Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Sovereignty Aura

Alchemy stretched as she walked around. She Greeted the Verminae that were around as per usual and eventually turned her attention to the Chitin Forge.

It had a few more hours until it was finished, but the exterior was already done.

Like most of her other buildings, it had iridescent chitinous plates, which appeared to be made of iron.

The place was shaped like the exoskeleton of a beetle. Even the entrance was guarded by powerful-looking mandibles. When the building was done, Alchemy recalled that they’d automatically open and close like some sort of revolving door.

She leaped over the gate and peeked inside the building.

’It’s hot.’ She mused.

The interior was largely finished as well.

It was primarily an open area with large, elaborate contraptions that mimicked a factory: conveyors, automatic sorters, and several others. Even compared to the highly postmodern Chrysalis Forge, this was impressive.

Off to the side was a small room with an airtight door. Curiously, Alchemy opened it only to be blasted with freezing air.

The unexpected cold made her shiver furiously. She had just taken off her temperature-regulating clothes the night before.

{Goddess! Are you okay?} Asked the Granitects that were in the room.

"I’m fine. A little cold isn’t going to harm me. It was just a surprise." Alchemy hummed playfully.

"What’s all this? What would a forge need a literal freezer for?" She continued as she looked around.

Unlike the rest of the elaborate building, this segmented room had nothing in it. It was just a cold box.

{We were taking a break! We’ll get back to work right away, Mother.}

"You guys actually know how to take a break? The Sylvies need to learn from you." She sighed.

It wasn’t just the Sylvan Carvers, either. While they didn’t need rest and had infinite stamina so long as they were fed, Alchemy hadn’t seen Thornskirmishers rest either.

She kept telling them to rest more, but they always shrugged off her worries and gave her half-hearted reassurance.

"You guys are fine. You can rest as long as you need."

{Goddess is kind!}

"That being said, what’s this room? Did the frosties help with it?"

One of the Granitects nodded.

{Yes. The heat in the forge was too much, so we requested help from our sisters to increase our efficiency.}

’Right... It seems obvious now, but hot areas or climate might affect construction times due to the Verminae’s fire weakness. Inversely, offensive units can help out with construction projects..’

Alchemy couldn’t think of any units that’d greatly help with such endeavors, but she was sure it’d come up eventually.

"Fascinating. Alright, I won’t bother you any longer. Teacher should be arriving soon anyway."

With their goodbyes, Alchemy left the forge. When her bare feet once again touched the grass, she paused.

"Where is Nera?"

She rushed over to the Sylvan Carvers.

"Hey, have you guys seen Nera? My Heroes seem to keep going missing."

One of the Sylvan Carvers stopped their harvesting work briefly to turn to Alchemy.

{She returned briefly early about an hour ago before leaving again. She mentioned that the "Carvings are more complex than I initially thought."}

"She pulled an all-nighter." Alchemy grabbed her nose.

"Honestly. I’m gonna go drag th-"

{Mother. Your guest has arrived.}

"I’ll drag her back here later."

She ran in the direction of Gravana, waving as she ran.

"One moment, and I’ll be ready!" She called over, briefly stopping by her world tree.

Right away, Alchemy felt her body become significantly lighter as the tree bloomed out of the ground fully.

The beginning of the trunk could be seen, albeit still green.

"Disciple, what did you just do?" Gravana called out before Alchemy could check her new ability.

Gravana was moving around his body as he suddenly wasn’t used to it. It was much the same as when Alchemy’s stats were raised for the first time.

"Uhm... I don’t know yet, let me check!"

"Holy... System, can you exempt mercenaries and related from the debuff?"

|<Notice: Authorities can be toggled at World Tree Tier 5. Certain parts of Authorities can be disabled while leaving others enabled at Tier 7!>|

’Tier 7... 150k Divine Power just to be able to open up for trade and such properly? Scammer system.’

Tier 5 was significantly more manageable, needing only 30 thousand, but she didn’t like the thought of disabling her Authorities in their entirety. Especially not one that gives her and her units a free, permanent 30% buff.

"Okay, I figured out what I did." She said as she closed the distance between them.

"And that is?" Gravana asked curiously.

"The System gave me a really funny effect that makes my people stronger and anybody who isn’t my people weaker. I asked the system if you could be exempt, but it said no."

"What? And next, you’re going to tell me that your new garments are also from the system?"
