Chapter 52: Admiral Thanatos

Inside a luxurious room sat one of the three most powerful men in the Olympian Empire: the Second Prince.

Before him sat three of the Empire’s ten Admirals. Among those who had reached the Apex level1, the ten Admirals were the most powerful and stood out most due to their powerful Universal Forces and unfathomable abilities.

Behind each Admiral were two Vice Admirals who were at the Sub-Apex level. But in this room, there were eight Vice Admirals, proving that beyond the three Admirals present, there was a fourth Admiral who was not here now.

Everyone here had golden skin, varying in tone from lighter to darker shades of gold. Most also had golden eyes and hair, but there were a few exceptions among them, such as the Second Prince himself, who had green eyes and hair...

Seeing that all those loyal to his faction were present, the Prince began a speech:

"Thank you all for coming here so quickly after my summons. As some of you may already know, the plan for the silent conquest of Jyera failed miserably, and now the Celestes must begin their retaliation against our race. My father’s failure in this matter also raises many doubts about his initial choice for the next Emperor..."

Pausing to let everyone digest the information, the Prince continued.

"Thanks to Vice Admiral Tulliver’s loyal subordinates, my father and elder brother still don’t know that their plan in Jyera has failed..."

Tulliver, who was standing next to another Vice Admiral but didn’t have an Admiral in front of him, stepped forward and bowed to the Second Prince to acknowledge his praise... The other Vice Admirals had envious eyes, but they still praised him, filling Tulliver with pride.

"The Celestials are still at war, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be retaliation now that they know the truth about what we did. Therefore, I plan to take Jyera using the legal means devised by the Celestes themselves."

"As expected of Your Majesty, you don’t think they’ll send warriors capable of defeating us. After all, if they send their best warriors into the middle of a war, they’ll suffer grave consequences..." One of the Admirals said, smiling in understanding...

"Exactly, now we’ll begin the plans and preparations for the battle against the Celestes, but before that, I’ll ask Thanatos to handle the loose ends in Jyera..."

A man with slightly golden skin sat relaxed in the control room of his race’s Battlecruiser. He had long blond hair and golden eyes, and wore a uniform that only his crew and his people would recognize as that of an Admiral.

Inside the same control room, there were only two trusted subordinates of that Admiral. One handled communications, and the other handled logistics for the beautiful planet visible outside the Battlecruiser. Of course, beyond the beautiful planet, there were several wreckages of a massive spaceship, along with thousands of bodies floating through space.

Several drones and small ships scoured the wreckage, collecting anything valuable that might be left of the Jyrean Mothership.

"Admiral, we are now ready to receive another shipment of materials from the planet Elysium*. Would you like to check it out in person?" the Logistics Operator asked.

"Not this time, you alone will suffice."

"As you wish, Admiral..." The operator left the room and went to the cargo deck to check on the valuable resources that had been extracted from this planet for over 10 years...

The Admiral’s eyes watched as a total of three cargo ships left Elysium’s atmosphere and approached his Battlecruiser to deliver another shipment of resources.

At that moment, the other officer received a communication request and stood up hurriedly.

"Admiral, this is a coded emergency call. According to the code, it belongs to the Second Prince."

"Initiate the call."

"Shall I leave the room?" the official asked, wary of overhearing the conversation that would follow.

"The decision is yours..." the Admiral said as he finally answered the communication request.

"Greetings, Second Prince."

"Greetings, Admiral Thanatos."

"To what do I owe the pleasure of your summons, Your Majesty?"

"No such decorum is necessary, Thanatos. A problem has arisen that could turn into an opportunity... The Jyreans have managed to transmit some sort of quantum signal..."

The Admiral’s eyes became serious, and his relaxed posture changed immediately.

"The Emperor doesn’t know yet?"

"No, Tulliver’s subordinates managed to silence the Jyera Observer in time..."

"What do you need me to do?"

"This is a complete disaster, but also an opportunity for my ascension to the position of Crown Prince...

