Chapter 2180: Chapter 2180: Murder and Arson

Xu Huo stopped, and the person in front of him stopped as well. Because of the obstruction by the person behind the wheelchair, he couldn’t confirm whether the person sitting in the wheelchair in front was another version of himself, but the back of the person behind the wheelchair had an obviously abnormal physique.

He was excessively elongated, his height and skeletal structure losing normal proportions, resembling a stretched dough.

The person’s hands were on the wheelchair, head slightly tilted forward — given his height, even bowing his head wouldn’t make it easy to touch the person sitting in the wheelchair, but observing his posture, Xu Huo felt as though the person behind him was lowering his head in a similar manner, peering at him.

An illusion?

It didn’t feel like an illusion because Xu Huo distinctly sensed the presence of something behind him, unless there was something here capable of completely dulling his senses.

Even without seeing the face, the back silhouette was enough to tell that this entity’s appearance was nothing pleasant, but if it wasn’t an illusion, what was it? Surely it couldn’t be an Alien!

"Why aren’t you walking?" a muffled voice asked from behind him.

At that instant, Xu Huo only felt a chilling horror; the voice came as if from deep within a person’s throat without utilizing the mouth or tongue, the words indistinct and carrying an indescribable stickiness, as though something was mixed together to create this sound, yet he precisely understood the voice’s message, asking why he wasn’t moving forward.

Instinctively, Xu Huo felt a chill down his spine. He dared not turn back, nor respond, remaining silent for a few seconds before placing his hands on the wheels.

The wheelchair began to move slowly, the footsteps behind him reappeared, and the hazy shadow in front began moving too.

But as time passed, the shadow in front became clearer, transforming from a mere silhouette to a distinct figure. The distance between them didn’t close, but the increasing clarity of the shadow seemed to push back the surrounding gray and black.

Xu Huo had no desire to turn around, but the "person" behind him seemed intent on making him see for himself, so the silhouette in front became progressively clearer, clear enough to observe the twisted, bulging veins resembling old tree roots on the exposed arm of the "person."

This state didn’t last long, merely a brief ten milliseconds. The veins on the "person" began to pulsate as if worms were burrowing through them, then suddenly their left hand burst, swelling into a mass of filthy, sticky, decaying flesh. As the swelling intensified, what was hidden beneath ruptured through, transforming into many ferocious, menacing eyeballs which in the subsequent second all focused on Xu Huo...

In that moment, Xu Huo’s consciousness seemed to split apart, his entire being cleaved into countless fragments, plummeting into innumerable worlds. Instantly, everything in these countless worlds flooded into his mind like a torrent, making any thought impossible. Unable to endure, he promptly fell into a mental halt, weeping two streams of blood tears unconsciously...

But then, the "person" in front abruptly stopped, their body ceasing to swell further, the eyes on their arm halting their movement. The previous ferociousness vanished, replaced by frozen stillness.

At that moment, Xu Huo, seated in the wheelchair, moved. He wiped his face, stood up, grabbed the Black Blade, and cleaved the "person" behind the wheelchair into several pieces, dousing them with flammable liquid. Once it caught fire, he moved forward, handling the shadow in the same manner. When the arm was chopped down, the eyeballs on it suddenly regained life, rolling to gaze at him – "slash!"

The sharp tip of the blade pierced straight through one front-facing eyeball, then the second, the third, each trying to assault Xu Huo met their end being shredded to pieces. By then, the "Time Ring’s" effect had also expired, the air returned to its natural flow, but the two burned "people" didn’t stand back up, resembling mere heaps of senseless decaying flesh.

Letting out a cold chuckle, Xu Huo raised his hand to sweep the wheelchair ahead out of sight, immediately hearing a collision sound, though it came not from the front but behind.

A Hai had crashed into his wheelchair.

Xu Huo found himself standing back inside the Inquiry Hall. Besides A Hai, Huang Mao and several nearby believers who entered were present, all staring in shock at the blood-drenched, knife-wielding man before them.

The gray and black space seemed never to have existed. Xu Huo surveyed his surroundings, seeing only two burned marks on the ground. No human shapes or flesh pieces remained.

"Did this blood come from your eyes?" Huang Mao quickly came over to support him, whispering to remind him to put away the knife.

Xu Huo did as suggested, storing the prop in his inventory, ignoring the concealed hostility in the believers’ eyes, and sat back into the wheelchair. "Let’s get out of here."

This time, Huang Mao was the one pushing him, hastily moving out through the opposite hall door, immediately asking what he saw inside the hall.

"What did you see?" Xu Huo asked.

Huang Mao, without much thought, just scratched his head, saying, "It wasn’t anything major, felt like dreaming, dreaming about the time of first love."

"Was it a good dream or a nightmare?" Xu Huo asked again. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

You’re good at asking questions," Huang Mao remarked, without reminiscing or regretting past romances, instead expressing sheer fright, "Of course it was a nightmare! I was full of youthful vigor at sixteen or seventeen. That day, while giving a friend backup with my bros, I ran into a sister. She literally grew to look just like my Dream Lover, her personality my perfect match..."

"Get to the point." Xu Huo interrupted.

"The point is, I fancied her, and she fancied me. One day, when we went to a small hotel, and upon taking off her pants, she turned out to be a Cannibal Player!" Huang Mao inhaled deeply, "Even now, as an Advanced Player, recalling that experience in the middle of the night chills me to the bone, can you relate?"

A Hai among the "you" seemed a bit lost in thought, and Xu Huo didn’t intend to answer the question either, instead querying A Hai, "And you? What did you see upon entering the Inquiry Hall?"

"Ah... Ah?" A Hai just then snapped back, hesitantly looking at him, "The Inquiry Hall is where believers confess. If someone does wrong or commits evil but refuses to admit it, the Inquiry Hall can awaken them, allowing them to Start Over."

"Like the Eye Symbols and the Divine Hall’s Main Gate, the Inquiry Hall also has the power to discern good from evil. Only those harboring malice are punished..."

"That’s not quite right, then why was he barred from the temple?" Huang Mao interjected.

"Because the Divine Temple primarily restricts those disrespectful to the Goddess, whereas the Inquiry Hall questions the heart, that’s where one’s true moral standing is judged." Xu Huo provided A Hai’s answer instead, "Is that so?"
