Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening-Chapter 52: Techniques
After assigning color to both all of them, the first thing he noticed were the lack of high level techniques, the place was filled mainly with low level and a few mid level techniques. He only managed to see one yellow color standing out, which meant just one high level technique.
Ignoring the low level ones, he selected all the mid-level ones he could find and set them in front of him.
After the war, when humans were transitioning and adapting to the huge technological boost, some parts of the old world fell off. Martial arts were one of those old parts.
When they later realized the use of the martial arts and old combat techniques, they were unable to restore its full heritage.
The scythe was a weapon that wasn’t commonly used even in the old world, that made it almost impossible to get enough materials to master the weapon.
Even worse, because of this, any of its techniques that were found were taken out for a high price by the collectors because of its rarity.
This and many other reasons made people regard the scythe as a weapon that was impossible to master. No matter how hard one searched, they would get to a stage where there were no techniques for them to practice. The path of the scythe was incomplete unlike the path of the other weapons.
This affected not only the scythe, but other weapons which were either scarcely used back in the days or the ones whose techniques and history were completely lost during the transition or were barely recovered. These weapons were known as the forbidden weapons because they had been deemed impossible to master and a waste of time, the scythe was also one of them.
If one wanted to progress past that level, they would have to forge a new path for themselves and that had never happened.
Forging a path was even harder than mastering a lvl 9 high-grade technique. Even worse was that, the forged path might not even compare to a path that gad been tested and was accepted by everyone.
The obvious disadvantage had made people’s stir away from this road. Those who had happened to pick the scythe as a weapon and later reached this blockade mostly chose to trash all their hard work and restart with another weapon.
Kieran remembered all this that Ruby had told him when he informed her of his weapon of choice, even Jake had given hints for him to abandon the weapon early on, but he ignored all that.
He was one to follow his heart and he would always follow it to the end. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Staring at the five techniques in front of him, Kieran noticed that they were all of low quality.
Just like every other thing that was graded, techniques after being separated into low-level, mid-level and high-level were further separated in each level into 9, based on the quality of the technique.
The basic technique that he had practiced with the aid of Ruby could be marked as a level 7 low-grade technique after he modified it to suit him better.
Of the five in front of him, none of them were above the 7th level.
"Let’s check it out first" he sighed and proceeded to read the info on the five techniques
<Name: Silent wind>
<Grade: Mid-grade>
<Level: level 7>
<Info: This is a technique for those who wish to walk the silent path of the scythe....>
After Kieran finished reading the information on the first technique, he knew that it wasn’t for him. ’Silent path of the scythe’ the creator wrote was explained later as the path of those were into assassination or stealth and chose the scythe as their weapon. Kieran on the other hand had a more direct battle style, so the technique wasn’t suited for him. Still it had to be strong for a mid-grade technique for the camp to rate it as a level 7 technique
Picking up the second technique, he read though;
<Name: Dreamreaper’s Dance>
<Grade: Mid-grade>
<Level: level 5>
<Info: A sneaky scythe move that’s like a whispered secret. It’s about tricky swings and shadowy vibes, making your opponent wonder what’s coming next. Master this, and you’ll be the one calling the shots!>
The description of the technique was sketchier than the last, it made it seem bigger than it actually was. It sounded like more than what a level 5, mid grade technique could offer.
Dropping it to the side, he picked up third technique.
<Name: Spectral Slice>
<Grade: Mid-grade>
<Level: level 3>
<Info: A spooky scythe swing that’s like a ghostly whisper. it’s a quick, eerie slash that seems to come out of nowhere, leaving your opponent wondering if they really got hit. Master this and you’d be the one making your foes question reality>
One could tell that the description of the technique was exaggerated after seeing that it was just at level 3.
’Probably has something to do with phantom attacks’ Kieran thought, dropping the scroll of to the side.
The description made mention of stuffs like ghosts and confusing the enemy, so Kieran assumed it had something to do with feints and phantom attacks. An assumption he didn’t even know was 100 percent correct.
Looking at the remaining two techniques, Kieran didn’t feel the urge to check them out. Something told him that they wouldn’t be much different from the other three he had just checked and truly, he was right on point. They were just as bad as the other three, also with exaggerated descriptions.
"There’s no way he asked me to come here just for this!" Kieran muttered, at a loss.
He was starting to consider leaving empty handed after realizing that all the techniques he had checked so far either didn’t suit him or were too weak before his eyes lit up as he realized something.
All the techniques except the only high grade one was things he was cleared to purchase and the instructor lent him his authority which meant there was a technique here that he didn’t have enough clearance to purchase.
Immediately he went towards the only technique that shone yellow, the only high grade techniques in the space the weapon.
Picking it up, Kieran, used the authority lent to him to access the information and what he saw was rather strange.
<Name: Lost Origins>
<Grade: ???? >
<Level: ???? >
<Info: This technique isn’t a monotone one like the like the others. To call it a technique would be wrong. It’s a method that allows whoever was unlucky enough to pick a forbidden weapon to forge a path suited for them, just like I did. All you need to have is a solid foundation which you will build upon.
The journey is slow and treacherous, but if you want to master the weapon, you have to at least have some patience and trust the process. That is the second requirement.
The other requirements are up to you. Whether you make it out with a shitty technique like the others who tried to forge a path or you make a technique that make others want to follow in your steps. That is up to the practitioner. >
That was all that could be seen without purchase the technique. The note dropped by the creator intrigued Kieran. The technique wasn’t specifically made for the scythe and the maker implied that it could be applied to any forbidden weapon.
That was an extremely bold claim. Saying that he had created a technique that could allow one to successfully forge a new path with a forbidden weapon, and with that much confidence..! Kieran didn’t know what to think of it.
The fact that it wasn’t locked up and made available only to a select few made it obvious that they must have tried it and come to the conclusion that it was shit! Despite this Kieran still considered it.
’Strange name. Lost Origins!" Kieran pondered about the name of the technique. That was the only other thing available apart from the note of the maker.
Looking around the shelves that were littered roughly with low level and grade techniques. He made up his mind!
’Alright!’
Staring at the price of the technique, he felt a small jolt of shock.
’What is this?!’
<3000CP>
To him, this was an outrageous amount for a technique that left whoever wanted to practice it in doubt. Even after working in the kitchen for four months he had only accumulated around 4000CP with all the bonuses he got from being a top ranked and a level 9 recruit, that amount went up to 6000CP which would make a rich man I’m the eyes of the others.
But now his savings was about to be split in half because of a risky technique that wasn’t even meant to be in that section, he was literally gambling and Kieran wasn’t a fan of gambling.
Gritting his teeth. He pressed the buy button and instantly saw his account deflate substantially. For the first time, he felt a sense of loss he didn’t know existed.
He chose to gamble not on the technique, but on the instructor’s intentions towards him.
