Chapter 2599: The Final Power Insignia

“Wuhui?” Salamay had been in this world for some time now. While serving Emperor Yao, she'd consciously tried to gather information about the powerhouses in this world. She needed to know who could and couldn't be trifled with. She'd even considered exploiting the conflicts between the powerhouses to free herself from Emperor Yao’s slavery.

Fire Celestial Wuhui was a renowned expert in this world, and he fell into the category that she couldn’t mess with. She couldn’t comprehend why Wuhui would suddenly attack her when there was no grudge between them.

Everything only clicked when she noticed Yun Yuqing standing behind Wuhui. Her eyes brimmed with indignation. Why can others always find such a strong and loyal backing? The Incestuous King was devoted to me but he was weak, whereas Emperor Yao is strong but isn’t willing to stand up for me.

Why?! Why do others have such a good life when mine is so tough?!

She wanted to vent the seething anger from life’s injustices with a roar, but Wuhui’s fire spear had already claimed her life. Her body collapsed to the floor. Her eyes remained wide, but the light in them had been extinguished.

“My daughter!” The infuriated Lord of Slaughter charged over.

A glint flashed through Wuhui’s eyes. With a flick of his wrist, his fire spear transformed into a massive fire saber. He brought it down upon the Lord of Slaughter with unstoppable momentum.

The fire saber’s terrifying aura and killing intent shocked the Lord of Slaughter, but it was already too late to back down. He mustered his courage and swung his saber with all his might.

The physical saber and the flame saber clashed. However, the former caved in and exploded into countless fragments. The flame saber continued rushing forth with unabated momentum to slice through the Lord of Slaughter’s chest.

Pu!

A bloody mist splattered. The Lord of Slaughter’s massive body collapsed.

“Hm? He’s still alive even after taking a strike from me?” Wuhui was surprised too. He brandished his flame saber once more to kill the Lord of Slaughter for good.

Yun Yuqing took this chance to transport the terrified Suolun Shi to Zu An’s side.

Zu An was overjoyed to see Yun Yuqing. “What brings you here?”

“We happened to pass by. Wuhui is in the midst of contacting the experts of this world.” The sight of her lover made Yun Yuqing’s eyes curve into beautiful crescents.

Suolun Shi further lowered her head miserably. Big brother Zu’s lovers are so beautiful and competent, whereas I only cause trouble for him.

Just then, there was another twist on the battlefield. Emperor Yao flashed over to the Lord of Slaughter’s side. He made no particular movement, but a spherical light barrier that manifested around him blocked Wuhui’s flame saber.

“Are you going to stand in my way, Yao?” Wuhui coldly asked. He had a fiery temper to match his position as the Fire Celestial.

Emperor Yao smiled. “There isn’t a grudge between you two, and he isn’t fated to meet his end here.” The latter half of the sentence was directed at Zu An.

Zu An was stunned. He knows a fair bit. “Indeed, he’s fated to meet his end in the future.”

In the future, the Lord of Slaughter would break free of his seal and go on a massacre. Qiu Honglei would be forced to perform her mysterious ritual dance to summon an enigmatic entity to subdue him. Since Qiu Honglei was already out of danger, it would be unwise to tamper with the cause and effect of the world, or else the future could be thrown into disarray.

Seeing that, Wuhui retracted his flames. “Fine, I’ll spare him then.”

The Lord of Slaughter was shocked. Wuhui surprisingly respects Zu An’s opinion. Are the two of them acquainted?

But what shocked him more was their discussion. Salamay had told him what would happen in the future. In the first place, he had come to this world in hopes of obtaining an ancient legacy to rewrite his fate. He'd thought his encounter with Emperor Yao was a blessing, as the latter could help him awaken his ancient bloodline. Little did he know that the other party had thought of him and his daughter as disposable tools all along. Despite his struggles, his fate remained unchanged. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

His daughter’s death and the realization that he was helpless to change fate lifted his reservations, and he roared at Emperor Yao, “Yao, how can you just throw us aside after we did so many dirty deeds for you?! I’ll haunt you even as a ghost!”

