The team cleared out the remaining zombies, with the citizens moving the corpses to specific areas in the open field.

While they were cleaning up, Khalifa was just sitting there with a lifeless Sid on her knee. Her expression was blank and she just stared at the lad, patting his head.

Suli was sobbing nearby, but not too near, because she felt that Khalifa would kill her if she showed herself.

The men helped with the clearing, oftentimes silently accompanying Khalifa in her mourning, but they knew it wasn’t time to approach either.

Eventually, everything and every corpse had been retrieved for burning and it was time for them to take Sid’s body as well.

Hugo, as the husband who had known Sid best, approached Khalifa and gently patted her shoulder. "It’s time to say goodbye now, my love.

"Time to put him to rest."

Khalifa blinked as he looked at him and it broke his heart, making him want to hug her. But he didn’t, and he simply leaned down to carry Sid’s corpse to his arms to bring him with the others.

Unexpectedly, Khalifa walked in a direction, and to the girl sniffing in a corner.

"Please don’t kill me!"

"I won’t kill you," she said, "Sid died for you, how could I waste that?"

"However," she paused, eerily grabbing the girl’s hair before pulling it back, "I will not let you go until you apologize to his grave, repeatedly, until I’m satisfied."

The ceremony for their losses was quick but meaningful. The corpses were lined properly regardless of whether they were zombies or not, and people were allowed to say goodbye to their friends or family.

Suli was kneeling on the ground, repeatedly kowtowing, hitting her head on the ground in apology.

"Brother… I’m so sorry. I wish I had been a better sister.

"You deserve so much more, but I promise to live as the best human I could be—I will make you proud, brother," she said, and that was that.

Khalifa sighed, not sure if she was satisfied, but her heart was just heavy at the loss of Sid.

She felt a warm arm wrap around her and pulled her closer. "He would’ve been even more heartbroken if his sister went before he did."

Khalifa nodded, she knew this. Sid was too soft hearted and selfless. It’d have broken him if it was his sister who was bitten.

Before they turned to leave though, they heard a scream. They turned to see Suli, who was screaming at the top of her lungs, looking at her bandaged hand in horror.

"No—NONONONO!!!"

Apparently, there was indeed zombie blood in the glass that nicked her. It wasn’t much—not really—and an abled person might have had an immune system strong enough to handle it. Unfortunately, Suli wasn’t one of those people.

She looked around in fear and looked at Khalifa. She ran to her, but she fell as she was still in shock. She was shivering and she felt she was losing control of her body and she cried, crawling to Khalifa.

"Please! Help me! Please!!"

Khalifa sighed and shook her head, knowing it was useless.

Suli saw this, but how could she accept it? "NO! PLEASE!"

"PLEASE! My brother! He’d want you to help me!!" She screamed at the top of her lungs.

The men sighed and stood between them, ready to kill the girl in her stead. Khalifa looked at them and turned to walk away.

Endless deaths and sacrifices. That was what everyone would have to live with in these trying times.

But Khalifa didn’t believe that was their only choice. She just wanted this apocalypse to end already.

While the territory was settling, the ugly Mira filled with scars and pus walked around, following a certain couple.

The pain had gotten into her head that she didn’t care no matter how many times Chris threatened her anymore. If he used his ability—which he really couldn’t use much, considering he had just awakened—she would just stand back up.

It was very annoying. Like a weed that could not be cut.

She kept trying to hold on to Claire to get to her good side, rousing disgust everywhere—and this was not even considering how gross she actually looked.

She continued to beg the couple with deep emotion that if one didn’t know what she had done, they’d feel pity for her.

Unfortunately for Mira, her colors had long been revealed—especially during the mob—and there was no heart that softened for her.

"Please, Claire! Please!!"

Although she could ask Khalifa, she knew what she’d say. That woman was also cold with the loss of one of her ’men’, and she feared she’d be frozen to death for asking.

She’d rather ask Claire first—since they ’owed’ her for killing Hilten anyway.

"I can’t do it," Claire said, "Please go."

"Stop bothering Claire, Mira," Chris said, with impatience and threatening, "She can’t be stressed. I’ll use lethal force."

Mira’s eyes turned red as she glared at her first love. "Don’t be ungrateful! I killed Hilten for you!"

"You wanted to kill him! We’d have been fine without you!"

"You! You ungrateful—"

At this Chris stepped forward, and his face showed darkness she never thought she’d see in him.

"When I see you I remember what you’ve done to us, and it’s making me very angry," he said, wind slowly forming around him.

He didn’t have much energy left, but his anger fueled it.

He had been holding it in lest he really massacre her in front of the soft-hearted Claire. He could remember her words to Claire while he was in a coma. He wanted to skin her alive!

The only thing stopping him was the fact that Claire was soft, especially now that she was pregnant and might blame herself for the harshness.

He could only stop himself. However, this woman had been pushing all sorts of buttons, triggering him.

At this thought, even stronger winds surrounded him, making the girl pale as she shivered.

Mira, who had lived ’a life’ before knew how strong Chris’ wind actually could get. She had been pushing because the pain was too much, but now she was reminded of how stupid she was being!

A breeze attacked her and she immediately fell down. It wasn’t even that strong, but her legs had been shaking and her cowardice let her fall.

She shivered as she looked at him, peeing a bit.

Claire looked at Chris, seeing his eyes red, jaw clenched, and his fist almost bleeding. He was livid and was doing his best to hold back. She knew Chris very well, and knew what was stopping him.

If it was the ’her’ from before the world was destroyed, she could indeed forgive Mira, even after all she had done. They might never become friends again, but she’d let her go in favor of old times.

But now… she had gone through so much, and she was expecting a life to come out of her—a life she had to protect.

How could she let anything that’d threaten it go?

"My love," she said, gentle smile adorning her pretty face. "It’s not good to hold back."

At her words a small ball came out of her hands. It moved slowly, but it was fascinating to look at. Even Mira, who was peeing on the ground, stared.

That was, until she saw the ball expand and covered her mouth and nose!!

Gurgle, gurgle, gurle—

Unfortunately, Claire had overestimated the energy she had left after over-exerting with the general earlier and the suffocating ball faltered immediately. The pregnant woman paled and Chris immediately went to stop her.

Mira—still grasping her throat—gasped for air. She shook, completely not expecting this from Claire.

She saw that the couple was distracted and immediately crawled away—running for her life.