But first, we need to clean up the mess, tie up loose ends, and erase all traces of what we’ve done on Elysium in the last 10 years, including those who remember..."

"I’ll take care of these little details personally. How will you solve the Elysium problem and secure the position of Crown Prince?"

"Now that the discreet resource gathering has failed, if we still want to get our hands on the Jyrean planet, we’ll have to do it using the Celestials’ official means..."

Thanatos opened his mouth, about to say something, but then comprehension dawned on his face...

"I’ll have everything sorted out in less than a day. Make the preparations, Second Prince."

"Okay, see you soon, Thanatos!"

Thanatos turned to his subordinate, who was completely pale upon hearing the terrible news, followed by several details of a conspiracy involving the top of the Empire...

"You heard the message... Prepare to open a Warp Gate to Jyera immediately. Suspend all mining operations on Elysium. Clear as much of this battlefield as you can, and bring back all of our people living on the planet. We will return home in at most two more days!"

"Sir, it would take almost four hours to prepare the Warp Gate coordinates, since the Jyrean Warp Gate has been destroyed..."

"Send me as close as you can, then; you have half an hour!"

"Sir, another thing..."

"What?"

"Those nobles whose wives and concubines are pregnant won’t want to leave Elysium before the children are born... What should I tell them?"

"Tell them they’re on their own if they don’t evacuate with the Battlecruiser."

"One more thing, Admiral..."

"What is it this time?" Thanatos asked, frustrated, hearing his subordinate’s repetitive speech.

"It’s about the wreckage of the Jyrean Mothership. We won’t be able to clean it all up within two days..."

Thanatos pointed his hand out of the Battlecruiser, and amidst the wreckage, a pea-sized black hole began sucking in and devouring all traces of the crimes they had committed against the humans of Jyera...

"Thank you, Admiral!"

Unbeknownst to Thanatos and his men, a small, transparent figure flew out of the wreckage before being pulled in and absorbed by the tiny black hole. The transparent figure resembled one of Jyera’s Councilors and soon flew toward the planet Chronos, miraculously escaping death a second time.

***

Half an hour later, a small Warp Gate opened, and Admiral Thanatos, now aware of all the problems facing the Jyera Observer, passed through the portal without wearing a spacesuit.

As soon as he arrived in the Jyera solar system, his body floated unshakeably in space, the vacuum, the low temperature, and the sun’s radiation... Nothing seemed to affect his golden body or even his clothes. Thanatos realized he was on the outskirts of Jyor, but it wasn’t the planet Jyor that caught his attention, but rather a small Jyrean Colony Ship slowly approaching the atmosphere, ready to enter Jyor.

He activated a visual device and sent a message back to his Battlecruiser.

"Uriel, do you see this? There’s a Jyera Colony Ship still operational... Are any of our race’s Operators using it?"

"Negative, sir, that’s an enemy aircraft... I don’t know how this thing is still operational?"

Ignoring his subordinate’s question, Thanatos pulled a silver spear filled with explosive devices from his inventory. As soon as the spear appeared in his hand, its tip glowed with the Universal Force of space, and the various explosive devices lit up.

Still floating in space, Thanatos struck a throwing pose, and the spear hurtled toward the Jyrean ship. As it sped toward the ship, not a single sound was made, until the spear pierced the energy shield like paper, and the impact with the hull made the first noise in the silent space...

With each wall the spear pierced, luminous metallic pieces of it were left behind, until, after losing several pieces and becoming thinner, the spear stopped on one of the ship’s walls, losing the Universal Force energy at its tip and beginning the detonation of all the explosives inside and those left behind...

"BOOM"

"BOOM"

"CRACK"

"BOOM"

As the ship exploded into many pieces, the debris igniting a meteor shower across Jyor, Admiral Thanatos didn’t even look back after throwing the spear. His entire body glowed with silver energy, and he disappeared from Jyor’s surroundings, appearing in Jyera’s orbit...

His golden eyes seemed to be able to peer through the red clouds that covered the planet, and soon, a certain spot came into his sight, and he disappeared again, teleporting to the location of his first target...
