Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening-Chapter 108: Mirrored Perspective 1
"Arrogant and hard headed as ever. Well, at left we know that you’d be okay. For now"
’For now?’
Keiran caught onto August’s last words. What did he mean by ’for now?’
"What happened and how long was I out?"
Kieran finally asked the most important question.
"Well, long story short, you finally got the awakening you so badly wanted!"
August said, but Kieran could sense something odd about his tone that wasn’t covered by his mask.
"What is it? Isn’t that a good thing?"
"Technically? Yes. But not when it’s something that we can’t understand. We humans have always acted strangely when it came to things we couldn’t understand"
August said sending Kieran into further confusion.
"Didn’t understand? What was he even talking about’
He hated times like this when he chose to act coded and all, but there was nothing he could do, he couldn’t even move his body and his words weren’t going to make the instructor bend to his will and explain properly.
"Report to the unit building when you get discharged. Hopefully that’s very soon"
August said turning to leave and Kieran rushed to ask.
"Wait! What about Derrick?!"
"Hmm? He suffered a few hits from the creature I heard, but he was fine. You were the only one who came in limp."
August said in a suspicious tone as his eyes narrowed at Kieran’s question and the emotion he had sensed in them.
Fortunately, Kieran’s stone cold expression betrayed none of his internal shock and turmoil.
He had clearly seen the creature drop the lifeless body of Derrick to the ground before he blacked out and now he was alive and well all of a sudden?
There was something he was missing and it must have happened while he was unconscious.
He had even awakened? How? He had been told that the awakening process was something that was extremely painful and even left them either phantom pain a while after the process was over, but he had just passed through the process without any recollection of what it entailed and how it happened.
’Hmmm.... I’d have to talk to him then!’
There was only one person who would have witnessed everything that happened and could give an accurate account of what had happened.
Kieran would’ve preferred to fight him at any moment, because approaching and having a conversation with him felt so hard that Kieran felt like giving up, but he couldn’t. He had to know what exactly had happened and how Derrick who was supposed to be dead wes suddenly back on his two feet and considered "okay or healthy"
Only Richard could’ve come up with a way to convince anc cover for the incident.
August’s footsteps disappeared along with another; he hadn’t gotten the chance to hear the person’s voice.
"How long was I out?."
He asked the warden who remained in the room and 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"about 4 days."
"...."
He had nothing to say to that. He had spent more time than that in the infirmary in a single go, but it was the first time he had been out that long.
’Accustomed to my body huh?’
Kieran’s eyes flashed thinking back to the words of the man in the white coat.
If getting familiar with his body was the issue, he knew something that might just solve the problem.
The first part of the Lost Origins which he had been practicing for a while was based on this concept after all.
Closing his eyes, Kieran slowly changed his breathing pattern as he focused his kind and pushed his concentration to the max.
Having done this several times in the past, it didn’t take long before he got into the required state and he could finally feel a mental image appearing in his mind.
It was incomplete, but he knew what he had to do.
This was how the first part of the technique had manifested in him—as a mini model of himself down from the bones, to the muscles and the veins, energy pathways, to the creases on skin and hairs on his head.
He had to reconstruct the mental image to match himself perfectly. Then he would’ve passed the first part when it came to knowing himself. There was still the part that required him to understand his subconscious actions that came as a result of his thoughts and those that came purely from his body.
Then he would have to eliminate the wrong habits and let his body lead him and show him the way back to its origin.
For some reason Kieran had never been able to go past that point despite having identified the moves his body made on its own accord.
Fortunately he didn’t have to deal with that just yet, first he had to pay attention and rebuild the mental image perfectly.
Now that he was in the right state. He could feel his bones and the structure appeared on his mind almost instantly.
’Hmm?’
Kieran paused, his brows furrowed a little as he discovered something that left him surprised.
The bulk of energy that used to flow freely within his body was nowhere to be seen anymore, it had completely disappeared.
Kieran looked at the mental image of his skeleton in his mind and noticed something off about it.
It looked like it was missing something that would bring it to life.
Looking within himself again. This time more carefully, Kieran stumbled against a small rune on his spine. Seeing the rule and feeling the energy it silently gave off, Kieran smiled.
This definitely wasn’t what he expected.
Carefully memorizing the rune and adding this missing detail to the mental model in his mind, a wave suddenly went through his head and the skeleton finally looked like it had some life to it and he could feel the power it radiated.
The new rune that had just appeared was a sign that he had somehow successfully absorbed all the energy from the godzilla like creature that was flowing in his body.
He couldn’t explain how he knew that, but he just knew that after seeing the marking and feeling the familiar aura radiating from it subtly, mixed deeply with his.
That was the thing about Lost Origins. There was no set rulebook on how exactly things were supposed to happen. He just knew when it did
