Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening-Chapter 106: Awakening
The creature which was slowly walking away from the motionless body of Derrick and Richard who had condensed his flames to the max and was still pushing further, the fire faintly taking a light blue shade both paused as they felt a chill run down their spine and goosebumps crawl up their body, even the man bat felt it.
Without looking, Richard could almost tell what it was. There was only one person left in the team apart from him and the was–
"What th–"
Richard muttered in pure terror as he saw something he had only ever seen a number of times since he could remember his own name.
Right there, just kneeling in the same position, Kieran who was looking defeated a moment ago now had a boodish red aura around him.
This was different from the feeling of bloodlust they usually let off, it was bloodlust so powerful and high in quality that it took on a tangible form. In this case it was the bloody red tint around him with black streaks.
Richard immediately stopped focusing on the aura. He was almost pulled in and at the last second, he swore he had seen a pair of pure white eyes, filled with malevolence appear in his head.
Those eyes expressed disappointment when they saw him gathering himself. Luckily this wasn’t the first time he had gone through something like this, but that was made him so terrified of the creature in front of him.
One that seemed to be more terrifying than the one they had been struggling against. Only his father and mentor had ever exhibited such a phenomenon in front of him.
If Richard was terrified, then the man bat like creature was petrified, soul struck as it stood there, unable to withdraw its silver eyes which had long since lost their glow while uts body continously shivered with something beyond fear.
Every instinct and cell in its body didn’t just seek to run away, they sought to vanish instantly in the presence of a higher lifeform..
"Cough!"
The creature coughed up a mouthful of black blood and its eyes widened even further. It felt like its body was trying to self-destruct of its own accord.
At the centre of all of this was Kieran who had long since blacked out, now unaware of the changes around and within him. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
The only thing he could feel faintly, giving him a sense of self was the now insatiable itch in his bones and the strong feeling that there was something around him that drew his attention.
Kieran slowly stood up, the aura around him amplifying significantly with every move he made and every bone cracking sound which accomplished his rise as him frame changed to reveal something unknown to all witnessing parties, both man and monster.
"Did he just? Is he awakening?!"
Richard muttered with an emotion even he couldn’t comprehend.
He could tell what was going on and could only attribute it to an awakening. No normal human could exhibit that level of power after all.
Even a new awakened couldn’t do a fraction of what Kieran wss currently doing just by existing and letting his power overflow.
This was by far the weirdest and most unique awakening he had ever seen.
Awakening was an ugly process that was always marked with shots of concentrated pain as they felt their body break down and reconstruct itself on a molecular level.
Their veins changed pattern, weaving new channels for energy passage, their blood got purified while their bones cracked and rearranged itself and the pain was enough to make them as kids run mad or just die. The casualty rate was still high even after all the years of human progression.
He watched as Kieran slowly stood up and his bones let out snapping and cracking sounds as they went through the process of rearrangement.
The changes that were visible after he stood up completely were lesser than expected.
His nails had elongated and taken on the form of sharp black claws which gave a metallic glint under midnight light.
He seemed to have grown taller by a few inches and leaner.
The most noticeable change was his hair which now had blood red streaks running through them and his pure black eyes with a thin golden ring in the centre.
That and the pitch black dot on his head which contrasted deeply with his pale skin.
Kieran’s eyes finally moved after a moment of stillness, moving past Richard’s figure to lock onto the man bat which still hadn’t taken a single step since.
Taking a step forward, Kieran appeared in front of the creature, moving faster than even it could comprehend.
The bat watched as Kieran steadied his hand just above where he could hear the creature’s heart beating—the center of its chest.
Slowly he drew his head back ready to pierce forward, but at that moment.
BANG!
Something crashed in that spot, and when the dust settled, a bothering scene was revealed.
In the same spot, a new man bat had appeared looking more muscular than the first one, and even underneath the moonlight, one could see how his skin bulged and his veins popped as he tired to hold back back Kieran’s hand which had already found intact way inches into the first man bated chest, slowly progressing without much issue.
Rather than slowing down his progress, it felt like Kieran was moving slower on purpose.
"What are you doing? Run!!"
The new man bat shouted, snapping the first out of the trance it had long fallen into.
The bat spat out a mouthful of blood before rapidly retreating a few meters away.
"We can’t beat that thing!"
The first bat said without looking back as it planned to run away.
Before it could leave, the second bat looked down on its arms which had been sliced off cleanly and at the gaping hole I’m its chest in confusion.
Its brain had yet to comprehend what had just happened as the pain that should have followed didn’t even register before it fell to the ground, lifeless.
THUD!
The headless body of the first bat which had tried to escape also fell down at the same time.
From the side, Richard observed as all this happened in a blur, faster than he could follow.
He blinked and two bats were dead and now Kieran was kneeling before Derrick’s body, his golden eyes fixed on the injury without any flicker of emotion.
He took his finger and used a claw to make a vertical incision directly across the black dot on his forehead. Drew the blood that flowed out of it before it closed up and painted a similar fit on Derrick’s forehead while a rune suddenly appeared on the back of his palm and started fading away, flowing into the blood dot on Derrick’s head which vanished a while later.
After this, Kieran looked around once more, before falling to the ground limply
