Chapter 46: Trials Ahead

Darius couldn’t do anything to shift Lena; she had seen him on the floor. Motionless, her worst fear had almost come true when she thought that her brother had passed away.

Lena clung to Darius that night, not leaving him even after they had dinner. He had no choice but to make his bed cozy enough for the both of them so she wouldn’t be worried.

When Darius laid down, he noticed Lena looking at him. He smiled as he leaned in to kiss her on the forehead.

"Nothing is going to happen to me. I am fine now, and you can get some rest." Darius smiled; Lena was still looking at him, not trying to shut her eyes even for a second.

"If I sleep, then you might pass out like that again. I am not taking the risk." Lena was hellbent on watching Darius, she couldn’t bear the thought of losing the only family she had.

Darius smiled, and he turned to her. "I promise you that nothing will happen to me. When you wake up, I promise that your favorite chocolate muffins will be ready for you. So please get some sleep."

After much persuasion, Darius managed to get Lena to fall asleep. He smiled a bit before he turned back to look at the ceiling; his smile faded and his thoughts back.

’What was that place? Who were those things?’ Darius couldn’t shake it off immediately. He wanted answers, but it seemed that he was not going to be getting them.

He closed his eyes to get some rest, he thought that he would be able to get an answer by morning so he would be able to do something about the whole thing.

Darius found himself in what seemed to be a white room, but the odd thing about the room was that it didn’t have any walls and it seemed rather endless.

’Not again!’ Darius looked around, he was alarmed that he had entered yet another dimension with those beings.

"Don’t be afraid, you are in a safe place."

A familiar voice spoke from behind Darius. He turned to see a man standing there. He wore red armor, and his long white hair concealed some scars on his neck; his face was also marked by scars.

"Azree?" Darius was looking at the man as he walked closer to him.

"You can recognize my voice, I am impressed you aren’t that stupid after all." Azree smiled at him.

Darius couldn’t speak; he was silent upon noticing that Azree was here but not in the other plane when he needed him.

"Where were you?! I called out to you, but neither you nor the system did anything to help me! I was alone there in front of them beings I knew nothing of!" Darius was looking at Azree, he couldn’t control his anger.

Azree was quiet, he was looking at Darius. He looked up and took a deep breath.

"Those beings you saw were the Supreme Dragon Kings. They wanted to talk to you without an interference of any kind, so they made sure that they took you subconsciously into that judgment room of theirs."

Azree places his gaze back on Darius, looking him in the eye. "Even if I was there, I would have been able to do nothing but watch as they passed their judgment."

Darius didn’t know what he was going to say; he couldn’t even think straight. "They called me child chosen by the evil powers of chaos. What did they mean by that?"

Azree’s face was void of expressions. He lifted his hand and pointed to Darius. "The powers within you, they were talking about your abilities. You carry the powers of the Dragon god of Chaos; that is why they summoned you there."

"Dragon god?" Darius was puzzled; he knew something was truly off when he found himself in that situation. "Wait, is that why Slav said that I was chosen by the great one? What is the meaning of all this?! Why did they call me there? I didn’t do anything to bring their attention to me."

"Oh, but you did. You killed Slav the Greed." Azree was looking at Darius, he could see the shocked look on the boy’s face. "You killed one of the beings that even the Dragon Kings or the gods could touch. A mere mortal with a beating heart killed him."

Darius was confused; he didn’t know that Slav was connected to something much bigger, and he was not sure if he was going to be able to understand what was going on.

"What do they want?" He looked at Azree, he was trying to see if he would get an answer. "Why would they call me a mortal there?"

"To end the power growing in you," Azree turned to him. he was looking at Darius with an expression that would be seen as a warning of danger. "They want to make sure that you will not stand in the way of order in the realms. You are the only one who is going to be a problem for them if you keep getting stronger. So they are going to make sure that they will put you down, so Darius Winters."

Azree walked up to Darius and placed his hand on his shoulder. "Get stronger. The trials ahead are stronger than you think."

Darius looked at Azree, and he could see that he was fading away. he didn’t know what was happening. He was filled with fear.

"Azree, you’re fading away! What is happening?!" Darius was worried, trying to hold him. "No, Azree you’re dying!"

Azree had a vein popping out on his head, he gave Darius a hit on his head. "Shut up you numbskull, I am not dying. I could only use this ability twice to appear in a subconscious space that exists only for the both of us, so I used it to save you from Slav, and I knew I had to use it to talk to you about the kings. I am still going to be with you."

"Ow! You could have said it in calmer way!" Darius was holding his head, Azree was looking at him with an irritated look on his face.

He shook off the look, and he then turned to Darius. "The Kings are going to send their champions for you, I want you to make sure that you will be able to walk through and defeat them. I will guide you every step of the way."

Darius looked at Azree, he was not sure how he was going to defeat beings like that but he was going to do anything in his power to be sure nothing would take him from his sister.

He looked at Azree, he streched his hand. "Guide me then partner!"

Azree smiled as he shook his hand. "The journey of the new dragon marshal begins now!"

Darius felt a hot sensation on his right arm, he tried to look at it. He felt himself being pulled away from the room, he opened his eyes to see he was back in his own room and Lena was asleep.

He could still feel the burning sensation, he looked at his right arm and he saw another tattoo. It was one of a flaming sword and a dragon coiled around it.

’That partner is the mark of the sage on the path to become Marshal, persevere and win this battle.’ Azree chimed in.

Darius clenched his fists, his heart filled with a new flame. "I am not going to lose, even if the being is a deity!"
