Chapter 40: Evolve!

Flashback

"I want to work with you." Darius pointed a chicken bone to Theo, he stared at him with a smile on his face.

Theo looked surprised, he didn’t know what was going through Darius’s mind or what made him say that.

"If I may ask, why?" Theo was watching Darius wave for his sixth plate of chicken breasts, he was calm because he knew he could cover the bill, or they would be working part-time there to cover what the monster in front of him had consumed.

"Why?" Darius was still stuffing his face, but he managed to gulp down a mouthful. After he swallowed, he began talking. "Because I want to work with someone who doesn’t want to be treated like a god."

"I want to get stronger and protect my comrades, not command attention."

Flashback ends

’I need to get stronger to make sure that I give that traitorous bastard a taste of his medicine!’ Darius still had Nathan at the back of his mind, he knew that if he were going to be able to take him down, he would also have to prepare for war.

{Notice! Training Ground Ready!}

Darius had a smile on his face, he was waiting for it to get ready so he would see what they were going to give him. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"So, it is time for me to crack my bones!" He had a smile on his face; he was ready to rumble with anything they would give him, and he was going to do it to make sure he was going to get stronger for the next big boss like Slav he was going to face.

"Take me to the training ground!" Darius slipped on his glove, adjusting his grip. His black tee clung to his frame as he prepared. He waited as the system teleported him to another dimension; it was similar to when he was getting the penalty.

{Training Time: 30 minutes! Defeat The Golems!}

"Golems, how is that meant to be challenging?" Darius readied himself for the golems, he saw them take form. They were coming close to him, they were walking strangely.

The golems lunged forward, their massive limbs crashing into the ground where Darius had stood seconds before. The impact sent a shockwave through the floor.

Luckily, Darius had stepped back. He lunged forward, delivering a devastating punch, only to feel his fist sink into the golem’s body. It didn’t shatter; rather, it absorbed the force.

"What in the world?!" Darius, before he could step back, was struck on the chin with a club by one of the golems, sending him back a few feet.

Darius sprung up and looked at the golems. He didn’t know what happened, but he was certain that he had hit that golem with his strongest blow, but somehow it managed to absorb it.

"What is going on?" Darius narrowed his eyes, analyzing the golems’ unexpected resilience.

’These Golems are not designed to shatter when they are hit with brute force. Some will respond to brute force, and some will respond with mana-based attacks like your skills.’ Azree filled him in.

Darius studied the golems, a grin spreading across his face. He had never imagined training would be this exciting!

"Now we’re talking!" Darius pulled out the Red cobra blade and took his stance. He knew he was going to need his pure logical thinking to make sure that he was going to survive this place.

{Special Skill: Dominion Over Matter Activated!}

Darius used the force from the skill to push the golems down, trying to see the ones who would resist it. The golems fell to the floor, but three of them stood up and dashed for Darius.

’Gotcha!’ Darius dashed for them too, he cut them down with the red cobra blade. He was fast with the sword, he was trying his best to refine his skills on his own.

Once he had taken care of the three golems, he jumped into the air, turning to the golems he had pinned down with skill.

{Dragonic Blast Activated!}

Darius let out his sonokinetic attack, shattering the golems in an instant. He landed in the rubble, he had an odd look on his face.

"Is it over?" Darius was looking around when he couldn’t see the golems.

{Phase 2 Begin!}

Two massive golems—eight feet tall—formed before him. He grinned. He didn’t know what they were capable of, but he was ready to take them down.

Darius took a stance, thrilled that he was going to be able to win the fight like before. "Now that’s what I am talking about. Let’s go..."

Before Darius could finish talking, one of the golems was right in front of him, it moved at the same speed as Darius. Darius crossed his arm, trying to block any blow the golem was going to deliver.

And he did deliver a deadly punch that sent Darius crashing into a wall. Darius got up, trying to move for the golem, until he felt an external force pushing him down to the floor.

’Don’t tell me it’s what I am thinking!’ Darius looked up to see the other golem making a crushing gesture with its hand. Darius didn’t need Azree’s explanation; he knew what was going on and how it was going to end for him if he was not careful.

{Dragon’s Glare Activated!}

Darius managed to shatter the invisible force holding him down, the golem had been using Dominion Over Matter, his own skill against him. Worse, it wielded it with terrifying efficiency.

’In this phase, the two golems are stronger than the others you faced. One possesses your physical prowess, and one can use it exactly how you are meant to use it. The other can use any mana-based skill you use on it. But it can use it 6% better than you.’ Azree explained.

Darius’s eyes locked on the golems. pulled out his red cobra blade, readied his stance.

’So it’s more like fighting myself, huh? I can do that.’ Darius dashed for the first golem, who used his speed against him. Using the blade, he shattered the golem into pieces.

He then gave the other golem a deadly blow, but he found out that it used his new skill -Harden- to protect itself from him.

’What in the world?! I thought you said it’s only using skills I have used!’ Darius was shocked; he took his balance looking at the golem.

’Once the golem analyzes your skills, it can use anyone in your arsenal. Both the golems," Azree said, prompting Darius to look back, seeing that the other golem was regenerating.

’The training is simple, Darius. Defeat your own abilities. Evolve!’
