Chapter 20 - Swordsmanship?

"Just two more! You can do it!" Micheal cheered me on as I neared the end of my third set of 250 push-ups.

-Thud.

"Fuck, I am exhausted," I groaned falling face-first onto the ground, "Can we take a small break?"

"Fine, 10 Minutes," He said making his way towards someplace that I did not know of.

As the sun rose over the mountains, the first day of my training weighed heavily on me. My motivation flickered, but something kept me going...

[Cmon, lose that chunk and the maidens shall be yours~]

'What fucking nonsense are you spewing?'

Dante was buzzing nearly the whole time I trained today which felt annoying. He would mock me for being overweight which he suddenly started doing today. Don't know why but what the hell can I even do about it?

[You should focus on losing that child in your belly] He sneered, his tone mixed with mocking laughter.

When did this guy become so insufferable? But whatever because of him I did not quit—I want to prove to this useless system—I mean useless guardian wrong.

[I am not useless!] He shot back.

'Yeah, right at first I thought that too but when I found out that you were not my system—It meant that you pretty much did nothing the whole time other than asking me about the game'

[I am going to prove you wrong soon] He declared.

'We will fucking see about that'

As my healthy talk with Dante continued Micheal started heading in my direction. He stopped right in front of me, his body casting a dark silhouette over me.

"Here," He said handing over a piece of paper to me.

"What's this?" I asked.

"Your diet," He said sitting down next to me, "I am cutting down your food so that you burn more calories"

"Ah, thank you,"

"Don't mention it," Micheal said cracking a smile while waving his hands dismissively.

"And also, let's start your swordsmanship training and Aura awakening,"

I simply nodded in agreement. Swordsmanship and Aura were knight's fundamentals. If one wants to become a great knight or warrior—Aura is a must-learn. It reinforces your body and allows you to do some pretty awesome stuff with it.

Aura is one's life force and will. It can only be awakened through intense meditation or harsh training. If one masters Aura they can trample armies with it which is what happens in the Ironvale war. So it is a must that I learn the aura arts.

As for swordsmanship, there are many styles the ones that would want to learn. The weapon arts of the game are inspired by many different real weapon arts such as HEMA, Kenjutsu, Wudang and much more.

It is the player's choice on what weapon arts the protagonist Raiden should pursue. He could use spears, glaives, axes and obviously swords. For mages it was wands or staves—heck you can go hand-to-hand.

It was a type of skill tree system that I, Noah could not access like a player but I could still learn them. Let's take the Alchemy tree—Here the perks related to crafting potions would be found through one can boost the quality of their potions.

To unlock such perks one must level up their tree and unlock them with points granted at each level. This is how the tree system worked in the game but now, it was not a game for me. I had to do and learn them manually.

I have to learn them will trial and error.

This means while creating some good ol' Booze I might die of a fucking explosion because I put butter instead of honey. Being the protagonist is sure easy with how Gabriel provides him with the tree—Gosh I had someone like Gabriel instead of this useless Guardian.

[Can you stop throwing a banter?]

'I would have if you were useful'

[... I am though and you will know that soon enough]

'Sure, sure.'

"Let's start," Micheal stood up and I did the same.

He tapped the ring on his finger and two wooden swords came out of them—Both were wooden longswords perfect for training a beginner.

"You see," Micheal began, "I never really learnt the Blitzfeld Swordsmanship of duel wielding,"

The source of this c𝐨ntent is freeweɓnovēl.coɱ.

"I use the bastard sword which is a one-handed sword with a thin blade and a crucifix hilt. So are you okay with learning my style?"

"Yes,"

I simply nodded. I already knew that from the game when he trained Raiden during the semester break and beat him up like a pulp. And he beats you up even more if you were a douchebag Raiden—Which I was.

I still remember the quest where I had to save a few children from bandits...You know what let's not talk about that one.

[What did you do?]

Ignoring Dante I took the wooden sword that Micheal threw towards me.

"Say, Noah what do you think swordsmanship is about?" He asked his usual cheerful tone now replaced with a serious edge.

"Technique and Footwork?" I replied but not completely sure.

"Correct," He closed his eyes as if trying to remember something, "In Duels if one has better footwork and technique. No matter how much Mana the other guy has, he won't stand a chance."

"That's how important technique and footwork is. If they are consistent, you can carve out the skin of an opponent who has far greater strength than you. Do you understand?"

"I do," I replied.

"Great," He smirked, "Then let's begin with stances,"

For the next few hours, he went into detail about the correct techniques, stances and foot placements. Things that are needed in any situation such as parrying, counter-attacking, and evading.

He showed me how to perform the techniques and also told me to do them right after to see where my weakness lies.

"Hah!" I swung the wooden sword in a vertical arc.

"No, do it again! Relax, let your body flow with the movement," Micheal said, now he was sounding like a true army commander.

I followed his instructions and trained until the sun was right above us. It was noon and time for lunch, Micheal said that for today this much should be enough as I had to do Mana training with Aunt Josephine in the evening.

He also blabbered on about drinking and having fun with the girls in the nearby tavern. But I swiftly reminded him that he had a fiancee, Lyra Von Augustin and that I will send a letter to her if he ever did any of the bullshit he mentioned.

"I won't so don't contact her! Please?" His face went into puppy mode upon hearing about his fiancee whom he truly loved so much that he rejected the 1st Princess of the Empire, Aurora Kaiserfalken Von Germainia. He might suggest flirting with other women as a joke but inside out he was a loyal man scared of his future wife.

Well, it is indeed ironic that such a devoted man won't get to marry his love. Fate is a cruel Bitch.

Knowing the sad truth I made my way towards the house. First, I would soak in a warm bath to relieve my aching muscles then eat some good food. Afterwards, I have to train my Mana control and understanding with my aunt.

The thing about Mana is the more one understands it, the more one can manipulate it. Normally, people use spells—special words used to direct and control Mana but with the Legacy of Arkana that limitation is gone—erased.

But, I don't have that legacy and unless I become a god or an angel that can use Aether—manipulating mana outside my body is unachievable for me. But I am not a God or an Angel so, I have to learn spell casting and spell creation.

"Huuu..." Exhaling a long breath, I entered the house. Upon entering a mouth-watering smell entered my nostrils, which made me salivate. It was my Aunt's cooking—she was a noble woman but she liked to do her cooking and cleaning by herself. Hence, she had no servants.

"It smells good," I mumbled to myself, a small smile tugged at my lips. Wasting no time, I headed upstairs to get a warm and relaxing bath.
