Soon the mob leaked to their sides and Khalifa and Kylo took out their cold weapons to deal with them. There were dozens of lower-leveled zombies. However, their degree of decomposition told her they hadn’t been turned recently.

This meant that there was a new opening somewhere nearby. She whipped her head towards Kylo, who nodded, immediately running to trace where the new opening was, slashing the zombies blocking his way at the same time.

Later, he would find out the zombies were coming from an inconspicuous alley that was broken down when everyone was busy, well, everywhere else.

He would block this along with the soldiers nearby, but unfortunately there were still a lot of deaths.

Kylo discovered the many flaws of the base that day, swearing to make it impenetrable after all this was over.

Back in the main fight, Khalifa turned to look at Chris and Claire who were defending themselves well.

She focused on the mobs without worrying about them, extending her blade with her ice and taking down a few zombies for every slash.

She slowly moved towards the leak, eating her emergency strawberry to somehow increase her energy reservoir. She was still very reserved in using her abilities though, just in case, and rightfully so because the next moment an ice shield appeared in front of her by instinct, blocking her from a speed zombie attack.

"KHALIFA!" The men yelled, with some of them almost getting hit by the zombie.

Their fight had somehow happened nearby with the zombie pounding on a building. The men were struggling a bit because they couldn’t use their elements much anymore.

At this time, they could only depend on plasma guns, which had also begun to dwindle after so many battles.

None of them had crystals left nor did they have the time to dig zombies bodies. It was very dangerous for them to get distracted and her heart dropped when she saw how they just narrowly got missed by its strong attack.

"FOCUS!" She screamed, heart beating in fear.

Unlike Jacob—who literally realigned his own joints—the other men could really die if they took a direct hit from that huge thing.

"I can do this!" She said, "If I worry about you I’d get injured!"

The men had no choice but to focus on the super-strength zombie while Khalifa handled the speed one on her own.

The thing was full of blood and it was obvious it had killed a lot of people somewhere else. Her heart dropped, hoping the damage wasn’t too big and that there weren’t too many deaths.

It sent multiple attacks on the wall, using its skills, and the thin wall cracked quickly. Khalifa was prepared for it, of course, and she had her blade ready to stab it.

Stab!

She tried to stab its neck but it managed to avoid it so she ended up stabbing its shoulder instead. Her eyes twitched and it quickly adjusted, lunging towards her and uncaring whether the blade went through its body or not.

ROARR!!

BANG!

The zombie was pushed back a step by the force of a shot, and soon more shots came, targeting the exact same spot.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Finally, it fell down, with its brain completely exploding (some were, unfortunately, splattered on Khalifa’s shirt).

She looked up to see it was Sigmund and his plasma gun. He didn’t look at her as he shifted his target to the big zombie.

Sigmund had to move places to be able to help. The plasma gun was weakening and it meant it had reduced more than just in power, but also in distance.

He was very sweaty, his hair stuck on his white skin. But none of this mattered as his concentration was akin to when he was in a lab.

Bang! Bang!

The zombie was strong and the weakening plasma guns were unfortunately not enough to kill it (Hugo had cursed to develop it many times during this one battle). However, it was enough of a distraction and the men joined together to finally make the lethal attacks.

Using all of his recovered mana, Cauis created spikes right where the strength zombie was stepping. They heard squelching sounds as the spikes buried on his feet, halting its movements for a second.

Hugo jumped over its body and manifested metal spikes and buried it in its eyes—which was also softened by Sigmund’s shots. Finally, he and Jacob used their weights to bury the spikes through the damned thing’s skull.

ROARRR!!

It didn’t feel pain, but it knew by instinct what could kill it. It naturally struggled. Khalifa stepped forward and saw its neck bent a little due to all the fighting.

The neck of a super strength zombie was pudgy and not particularly visible. This new vantage point gave her this view.

Khalifa ran forward, lengthening and strengthening her ice blade, using whatever mana she had remaining.

Slash!

The blade plunged through the zombie’s blade. Because of its wide and strong frame, even when it stopped moving, it did not fall down. After a few seconds of tension, it tilted backwards, finally falling down and confirming its death.

They panted heavily, dead tired, but the men immediately ran to see her if she was okay.

Khalifa waved her sword before they could approach, killing a few more zombies that wanted to attack her.

She looked at the side and saw many citizens had also started fighting against the new zombie mobs that came their way.

"It’s not over yet," she told the men, waving their concerns. "Clear up the mob first."

"We’ll handle it, go rest."

She nodded, tired and filled with grime, looking back to where Chris and Claire were, planning on assisting them if they still needed it.

But then she saw… they were no longer there and—looking in another direction—so was Hilten.
