Lingering Passion: Mr. Sutton Wants to be Your Male Lead!-Chapter 171: Pulling Apart
The restaurant was buzzing with scandal, while in Bloomwood Gardens, Stella Grant and Silas Sutton sat across from each other, listening to him talk about the messy affairs of the Sutton Family.
Silas Sutton held a half-smoked cigarette between his fingers, flicking ash into the ashtray, his expression revealing neither joy nor anger. "The feud began with that kidnapping. The main branch of the family sees me as a thorn in their side, and I see them as a thorn in mine."
Stella Grant frowned, "What happened during that kidnapping?"
Stella asked directly, Silas squinted through the smoke, "Don’t want to say."
Stella pursed her lips, altering her approach, "Are they trying to seize power from you, or are they trying to kill you?"
Silas Sutton, "Both."
Stella’s heart skipped a beat, "Does Sutton not intervene?"
Silas laughed sarcastically, extinguishing his cigarette in the ashtray. "He wants to, but unfortunately, at his age, his heart desires but he lacks the strength."
Stella, "But I see the company’s people are still quite afraid of Sutton, and you..."
Stella spoke halfway, Silas raised his eyes to interrupt her, "I’m not afraid of him, I’m repaying him for the kindness he showed me in the six years following my father’s death."
After speaking, Silas paused and added, "This year marks the sixth year."
That night, Silas didn’t go to the master bedroom.
Stella lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
As soon as she closed her eyes, she envisioned Silas sitting in the living room, speaking.
Whether it was Stella’s imagination or not, although Silas had an expressionless face, she saw heart-wrenching sadness etched on it.
Not the superficial kind, but the kind engraved deep into his bones.
Thinking about it, Stella pulled the quilt over her head.
His sadness had nothing to do with her.
She was only present here because she had been drawn into the situation, helplessly. She intended to move out as soon as things were resolved.
Regarding her ambiguous relationship with Silas, as soon as she completed a few more projects and saved enough money, she’d leave Sutton Group. She already had it all planned out; she’d open a small shop, just enough to cover meals for her and Lynn Adler.
With these thoughts, Stella drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, when Stella went downstairs, Silas was already in the dining room with his tablet.
Seeing her, Silas spoke with a low tone, "Aunt Adler, let’s eat."
Once Silas spoke, Aunt Adler responded from the kitchen, "Okay, coming right up."
Stella walked into the dining room, ignoring Silas, and headed towards the kitchen to assist Aunt Adler.
As she passed Silas, he suddenly reached out and grasped her wrist.
Stella lowered her eyes as Silas’s thumb rubbed her wrist, asking, "Did you sleep well last night?"
Stella replied, "Fair enough."
Silas looked into her eyes, his narrow gaze smiling, "Why not ask if I slept well?"
Stella pursed her lips, initially not wanting to ask, but somehow, unable to resist, she followed his lead, "Did you sleep well last night?"
Silas shook his head lightly, "No."
Stella, "..."
Silas’s voice was low and deep, "Stella Grant, I want to move back to the master bedroom, I can’t sleep well in any other bed."
Whether he couldn’t sleep well or had other motives, Stella knew clearly.
They locked eyes, Stella’s lips twitched with a smile, "Alright, I’ll move next door."
Silas’s thumb moved from her wrist to her palm, then to the tip of her pinky. "Why make it so complicated? Why not share the master bedroom?"
Stella, "Silas Sutton, I’m twenty-six years old, it’s my first time hearing someone make taking advantage sound so refined."
Silas raised an eyebrow, "First time?"
Stella sneered softly, "Indeed, it’s the first time."
Silas’s finger changed from rubbing to lightly scratching, a tickling sensation, "Mmm, I know. That day you bled, it stained my pants..."
Silas spoke slowly, as Stella realized what he was referring to, her face flushed red, leaving her speechless for a while.
As they were locked in a stalemate, Aunt Adler emerged from the kitchen with breakfast.
Stella took a deep breath, pulling her hand back from Silas’s caress.
Silas chuckled softly, returning to his tablet.
Aunt Adler, unaware of what had transpired between them, brought the breakfast to the table, smiling as she invited them to try her new dish.
Stella smiled warmly, just about to respond, when her phone suddenly rang from her pocket.
Stella reached into her pocket, pulling out her phone, and upon seeing Ms. Dunn’s call, she swiped the screen to answer, "Hello, Mrs. Dunn."
On the other end, Ms. Dunn’s voice was anxious, almost crying, "Miss Grant, please come back quickly. Just now, your aunt went to the hospital room and said something to your mom, which made her angry and faint. She’s been taken to the emergency room..."
