"Let her go, Hilten," Chris said, trying to keep his voice as calm as possible. "You don’t have to run. Turn yourself over—"

"Do you think I’m an idiot! Kylo was intent on killing us!"

Hilten’s eyes were wide and red, his entire body reeked of panic. His overall appearance was nothing like the kind and calm uncle he used to show.

"PUT DOWN YOUR WEAPON!" He yelled, making his hostage squeak, and Chris panicked doing as he was told.

"Okay, okay.." Chris exclaimed and raised his hand, putting his weapon down.

He saw a small line of blood drop and his heart broke. At the same time, he was thinking of how to get Claire of this situation.

He messed up.

Because they got surrounded by zombies, he immediately took her to an alley and protected it so he at least had some cover. However, while he was busy dealing with the mob, Claire was taken right behind him!

He tensed up when he saw Hilten slowly move back. "Don’t move!" Hilten yelled but in his panic and shakiness the blade sliced a little deeper in Claire’s neck.

"B-Be careful, Hilten!" Chris said with red eyes. "If anything happens to Claire, I will kill you in the most horrible way—"

Hilten’s jaw clenched. He looked around, looking for where he would go, but then he noticed how the wind around Chris changed in his anger and it made his eyes turn red.

"So you’ve awakened, too?! Why! Why haven’t I awakened a power yet?!"

This also meant that he didn’t need a weapon to deal with him!

At this, Hilten took a knife and pointed it at Claire’s stomach.

"NO!" She yelled and she immediately sobbed, making Chris freeze in similar fear.

Hilten knew people well even if he didn’t spend much time with them.

He knew that Claire would react much more strongly if he targeted her baby instead of her. Similarly, the more the girl reacted, the more the lad would be affected.

"No funny business!" He yelled, and Chris immediately raised his hand and the wind around him died down.

"Let her go! I promise not to touch you!"

He didn’t let Claire go—of course he didn’t—but he rushed back first to behind him. He would occasionally look back for his path, but most of his attention was on Chris.

There was no second that the knife hovering over Claire’s stomach separated by more than an inch.

Claire shook, trying to get her hands untied but to no avail. She was pulled farther and farther and Claire tried to calm herself down as she stared at Chris who had been following safely a few meters away.

"STOP FOLLOWING!"

"NO!"

Hilton cursed, putting the knife even closer. "I will really kill this baby!"

The words rang in Claire’s ears. As if something clicked in her brain, she gathered herself—she calmed herself enough to know that the only person who could save her baby now was her!

As she was pulled, her trickles of water drenched the rope bit by bit. She forced herself to recall what Khalifa taught her.

By the next alley, the water she manifested had congealed to something a little more solid.

Claire was very talented, and she managed to sharpen it enough using all her concentration.

Her eyes brightened when the rope broke and her eyes met Chris.

Hilten did not notice as he glared at the man. He threateningly lowered the knife, pressing harder on the stomach again. "STOP FOLLOWING US!"

Chris’ feet stopped but his eyes never left Claire’s who nodded a little.

With her free hand she pushed the knife away and she sprinted to Chris, who used his wind ability to completely imbalance the man.

Unexpectedly, a figure appeared and immediately hit the man on the head.

BANG!

"YOU BASTARD! You dare hurt my friend!" She yelled, banging the middle-aged man repeatedly with the brick.

Hilten was shocked to see who his attacker was. "You—!"

BANG!

BANG!

It was Mira, and she was unsightly. Her body and face seemed to be filled with permanent black red scars, and some were drooping in pus. It was extremely disgusting, and they felt if left untreated for a while longer, maggots would appear.

The blots of blood on her face and maniacal smile made them uncomfortable—no, terrified.

The barrage of attacks came so suddenly and Hilten got dizzy with the force.

He tried to fight by catching her hands, but the zombie fight from before had weakened him significantly. Partnered with a woman’s venomous hate for a betrayer, even if he was a soldier, he eventually succumbed.

He drowned in his own blood as his nose and lips got crushed.

SPLACK!

Mira pounded on him over and over, until the man could no longer move, completely dead.

Hilten died an even more embarrassing death than his mentor.

Mira was panting, a smile on her face as blood splatters stuck to her face. She turned her ugly face to the two who were watching her with complex expressions.

"Are you alright? I killed him for you!" She said with a smile, like a good friend.

Chris extended his arm to stop her from approaching.

Mira shook and realized the bloodied brick was in her hand and she threw it down.

"I helped you! Help me please! Heal me, ne?"

Mira had been watching their standoff for quite a while, using the parallel street as her way to follow them. She had wanted to watch him stab Claire first before coming to rescue, but alas..

Seeing Claire not answering, Mira sobbed, looking at her with a gentle expression. With her current face, thought, she looked like a character in a horror movie.

"Are you still mad?" She asked but shook her head, showing ’understanding’.

"Claire… I was threatened… you understand, right?" She tried to grab Claire’s hand but was pushed back by Chris wind.

Claire’s eyebrows furrowed and she looked away, disgusted—but not in her appearance, but in her shamelessness.

Mira wanted to keep going to her but was blocked by Chris, over and over, until the already irksome and in-pain Mira snapped.

"Please, Claire! HEAL ME!" She yelled, lunging forward as if touching Claire would force her to help!

Before she could take a step though, she was immediately blown away by his winds, scratched by the unconscious wind blades.

Chris didn’t even do it on purpose, but his ability followed what he truly wanted to do.

"AHHHH!" She yelled as slashes appeared around her body and when it stopped she looked like a bloodied rag on the floor.

But Chris wasn’t guilty. Instead, he even walked over, looking down with dark eyes.

"We’re not idiots, Mira. Don’t show yourself in front of us, otherwise, I’d do much worse."
