While Cauis and Khalifa were going at it, Hugo was having a professional meeting with Kylo and the General.

They sat in the General’s meeting room. Interestingly, Sid and Jojo were there with them as part of Hugo’s party.

"Good to see you alive and well," General told Hugo with a smile, recalling their previous interaction back in peaceful times, though very deep in an underground laboratory.

He then shifted his gaze towards the weapon splayed out on the coffee table. "And still recreating the weapon on your own."

Hugo chuckled and looked quite smug, and Kylo sighed, blue eyes staring at the plasma gun.

This was the very weapon Prance had promised to produce back then, which was why he had such a high status despite having yet to produce the product.

When Prance died, Kylo and the others thought they had lost this. He was glad that the useful technology had not been lost, but it felt complicated to owe a love rival.

Liam—one of Kylo’s right hand men—then spoke out, thinking something similar.

"At least we didn’t have to feel pity now that Prance is gone and didn’t share the knowledge."

"Prance is dead?" Hugo and the others uttered, turning to look at him.

Kylo nodded, "We went to interrogate him as soon as we saw the anomaly with the fuselage."

Hugo sneered at this, "Yeah, we almost died."

Kylo’s jaw clenched. This was definitely still a sensitive area for him. Hugo was just about to poke on it when the General diffused it by commenting.

"Well, it’s good you all survived."

"Yeah, only thanks to Khalifa," he said, looking at Kylo who was staring back.

"What happened to your team?" He asked, knowing Khalifa wouldn’t tell him the entire story lest it made him even more guilty.

Hugo would have no such qualms. It so happened that he definitely wanted to poke pain at the guy.

"We fell down a river. She used her ability to save us, almost drowning herself. I assume she was saved by that curly haired brat." He clicked his tongue, still annoyed.

He then glared at the raven-haired man, very irritated. "What kind of prison do you have that a prisoner could still do so much damage?"

"It wasn’t him." Kylo said, "It was a woman named Suli."

At the mention of the name, another one of their audience abruptly stood up.

"What?" Sid immediately reacted to this, "Impossible!"

His sister was spoiled and selfish, but she wouldn’t try to get him killed!

…Right?

They all turned to look at him, and he would’ve flushed in embarrassment had he not been focused on the implications.

Kylo looked him straight in the eye, "We investigated very thoroughly," he said, "She definitely had a lot to do with it."

Sid felt his head exploding. "I’ll talk to her, I—"

Kylo shook his head. "She escaped just as we concluded the investigation."

"What?"

Jojo looked at Sid and sighed. Poor guy. Things never seemed to go the way he wanted.

"How’d he die?"

"Before we left, we found him dead in his cell. The apparent cause is Suicide."

Hugo sneered, crossing his arms. "Him? Suicide? Do you believe it?"

"No," It was Liam who spoke up this time, "But there was some letter with his handwriting, saying he couldn’t live without family anymore."

No one believed this at all. That selfish guy could try to rape Khalifa a day after finding out his daughter was dead.

However, for now, there was no use spending too much brain cells with trash like him.

If it meant something else, or someone did it to him… well, they definitely had their eyes opened for the person’s next moves.

Not wanting to discuss that guy anymore, he decided to shift the topic back to the awesome him.

"Anyway, I see that you’re having so much trouble with zombie mobs. Fortunately for all of you, I’m here," he said, leisurely lounging in his chair. "The weapons aren’t free though."

"Of course. We’ll buy them with crystals for a fair price." The general said, and Hugo nodded, happy with the deal.

As they discussed the deal (with Hugo grinning the whole time, wondering how Khalifa would reward him), the topic shifted to another one.

This time, the general’s tone lowered a timber.

"I actually called you in here for a more important mission," he said, and the men immediately straightened their backs, knowing the seriousness of the matter.

"I want you to go to the Aegis lab."

Hugo blinked and looked at him. "That lab?" he said, referring to the one he worked in before. His eyebrows rose. Other than the weapon—which he could already provide—what else was there?

"Yes, it’s that laboratory. However, more than the weapons… the target is the premier scientist team that studied the virus."

"What?" Everyone turned to him, even Hugo. After all, all floors of the lab tended to not know about the others, especially if it was extremely confidential.

Civilization-ending viruses happened to be one of the most secret studies.

"So you guys knew about the virus?!"

The general shook his head. "We feared it, after we found anomalies all over the world, every government was mobilized.

"There were naturally other countries involved in this, but from what I’ve gathered the Aegis lab made most progress."

"What is the Aegis lab?" Jojo asked, curious. Then he realized the inappropriateness of him speaking and blushed. "Erm. I mean, if you could tell us. It’s okay if you don’t."

Fortunately, the General was in a good mood with getting plasma guns, so he kindly explained, "There is a secret base developing good weapons like plasma guns and studying the virus."

"It’s smack in the middle of the capitol, and extremely dangerous."

"I couldn’t risk it before." He looked at Kylo, "But now…"

"Are you sure they’re still alive?"

"Assuming they didn’t all turn to zombies, they should be able to survive there for years because it’s self sustainable," he said. "So there was no rush. It’s best to plan such a difficult mission well."

Kylo actually didn’t know much about it, as his clearance was limited. On the contrary, Hugo, who was ’kidnapped’ to do some studies, did know a bit.

Combined with Kylo’s expertise and their team’s strength, the general thought they were the perfect candidates for the rescue mission.

This was why General Lee opened the topic in the first place.

This group—Khalifa and her men—were the only candidates that had the remotest chance of completing it with complete limbs.

Later.

"Aegis lab?" Khalifa asked, looking at her men who had now congregated in the living room.

She was lounging relaxedly on the sofa, resting her head on Cauis’ shoulder. The professor was now feeding her strawberries from her space, while her dainty feet were held and caressed by Kaize.

If anyone else was there, they’d definitely comment on how she was living like a queen.

But none of the people there thought much of it, with the men telling Khalifa the complete contents of the earlier meeting. It was only then that she realized the reason why Sid wasn’t there.

Poor guy…

However, the topic of the Aegis lab deepened and the more she found out about it, the more her eyes brightened.

"We may have to take this…" Kylo started a bit embarrassed about opening the topic.

"No, no, it’s fine. I want to take it."

"Really?"

"Hm~"

Kylo’s shoulders slumped in relief, and Khalifa smiled, placing a kiss on his cheeks.

Her excitement for the lab was not just because of the scientist. For the most part, it had a lot to do with Kylo’s life and death.

Khalifa had never told them about what would happen to Kylo, how he was set to die in a dangerous rescue mission in a few weeks.

But… this must be it. And because the General didn’t die, they could do the rescue before the zombies evolved!

They absolutely must take this!
