Life Of A Nobody - as a Villain-Chapter 457 : Murder is my mercy
After finishing his words, Rio floated in the sky, watching the work of art he built at his feet, while munching on some fruits to replenish his energy and heal his sore body.
In the novel, Leon is often portrayed as someone who is exceptionally special with the spear. Even though the idiot author forgot about it later and gave him a sword too.
But whatever…
Rio saw Aelthar, one of the gods known for his spear arts, and thought, why not?
Even though he was clear he'd lose, but with the system's help he could analyze and probably gather a new high ranked spear technique, so he didn't mind playing around for a few minutes.
As for the little pain and beatings, well he would've avoided them surely two years ago, but now, he was different.
"Mortal," Rio was enjoying the breeze when the rubble moved in the distance, and he heard the voice of Aelthar. "You really are shameless beyond words."
"I stopped my hand and showed you pity, and this is how you repay me."
"Don't fool yourself, dead guy." Rio sneered in response, "You fell for a trick due to your slow brain. Don't blame me, for making use of it."
"And besides, you didn't think you'd hold yourself back, save your energy to last another few years, while your soul waited for a successor, and safely pass on your legacy_ that's no way to fight."
"Did no one ever tell you that even the king of the jungle, a lion, fights even the rabbit with all his strength. __ So How Dare You, ignore Me." Rio cursed with a mocking sneer as he spit a seed in the god's direction.
There was a pause for the next few seconds, an odd unsettling silence from the god, before suddenly the rubble started shaking more and more, and wisps of nether in the air started churning and burning, turning into mist. Followed by the sound of laughter from Aelthar.
"Hahaha so that's how it is." The god said, blasting everything around him and stepping out of the ruckage.
Rio covered his eyes to avoid the scattering debris and watched a silhouette slowly standing in the flying dust.
"You've taught me a very good lesson, mortal. For that, I shall remember your name." Aelthar spoke, slowly stepping out of the fog.
Rio watched Aelthar and noticed a different glint in his eyes. Before his focus shifted downward onto his empty shoulder.
The god's entire left arm was gone.
Blasted to pieces due to the nether explosions.
You'd expect one to scream or howl in pain after losing a limb, but here he was, Aelthar, laughing over his loss.
Ro's gaze looked further down and noticed even the gourd around the god's waist was gone.
Guess that's what protected the god, otherwise who knows, how much more severe the impact of blasts might've been.
"Damn." Rio muttered, as even though he expected the after effects of nether to be extreme, he was still surprised to see something so small could hurt the god to this degree.
'I better secure a few more cards from those cultists, the next time I capture them.' He said in his heart, thinking to tie the terrorists from evil's scion in his basement and have them draw more spells.
While Rio was doing his inner monologue, Aelthar was also spouting something, but no one cared.

At least not until Rio heard his final words.
"....So now I won't hold back anymore. Even if I lose all my soul energy, even if my legacy can't find it's successor, I shall still stop you from getting it."
"No more going easy, no more thoughts and plans for the future, - from this moment on, I will show you, the wrath of God."
As Aelthar's words finished, the god's eyes shone in a celestial brilliance. His entire aura changed the atmosphere, as dark clouds rolled through the whole dungeon, changing the surrounding weather to the extremes.
Monsters all over the dungeon froze in place and then prostrated themselves on the ground. Kneeling, and begging under the might of god.
Yet the merciful light they prayed for was no more, in it's place, was wrath which descended on their bodies and disintegrated them.
Except for the survivors saved by Leon, or the followers of night who had Nyx's protection _ not a single sign of life was left in the entire dungeon.
Not just this, even the mines, the ores, the trees, _everything in the entire dungeon lost it's shining luster and soon withered and turned to dust.
As all this vitality left their bodies and flew towards Aelthar to heal his soul.
"You spoke a sunny story, one which painted yourself as a victim, but I see it now. You are no different from the man in that vision._ That thing – is what you'll become." Aelthar spoke, his words as if roar from the heavens, bringing forth divine thunder and calamity on the planet.
"So for this world, for everyone still living _ let your murder be my last act of mercy…"
Aelthar was still talking nonsense, as if high on drug, when Rio suddenly teleported right behind him and chopped his other hand with the sword.
"You talk too much." Rio said, bringing down his sword, which left a trail of starry light on it's tail.
Unlike the junk of metal he previously pulled and played around with, this time, in his hands was his main sword.
One whose sharpness could even split the soul of the god in front of him.
But the expected impact didn't sound, nor came the feeling of splitting anything.
Rio looked at the empty space in front of him and frowned, his eyes looking around for the remaining traces of the leftover god but finding nothing.
He turned on his true sight without hesitation, and as his pupils shone brighter, the world around him slowed down and he could finally see …
Clang
Rio raised his sword just in time to block the piercing thrust from the spear made of pure energy in Aelthar's hands.
The shock from their collision trying to push both of them backwards.
Yet none retreated, nor played any tricks or talked any taunts _this was real now. Their final bout.
They both fixed their feet on the ground and kept swinging their weapons with all their might.
Aelthar fully displayed the art of spear he had mastered in his life, the sharp weapon moving freely like a serpent, while Rio's sword shot straight like stars in the sky, fast, precise, and unstoppable.
In a few seconds their weapons collided almost a couple of dozen times, and only when the constant blasts of energy gathered between them and formed a ball which could explode at any moment, did they both back away from each other.
Looking at each other from afar, until the huge blast of light blocked their vengeful sights.
The dungeon quaked as they both vanished from their place and reappeared mid-air, weapons colliding with such force that the shockwave split the ground beneath them, sending razor-sharp fissures outward.
The sharp sound of 'clang' almost piercing their ears, making them deaf for anything around them.
But then again, anything around them didn't matter anymore.
Aelthar's obsession with choosing a right successor for his legacy, had become twisted in anger and changed to not letting it fall into this damned mortal's hands. While Rio simply ignored the god, and fought to finish the fight before fate pulled any tricks.
The god raised his eyes, and the sky screamed. A blinding spear of light erupted from above, crashing down like pillars of heaven.
Rio's shadow fully manifested itself into reality, laughing maniacally at heavens in the hunger of sin which formed it.
The spear fell directly onto the shadow, nailing it to the ground. Ripping a large hole where it's head should be.
But soon the same seething light started getting devoured by the insatiable gluttony who swallowed everything it touched.
"My turn. - Reverse" Rio said as his mana exploded to new highs. The mark of Nyx shining bright on his arm, visible even through his clothes, before the entire scene got shrouded in silence and pitch black darkness.
A shrill scream of gluttony echoed from his shadow, filling the air with dread as it's good food was wasted.
Before both figures, master and his shadow, charged straight at Aelthar like hungry beasts, waiting to devour the shining soul flickering bright still.
