With the arrival of the new refugees, the progress of the Port Base expansion was prioritized and they even started looking for more areas to expand towards.

First, more farmland and other resource generating areas had to be made, so they expanded into the forest areas and the suburb areas for that. Of course, they would not cut down most of the forests. Rather, they would be using a lot of vertical farming in these areas for sustainability.

They also expanded towards a small factory area nearby. It wasn’t much of an industrial zone, but it was enough to serve the population and more. These factories would be converted to making various basic items like crackers, instant noodles, jerkies, and the like.

There were also plans for future expansion such as clothing factories and the like, though that’d have to wait until they got enough cotton or flax.

Anyway, as long as they cleared the commercial areas and warehouses, they would have enough modern items that could—hopefully—last until they figured out how to produce them.

For the military capabilities of the territories, armories were also created led by Hugo. There was also a spot for a proper barracks to train their forces, led by Kylo and the military powers he was assigning there.

As for the residential areas, they preferred the areas with ready-built structures.

They made some calculations and concluded that if they were to take in a few thousand more people from surrounding areas—which they wouldn’t actively do, but should still be prepared for—they would have to expand to around twice their current area and build some mid-rise structures.

Fortunately, the port area was relatively developed and had a few mid-rise structures they could use. A lot of cleaning up had to be done, but with everyone’s help it was doable.

After all, the goods could now be bought for a fair amount of zombie crystals. This alone was enough to get the civilians out to kill the zombies outside.

One of the main targets for expansion were the schools. They were perfect to turn into dorms, not including the actual dorms that were already there.

There would also be gymnasiums and open spaces which could be purposed to various functions.

While there were a few big high schools and universities in the area, most of them were too far from the port to use for now. Fortunately, they did find two schools to use. One was a public high school and another was a private one.

The public high school was unsurprisingly filled with zombies and the clearing mission there was pretty big. Kylo and Hugo led it themselves.

The Private school’s case was much more interesting. In the first place, there were far fewer students here. It was also located deep into the suburb areas.

According to some locals, this was a posh school created by a few rich people who owned islands nearby. A lot of the students also had daily trips to these islands, and they had shorter school times.

They weren’t quite sure at what period the apocalypse hit this place, but there were very few zombies in this area.

So, other than a few people, Khalifa and Cauis handled and assessed this place.

It was naturally much smaller than the other school. It only had two buildings, one for schooling and another for dormitories. The dormitories which had rooms designed for only one or two students. However, it seemed that classes were out when the apocalypse hit so many of the students were there.

Still, it was not much and they cleared the dormitories in a relatively short time. They also took some back-of-house items in their storages and canteens to be transferred to the base.

They took the schooling items like paper, pens, pencils, computers, and the like. Their computers, calculators, were also solar powered, which was extremely convenient.

Also, while the canteen food was fresh (and therefore rotting by now), there were a lot of expensive snacks that still had long expiration dates, even wines, and many others.

The men loved the wine, but Khalifa’s eyes shifted to the set of unused uniforms in the linen area, and her eyes glinted a bit of interest before turning to Cauis, who was studying the other stock—completely unaware of what his girlfriend was thinking.

Anyway, the dormitory had little event, and clearing the classroom building was even lighter. Other than a few janitors, staff, and students, the classroom area was cleared in no time. It was so light they had to warn the team many times not to be complacent.

But… they really could’ve—act lax, that is—because there were really very few people in such an exclusive school.

But the time they ended up in the last classroom, they had the energy to look around and admire the aesthetics of the place. There were twenty desks arranged far apart, no doubt made of exclusive wood.

The room was nicely decorated with expensive wood flooring, desks, and moldings. Even the multi-layered curtain seemed to be made of silk or velvet…

At this time, a window was opened, letting one of the lighter layers flow with the wind a bit, making the sight actually look a bit quaint.

Khalifa walked around the room in interest, her dainty fingers tracing a few surfaces and felt dust.

She waved her hand and they watched as sprinkles of glowing water surrounded the room and attached to the surfaces.

The people nearby had been watching her—as they always did—but they watched in fascination as the water particles moved, congealing into a large ball that eventually floated out the open window.

"There, clean."

"Wow…" the civilians said with wide eyes, with someone even clapping their hands. "That’s amazing Miss Khalifa…"

A water user was even brighter. "Would I be able to do that too? Household chores would be a cinch!!"

She giggled, fascinating all who saw. "Well, if your practice enough."

"Yes, Miss Khalifa!"

The episode ended shortly after, with the party heading out to go home, no doubt to brag about a successful mission and witnessing Miss Khalifa use her ability to clean beautifully!

Unexpectedly, Khalifa did not follow. Instead, she just casually leaned against one of the desks, eyes on the blackboard with nothing written on it.

"You guys go ahead," she said. "I want to explore a bit more."

"Khalifa?" Cauis asked, confused. However, he turned to the others and asked them not to wait for them. The others, albeit puzzled, did as they were told, glad to finally get the resources they managed to get home and then get some well-deserved rest.

The couple watched as the rest of them went away, before the bespectacled man looked at his girlfriend.

"What’s going on?" He asked, unsure what else she hoped to explore.

That was, until she used her ability to close the room and took out a uniform from her space. She looked slyly at him, making him feel hot as if fire was lit up underneath him.

Khalifa giggled, knowing full well what her effect on her men was.

"Professor…" she said, walking towards him. Her dainty finger traveled from his chin to his chest. "There’s something I wanna try."
