Chapter 164: Crazed

"No need to be on edge, I’m just walking around!"

Jessie said, avoiding the eyes of the soldiers on the other side as he strolled round the edge of the space.

"You should keep your body in if you don’t a monster jumping in your face."

The soldiers retracted thier gaze and looked away to the other group where the other three teammates sat together.

It had been about an hour since the captain and the soldiers went on ti the otherside of the fog to complete their objective. An hour was enough time for silence to take join them, reigning supreme amongst them all.

The change in the space was the flickering flame in the circle of the soldiers keeping the cold of the night away from them.

Speaking of that, it was indeed cold and the silence only seemed to enhance that thoughts in the mind of Orion and his teammates.

They had been offered the comfort of the flames by the soldiers, but Orion had turned down the offer before any other person on the team could speak up.

Now, Jessie who had endured the cold as much as he could while sitting in a single spot had taken to his feet, wandering around the edge of the space, while kicking up some soil with his feet. Actions which gained him looks from the small group of soldiers.

Looks his boredom couldn’t be bothered to care about.

"You wouldn’t mind if I accepted the offer from earlier, right?"

His voice complimented the silence, his feet having taken him to the other side of the space where the soldiers sat, surrounding the flame which burned from a cannister they had placed on the ground.

"I come in peace!"

He added with a wide smile and closed eyes.

"Who offers peace while holding a weapon?"

One of older soldiers among them, looking to be in his thirties said in a gruff voice.

"Keep it sheathed if you wanna have a sit."

The soldier said, his hands still extended towards the flame.

"Oh, this is just in case a monster comes in something. Wouldn’t hurt to be on alert right?"

Jessie said, taking a step closer to them. The warm of the flames was starting to reach him and he could feel is cells groam in yearning for warmth.

"That’s as far as you go, kid."

"The weapon!"

CLICK!

The eyes of Orion and his team raised to the scene, and the silence shifted into something more dignified.

CRUNCH!

The silence was loud and the sound of the older soldier biting into what could have been a snack was louder.

Each bite he took was like the tick of a bomb and the space remained still till took the last bite, after which he finally looked up towards Jessie.

"Isn’t this a little extreme?"

Jessie said, shifting his head back slightly, away from the cold tip of the gun aimed right at him.

He hadn’t even realized when the soldiers got so close, catching him unprepared.

The middle ages soldier waved which seemed to be in command, waved his hand lightly and the two guns resting lightly on his body retreated a little, still trained on him.

"Sigh. Don’t play with me kid."

The man said, getting to his feet, but eyes had found themselves everywhere but on Jessie.

They had found themselves on Orion who spectated the events in complete silence, unmoved by the current state of his teammate.

His eyes mirrored the silence around them – unreadable.

"The instructions were to stay put till they came back. It wasn’t that hard was it?"

"Then again, I wasn’t placed here it didn’t see this coming, I honestly wished you all just stayed put."

The man said, walking a little bit past Jessie.

"What do you mean? He only asked not to feel cold."

Orion said in a steady tone.

"Sigh, why don’t we just drop the farce."

The soldiers voice was the last stroke in the painting the tension had drawn in the space between the two teams.

"Fine then!"

He said, his eye twitching almost as if in a struggle, but that barely lasted as he turned around, and the faces of Lira and Alex morphed under the influence of several emotions.

Shock, disbelief, pain, anger, hatred.

These emotions flashed across their faces, getting progressively negative, yet these emotions seemed to avoid Orion who had an unchanged expression as the image of Jessie’s head flying into the sky mirrored itself in his eyes, the trail of blood that followed, painting a gruesome canvas in the air before splattering to the ground, becoming indistinguishable from it under the dark sky.

"NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

"JESSIEEEEE, YOU BASTARD!!!!!"

The screams of Lira and Alex was finally registered as the fall of their teammates body brought an end to the reign of silence that had established itself all night.

"Ahhh!"

"Does this still look like a joke, kid?"

The soldier said, turning around.

His eyes and facial expression showed how unmoved he was by the cries and wailing of Lira and Alex, wiping his hand off his face which did nothing but smear the droplets of blood further on his face.

Orions eyes had gained some hardness to them, he wasn’t completely stoic to the current situation, but whatever he was feeling and thinking was kept unknown.

The middle aged soldier with wips of white hair didn’t get the chance to get a reply before he was faced with a dagger begging desperately to kiss his throat.

"YOOUU MAD MANNN!!!"

The whites of Lira’s eyes had reddened to the max, snaked with veins ss she pushed her self further, seeking to behead the soldier in the same fashion as he had done with Jessie — fast, unseen, instantaneously. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"Well, this is one hell of a joke, considering that you look like the mad one."

The man said, grasping her hand tightly in his without much of a struggle.

Lira wasn’t giving up yet though.

Ignoring the pain that came from her grasped hand, she shot forward with another dagger, desperate, angry, uncaring – like a mad man.

"GET YOUR HANDS OFF HERR!!!"

Another crazed scream came from Alex who was also running in like a crazed beast, the moment he saw The soldier crushing the hand of Lira in his fist.

He never got the chance to get close enough though as two out of the three observing soldiers came forth to intercept him and prevent him from getting and closer.

Chaos had made its presence known to them yet Orion watched on from the sidelines, staying uninvolved. It didn’t take long for disinterest to appear on his eyes as he watched the fight, or rather the suppression of his teammates, if their relationship could be regarded as that at this point.

His attention quickly switched back to the limp body of Jessie whose head had rolled quite far away.

"Well, that was a rather inconvenient waste"

Slight irritation broke through his expressionless face for a moment.

"Do you really not care if I cut them down?"

The lead soldier’s voice reached him again and he looked up to see Lira and Alex in a situation he had already foreseen the moment they jumped in with nothing but the attitude of crazy dogs.

’I don’t think I can afford to lose these ones too. Im grateful someone named to silence that one but, I really can’t make things tougher for myself.’

Sigh.

A small sigh escaped his mouth, his fingers pinching the small of his forehead at the precarious position he had found himself in.

"I have no choice then."

He muttered accepting that there was nothing he could do. He had stayed his hand, wanting to understand how the soldiers who clearly weren’t awkward managed what they had right in front of him, but now he had to make a move.

"I suggest you hand them over"

Orion said taking a few steps forward.

"You really don’t get it, do you, kid?"

The man shook his head slightly and faced Lira whom he held down by the head.

Her struggles were intense and the light her eyes was burning. He raised his hand up, revealing a dagger he had stripped off from her and brought down his arm in a descending motion towards her neck.

CLANG!

The sound of metal striking metal resounded clearly, as looked up to the figure whose shadow wss projected onto her face.

Orion had stepped in between them, holding the dagger tightly within his hand which was now covered with a gauntlet.

"Ughh!"

"Ugh!"

Grunts escaped as the man struggled to withdraw the daggers from Orion’s grasp.

"This was never a joke, but I happen to be quite curious. Tell me, how is it that a non awakened soldier like you managed to strike with that much force."

Orion said and the soldier’s eyes widened before jumping back and retreating rapidly, causing Orion to tilt his head in amusement. He hadn’t made any moves at all.

’What was that?’

The middle aged soldier thought, feeling his heart race through his chest. An overwhelming feeling of dread had washer over him back there and his brain processed why when he saw the faint glimmer around Orion’s other fist.

"Let’s start then."

Orion said with a small smile, moving forward with measured steps.

"NOW!!!"

The lead soldier yelled at the top of his lungs and the only soldier who hadn’t made a move all this while, flashed, his figure bolting towards in the direction of the fog.
