Chapter 53: Lost Origins

After that, all the business he had in the hall was done. The technique was instantly sent to his watch the moment he payed for it.

It was encrypted so there was no way he could send it out to someone else, except through oral speech and if he was caught, a hefty punishment awaited him and anyone who tried such. The camp held its techniques and resources very close to heart.

’Let’s check if I was wrong after all’ Kieran thought after he got to his room, about to go through the technique he had just purchased.

After a few minutes of reading it, Kieran closed the file and went deep into thought. He was truly conflicted.

Just like the creator said in the note he left behind, if he followed this method, the outcome; whether he ended up forging a path that was worthwhile or whether he ended up creating trash was up to him since he was going to make movements he thought would fit him perfectly.

Anyone who wanted to truly make something worthwhile with this method had to know the deepest secrets of their body, their subconsciously habits in battle and off battle. Their tendencies and much more. Even their personalities were factored in.

The technique was divided into several parts; one with body, Zen state, Inner melody, outer melody, Still well, Path to Origin.

Apart from the first stage which Kieran understood as getting to understand the mysteries of one’s body, he had no clue what the rest meant even after reading through them.

How one could discover all these and try to make a self tailored technique was what was described in the manual he had just spent 3000CP on.

Despite all the signs pointing to the fact that he made a good choice, Kieran didn’t doubt fir a second how hard it would be to achieve. It was even mentioned in the manual that for some, even after a life time of dedicated effort and trials, they wouldn’t be able to make tailored technique or end up with a trashy one. Luck also played a factor when it came to this method.

The fact that it was left there after being possibly tested by several people was a testament. If it was a godly technique that guaranteed sure wins, there was no way he would come across it.

’Are they crazy?’ Kieran wondered.

Such a dangerous and risky technique should have been locked up or trashed, lest they ruined the lives of one of the recruits, but strangely it was still there as if waiting for him to get it.

"Lost Origins? I see why!’ Kieran thought.

After reading the rest of the manual, he felt like he could faintly understand the reason behind the creator naming his technique like that.

Since the concept of the manual was to discover one’s self, both body and mind and find the key spots where his being connected to the weapons to form a technique specifically for him, Kieran thought that the name fit it just right.

’let’s see how it goes!’ He had purchased it and no other choice. He had to practice it if he didn’t wish to seriously compromise his growth.

....

In the hall of the combat division, Kieran’s unit. August, the instructor sat with a smile beneath his mask upon seeing the change on the holographic projection in front of him.

’He chose it. Good!’ He thought, letting out a small chuckle.

"That reminds me, I should send him the names of his fellow squad members. He should find it interesting enough!" He muttered, clicking some buttons on the holographic screen in front of him.

BEEP!

’It’s from the instructor! What does he want so soon?!’ Kieran thought, seeing who the message was from.

<Ah! I just remembered, I promised to send the names of your squad members when I had met all of them and I have, I’m sure you’d like the arrangement>

Kieran felt curious after reading the message and opened the attached file containing the names of those he was meant to lair with, possibly for the next one year.

And when he opened it, he understood what the instructor meant by he would like it.

’The hell?!’ Kieran’s expression hardened after seeing the two names.

The first name on the list was Derrick. The recruit he had just come to know after the last mission of the first phase, but that wasn’t what caught off him off guard.

The other person was someone he hadn’t had enough time to bother about. The activities of the camp had totally removed him from his mind, but he knew this was going to happen sooner or later. It was just a matter of time.

The second person he was paired with was none other than who could be considered his arch enemy. Richard Scarlet!

Their history way back to his school days, for years he had been bullied and stepped on my Richard, took it so far that Kieran developed such an intense hate towards him and he had no intention of forgiving.

’Took long enough!’ Kieran thought to himself.

The instructor was wrong. He didn’t like the pairing, he loved it.

...

In another part of the camp, Richard was also thinking the same thing with a devious smile on his face.

’Finally! I didn’t even have to go through the stress!’ he thought, remembering how Sabrina, Ruby and Jake had spoken against him about Kieran.

’Even the Aurora bastard! I wonder what you have on them’ he wondered.

Meanwhile, the instructor who was giggling at the entertainment he was about to witness, realized something crucial.

Although, he was going to find it entertaining to watch how their feud turned out, their hate towards each other was bad news for him and their squad. There was no way they were going to work well when they were always at each other’s throat.

"I should find a way to make them work together at least. They don’t have to like each other" The instructor muttered, thinking of a way he could solve the problem that had just presented itself.

"Arghhh! Maybe I shouldn’t have gone all out to draft the both of them over to my side. I should have just picked the Blade kid, even the Gale kid would have been better!" He said with a sigh.

"Huh?!" His gloomy aura took a sharp turn as he placed a hand on his chin, contemplating.

"I could do that... Yes! That could work!" he muttered before bursting into gleeful laughter.

.....

’How should I take care of him?’ Kieran thought as he made his way to the canteen.

He wasn’t foolish enough to think Richard was an easy opponent just because he had managed to beat him once. He had completely lost it that night and had managed to catch Richard off guard, there was no way something like that was going to happen again.

Besides, he was a Scarlet. One of the nine pillar families and Kieran had no doubt that he was also an awakened and had been trained since he was a kid. Technically, Kieran was at a disadvantage, Richard was probably better when it came to hand to hand combat. After all, it would be absurd if Kieran could jump the gap created by the vast difference in experience and background that Richard possessed.

The lifted restriction the instructor informed them about also happened to leave him with a bad feeling, he hoped it wasn’t what he thought it was, but if it was, he couldn’t really be that bothered. Either ways, he still had to find a way to deal with the problem.

"Wake up kid!"

Unknowingly, Kieran had carried those thoughts and ended up in the Kitchen, even ignoring the lady on the counter leaving her to stare in his direction with a strange look. The head chef’s voice had managed to make him snap out of it.

"Look at you! You’ve been gone for days!" The head chef said with a sour expression on his face.

"...." Kieran didn’t say anything and picked up an apron before joining the other chefs.

While the head chef’s tone sounded harsh, Kieran knew it was only out of concern for him. Even now that he was in the second stage and other opportunities of making CP had become available to him, he was still a chef in the kitchen as long as he didn’t terminate the agreement.

The work of a chef in the kitchen was highly sought after, even by the second years. That alone was a reason not to let go of the job, and he had to admit. He had gotten attached to the place and the people there.

"See me when you’re done!" Danzo said to Kiera who was still busy with the others, but the moment he did, Kieran’s watched beeped. It was a summoning from his instructor, August, asking him to meet in the next five minutes.

"Go!" Danzo, said when Kieran looked at him. He could see the struggle in the kid’s eye. It must be important if he didn’t outright ignore the message.

"Thank you!" Kieran thanked him before making his way to his division’s hall.

....

When he got there, he was met with the presence of someone else other than the instructor. Derrick gave him a small nod when he saw him stepping in, before closing his eyes. They seemed to be waiting for someone else and Kieran could already tell who that was.

They didn’t have to wait long before the main character of the event arrived with a mischievous smile on his face. Richard Scarlet had arrived and it was time!