Emperor Yao laughed. “You won’t have a chance to become a ghost.”

He tapped the Lord of Slaughter’s forehead, sending a ray of golden light into the latter’s head. The Lord of Slaughter’s angry eyes slowly lost their light before gradually closing.

Zu An was startled. “What are you doing?”

“Calm down, I didn’t kill him. I’m merely erasing his memories. I don’t think he recalls anything that happened here when you encounter him again in the future, right?” Emperor Yao smiled.

Zu An looked at Emperor Yao wryly. I bet you’re just silencing him lest he reveal the dirty things he's done for you.

But he had to concede that Emperor Yao was right. He was also worried that if the Lord of Slaughter retained his memories about this world, the latter could assassinate him as soon as he broke free of his seal.

Zu An suddenly empathized with Xihe. Fate was so powerful that it felt as if they could only be helplessly swept away by it. Somehow, fate had a way of correcting its trajectory in unexpected ways, ensuring that history aligned with the future.

“What are you doing here, Wuhui?” Emperor Yao asked.

“I was rallying the experts on earth together to investigate Dijun’s forging of the Myriad Souls Banner, but that has little meaning now that the war between the shamans and the fiends has already commenced. So, I came here to propose an alliance with the human race to deal with the shamans,” Wuhui replied.

Emperor Yao chuckled. “When did the Celestial Court start thinking so highly of the human race as to extend a hand to them?”

Wuhui harrumphed. “The human race might be insignificant, but it’s only right for them to raise their arms and fight in this tumultuous period.”

Emperor Yao reined in his smile. “That may be true, but why does the human race have to fight for your people?”

Wuhui was appalled and enraged. “The Celestial Court protected the human race over the years, and the human race worships the deities of the Celestial Court too. You yourself are from the Celestial Court, and a descendant of the Celestial Emperor no less. How can you choose to fight for the enemy?”

“But the Sshamans have also protected the human race, and the humans worship some shamans as deities too. It doesn’t seem right to choose a side.” Emperor Yao paused as he glanced at the city. “I might be from the Celestial Court, but the human race now worships me as the Human Emperor too. I cannot let down their faith in me.”

Wuhui’s expression darkened. “Are you planning to help the shamans?!”

Emperor Yao shook his head. “The human race is too weak to be caught in the war between the shamans and the fiends. We shall help neither side.”

Wuhui exhaled in relief. “Fine. Just remember your own place and fulfill your promise!”

The worst-case scenario was for the human race to side with the shamans. Compared to that, the human race taking a neutral stance was an acceptable outcome.

Wuhui still needed to recruit the other powers and bring them under the Celestial Court, so he didn’t want to waste time here. He turned to Yun Yuqing.

Yun Yuqing shuffled to Zu An’s side and said, “I want to stay with him.”

Wuhui frowned. Were it in the past, he would have never allowed someone with such pure Celestial Emperor bloodline to stay with a mortal, lest their pure bloodline be sullied. However, with the war between the shamans and the fiends intensifying, Wuhui would soon have to join the battlefield too. It would be dangerous for him to continue taking Yun Yuqing with him. So, he made sure to warn Zu An before leaving on his fire cloud.

Emperor Yao turned to Zu An and smiled. “We’re the only ones left now. Would you like to fight or not?”

Zu An was speechless. This fellow is a master of psychological warfare. My hostility toward him has mostly faded after everything he said.

More importantly, Emperor Yao was key to the human race’s future prosperity. Unpredictable things could occur if something were to happen to Emperor Yao now. Perhaps Zu An and his lovers would even cease to exist in the future.

“You’re right. There’s no reason for us to fight.”

“It’s a pleasure to communicate with a smart man. Here, I have a gift for you. You’ll probably need it.” Emperor Yao casually tossed an item over.

Zu An caught the item and inspected it. It was a staff harnessing the Human Emperor’s aura. It was the Human World’s power insignia!
