Chapter 129: Factory line

"This one quite good!"

Lucian’s fingers typed away on the terminal, accessing the research records using Lucas’s authority.

He had an extremely high position here, identified as the head scientist. Not just here, but in the entire organization which was behind the not so recent events that had been happening.

He took a glance at the man who laid limp on the floor, foam coming out of his mouth. He had long since stopped screaming, now he just become a vegetable and his eyes were totally blank.

There was no way back for him. He was totally gone.

Whoever supported him clearly didn’t underestimate his importance as they literally provided him with all their resources, and Lucas showed them exactly why he was that respected while he was still in the capital.

With resources incomparable to that which he had at the capital and with less assistance, he had managed to take their research several years forward, being the sole person behind most of their breakthroughs.

His position as the head researcher wasn’t undeserved. He was truly talented. Unfortunately, he had gone down the wrong path.

’Why was someone like him here of all places? C-6 is quite far from the place he should have adopted as home’

Lucian wondered why someone as important as Lucas would venture to a place like C-6 which was quite far from D-6, the suspected headquarters.

He must have been been foolish if he did that because he thought he had made the capital give up on the quest for his head.

That or there was something eye catching and irresistible enough for him to come out despite the roaming eyes of the capital.

"I see..."

His question was answered a few moments later when he came across a file documenting Lucas’s works so far.

The respected scientist had reached a roadblock whatever area he had been reaserching. The supplies he had requested weren’t something that could be procured easily. Even if they had the resources to get them, it was immensely hard to ship such high grade materials and equipment without catching the eyes of the capital.

Bored, the researcher had taken interest in the operations of this base. Biomodifications.

Something he later deemed as necessary practice for him. Something that could help when he resumed his previous project.

"Who knew people like him kept tabs!"

Lucian commented on the researcher’s habit of keeping logs, daily logs.

He recorded how irritated he felt with the reply his sponsors had given him when he asked for the extra materials.

Lucian’s cold eyes narrowed, spotting something he had hoped to come across somehow.

<Let’s just hope the Galacticous guys make it accordingly to my specifications!>

<This is shit! They should have tried harder to convince the Zexters. They’re far better at jobs like this!>

Lucian’s eyes darkened reading the second entry. He had finally gotten his first solid proof that his suspicion was right—Galactious were involved in this one way or another.

What he didn’t expect though was the mention of his family. The Zexters were the only organization that was advanced and big enough to face off with Galacticous.

Lucas’s words implied that his family had been met with the same it similar offer as with Galacticous, but had refused. It also seemed like they were the first choice too.

He should have been relived that his family had no clear connection to whatever was going on, and had even seemed to make it clear to them that they wanted nothing to do with these people, but Lucian had a feeling of unease going through his chest.

Pushing that aside, he skimmed across the remaining pages of the Lucas’s diary like record.

’Not enough!’

The records spanned from years before he had left the capital. There was nowhere enough time to react through the contents.

Lucian made the quickest decision to copy the contents along with some other sensitive research information, but as expected, there was a security system in place.

’Well this is easy!’

A rather slack one than he expected, probably because Lucas had thought a more advanced system would’ve been too much of a hassle.

Lucian glanced at the body of the man below, the fingers and head to particular.

A few minutes and a couple of blood stained saws and medical equipment later, Lucian managed to get through the verifications needed and copied the files successfully.

It was time for him to move. But how could he forget...

"My prize!"

He grabbed Lucas’s mutilated body by the head and brought his flames coated hand to his neck, carefully cutting through in one clean strike.

The skin and bones in between just turned to ashes as his hand pushed through.

"This should do well to calm them down a little!"

He muttered storing the head in his bracelet. That was going to keep it preserved till he was ready to hand it over headquarters.

He had to leave here before anyone came over in search of their dead head researcher. He hadn’t spotted or sensed any cameras in the room either, but he couldn’t be too sure.

"Finally!"

His glanced at the bracelet on his wrist, tapping it twice and a holographic image appeared showing a wide map with several spots marked red.

E6 had finally completed what he asked of him. The exits available in the place.

When asked previously, the man had given a simple answer—there was only one exist, and that was the entrance.

Lucian though, refused to belive that and forced the man to go looking while mapping out the base as much as he could without getting caught.

And just as he had thought, there were several exists available as indicated by the red spots, but E6 hadn’t manged to make the map as detailed as he wanted.

Most likely to avoid getting caught, because the details of the map went from very detailed at the edges to almost no detail at the centre of the map, a place where he believed only high ranking officials had access to.

"This is huge!"

Lucian muttered looking at the size of the facility.

The whole place was too big for him to do what he wanted; burn it down all at once.

He had to at least leave his current position first and head towards the part where he could cause the most damage to them, but whoever had planned this place had a serious problem.

The sections were so far apart. This lab was one of Lucas’s several labs around the facility, quite close to the prison they had held him in.

But the research was actually conducted in the central area of the facility and the experimented humans were kept in another place at the other end of the facility, opposite where he had been held. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Only those who were considered ’failed’ test subjects that had managed to survive without any drastic, violent changes were returned to the cell section where they held fresh human subjects.

"I’ll go to the research centre first!"

As always, Lucian thought of getting the most important job done first, before moving on to other things, and in this case that was their research.

He didn’t plan on gathering anything as evidence, what he had gotten from Lucas’s journal was more than enough. Anything else like the detailed research information was too dangerous to share in his opinion. Even for the D.R.I, the body responsible for things like this.

The best thing to do was to destroy the information and wipe off any backups they had. Lucian wasn’t going to risk handing over his findings just for another group within the system to get their hands on it and continue from where these bastards stopped.

Before leaving, he attached another chip to the side of his head, altering his appearance once more. And he went ahead to keep Lucas’s palm he had cut of earlier along with the identification pass that was on his body.

He also didn’t forget the chip that made his figure invisible to normal onlookers or at least the watching cameras the moment he stepped out.

With the help of the map, it didn’t take long till he got to the central part of the facility, easily getting through any automated checkpoint with Lucas’s identification pass. He had like high level access to every single part of the facility.

"Hmmm..."

Now that he was in, he could feel the presence of several high leveled awakened. The same ones his new acquaintance back in the cell had warned him about.

He had to avoid those people as much as possible, as they could easily see through his invisibility, sensing his presence in front of them.

With this in mind, Lucian threaded the dark hallways carefully, turning around the moment he felt one of those presences heading towards his direction. And with a couple of unexpected turns, he arrived at a wide open area.

’Bingo!’

Lucian thought, looking at the numerous men and women in lab coats walking around with data pads in front of them.

The space was very huge, more like an open lab, where he spotted some fresh humans being brought in to a corner of the place where some others had been placed into tubes of dark green liquid.

At the other end of the lab were another series of tubes, but containing monsters like the one he had faced in the streets some days ago.

It was like a factory line. Lucian stood in place watching how the production was done. How they sliced into each human they put on their table and went ahead to replace some organs with beast parts, while injecting them with some unknown substances.

’This has to end!’

Lucian thought with a freezing expression.
