Chapter 45: Visions Of Chaos

"You look tired, Big Brother. What have you been doing?" Lena stared at Darius. he had not cleaned himself up after the training, and she was looking at him, seeing his battered clothes.

Darius looked down to see his clothes all torn up, he hadn’t noticed.

"Oh, I was training. Now I need to get freshened up so I can make you lunch." he scratched his head, giving her a weird smile.

Darius walked closer to Lena and patted her head. He leaned in, still smiling.

Lena pushed his hand off her head in a playful manner. For a split second, she caught something in his eyes—something heavy, something tired. But before she could say anything, he grinned and ruffled her hair again, as if nothing was wrong.

"I have to get stronger so no one would be able to hurt my little troll." Darius had a smile on his face.

"Stop calling me little troll, big ogre." Lena shook his hand off and began pushing him to his room. "Go change those clothes so you can make lunch."

"Eh?! So I’m just a meal ticket to you now?! What a cruel way to treat your beloved big brother!" Darius yelled as he dramatically entered his room. He couldn’t hide his smile as he picked up a cloth there.

Suddenly, Darius felt a sharp pain in his head, he fell to his knees. He held his head as the excruciating pain kept ringing like a bell in his head.

When Darius raised his head, he saw himself in what looked like a labyrinth of shadows. He looked around, trying to figure out where he was standing, and he couldn’t see anything.

Then, in front of him, he saw words scribbled there in dark purple flame. It read;

’For he whom the power was given, you shall walk the path to prove your worthiness. Walk the path of unstoppable forces and become the Dragon Marshal!’

’What is all this?’ Darius couldn’t move or breathe properly. Suddenly, he felt something out of the ordinary. He slowly turned, and he could see seven towering beings looking at him. They were massive statue-like creatures; their eyes glowed with an eerie white color, and their presence alone was enough to make the entire space around them distort.

’What in the world is this?!’ Darius was looking at them, they seemed to have their focus on him.

’Azree! Azree! Help me!’ Darius called out for Azree, he wasn’t sure what was going on or how he was going to make it out of the place.

As Darius paid more attention, he could see that in front of those beings stood another seven beings that seemed to be dressed in armor. Darius didn’t know what was going on, but the immense pressure from the beings was pushing him down to the ground.

Grasping for breath, Darius did everything in his power not to pass out, he held his chest as he could feel his heart pounding fast, his entire body drenched in sweat.

"Child chosen by evil powers of chaos- You will fall!"

"The balance of the world will not be disrupted by your existence or that evil within you!"

"Even if you choose to walk the path- only death awaits you!"

A voice echoed through the darkness. Darius couldn’t even look up; his entire body was covered in sweat, and he was engulfed in fear.

Darius looked up again, and this time, he could see something other than darkness. He could see the form which the seven beings had taken, it was beyond what his human brain could comprehend.

The first seemed to be dressed in a robe of molten lava, its eyes hollowed out with a bright red flame. The second was covered in an endless ocean; its presence seemed calm but lurked with uncertainty. The third appeared to be a storm with three heads, roaring across the vast ocean. The fourth looked like the untamed northern wind, ice cold and freezing anything in its path.

The fifth had mountains surrounding it, vast islands and terrains; his presence alone commanded authority and power.

The sixth was covered in a robe of stars; looking at it to Darius felt like looking into a galaxy.

The last was pitch black, empty, and endless darkness.

’What is going on?’ Darius held his head, he didn’t know what was going to happen to him. He looked at the other seven beings standing in front of him, and he could see that they were knights, each of them holding a different weapon from the other.

"This Trial Will Be Your End!"

Darius bowed down in fear, his heart raced endlessly as he fought to breath. He could only cling to the hope that he wouldn’t die there.

The knight of the first being moved closer to Darius, and each step he took felt like the sun was coming close to Darius.

Standing in front of Darius, it spoke. "You Are Not Worthy!"

’Please, no! Please no! No! No!’ Darius, cowering in fear, couldn’t do anything but wait for his end, his soul bitter that he couldn’t do anything to fight back.

"Big brother! Big brother!"

Darius looked up again, he was back in his room. Lena was there holding him, her eyes filled with tears.

The moment she saw Darius looking at her, she threw her arms around him, hugging him.

"You’re okay! I am so glad! I thought I lost you." Lena was holding Darius tightly, she was not going to let him go after what she had seen.

Darius, still trying to breathe, couldn’t do anything but fall into his sister’s embrace. He couldn’t even think straight, for what he had seen was not of their world.

Lena sobbed uncontrollably, her wails snapped Darius to reality as he placed his arm around her. Trying to console her was all he could do at the moment.

"Don’t cry, I’m here. I’m here." Darius tried to calm her down, but his mind still harboured one question.

’What Did He Just See?’
