conjoined.

Silver Hill Spring area had large and tall trees with spacious gaps between them, rough green ground, and many hot and cold springs with strong wind glowing all over while Verdant Canony just had thick greenery, a perfect place for predators to hunt sneakily.

John wanted that flower because it was perfect for his future Silverwind Eagle pet.

[Plant Name]: Edgebloom Flower

[Plant Rank]: Bronze

[Plant Attributes]: Flora, Wind

[Effect]:

—> If eaten by a Monster with Flora or Wind attribute, it could result in the following:

1. Increment in Gene Potential.

2. 60% chance of randomly upgrading a skill.

3. 20% chance of creating an evolution mark.

4. 10% chance of rank-up and evolution if a Bronze-rank Monster's Gene Potential is filled and the Monster's growth stage is Prime.

However, It seems that he wasn't the only one eying that flower as another student was looking at him from his 3 o'clock direction.

Making eye contact, John felt that this red-haired guy also wanted the flower.

"That's a strange monster. Never seen it before," the red-haired guy suddenly spoke as a roughly twelve-meter-long python with blistered fiery skin like lava rocks slithered nearby and turned into a spring with its head rising on the same level as its tamer, looking at John.

'A Lava Monk Python of Prime Stage?' John raised his eyebrows.

Smiling, John said, "He is a Ravenous Hound, and his name is Alfred."

"Awoooo!"

"I am Jin Raider," the red-haired boy said as he cupped his fist. "Although I'd wish to avoid conflict, you don't seem to want to part with that flower, so let's have a duel."

"Full Duel," John replied with zero hesitation, "both the Pet and Tamer must fight. No holding back, but I would avoid fatal attacks and focus on disabling, like cutting limbs or blinding. The battle will end once one of us uses the wristband and quits."

Jin raised his eyebrows but then smiled.

"Fine. Let's begin."
