Chapter 89: BLACK

Unlike what Kieran was expecting, Ruby didn’t Cole back into the waiting room. She left the arena completely sending him a sheet text.

<Jake is fine, don’t worry about it>

His eyes flashed as he read through the message, feeling a little bit disappointed.

Just as he had expected, they didn’t want him associated with their business.

So far, he had seen Ethan, Ruby, and the white haired guy all defeat the enemies and it was pretty clear form their reactions to Jake a while back that he was if not on a higher level than they were, which only made it weird to see him challenge someone he most probably knew that he had no chance against.

’That shouldn’t be my problem of they don’t want me to make it mine!’

He thought, looking back to the arena where Liam’s match had reached it’s climax.

"Huh!"

A confused sound escaped Kieran’s mouth seeing the ability that Liam used, fighting against his enemy.

’Are they from the same family? No, that not possible, his name is Aurora!’

Kieran thought.

Liam was currently using the same ice ability that Ethan had been using earlier before copying that of his opponent, which made him wonder of Liam and Ethan were reacted and could possibly share tye same abilities.

He quickly crossed that out though. There were a few reasons why that couldn’t work; first, he was from Aurora Family and whilst from his behavior towards Sabrina, Kieran could tell that he was of a lower standing than her, he was part of the family none the less as he bore their surname.

Second was also related to their family ties, even Ethan was to be somehow related to the Aurora Family, there was no way a pillar family kf that standing would let him walk around blatantly using their unique ability.

He would have been long dead.

That left Kieran to the theory that the ice ability was unique to the Aurora Family and Ethan had copied it from either Sabrina or Liam before the fight, and considering how much Sabrina distanced herself from him and the extremely irritated expression on Liam’s face when he saw Ethan use the ice ability and win, Kieran could pretty much guess that it he had copied it from Liam.

BANG!

Kieran’s attention was drawn back to the fight which was still going on.

Liam’s opponent was someone who had appeared on the list Leora had prepared for him, so he knew quite a lot about him. Well, based off what he could find.

His opponent, Justin Black, was a 20 year old looking guy, which shared the similar features as his brother who was curenetly number one on the ranking list.

But unlike what others would think, that was where the similarities stopped at—the name and the looks!

In terms of strength, he was miles away from coming close to his brother, standing at the 96th rank of the ranking list, with a danger rating that even Kieran felt bad thinking about.

Not only was he weak compared to his brother, he was also well known by the other recruits has the failure of the black family, the presence of his brother in the number one spot only making his poor image stand out more.

Another reason why he was tagged a failure was because unlike his elder brother and tye rest of the black family, he manifested a different ability during his awakening.

Now, one thing Kieran had learned from Ruby and Jake was that members of the same families tend to manifest the same abilities, having inherited it from their parents and ancestors.

A child from a noble family manifesting another ability was considered to a failure, and immediately put on another training and upbringing plan, being considered by the family as one of the other kids they had adopted and raised to be part of their service system.

Even then, one thing Justin had over these kids was that he was a noble. He still had the name Black as his surname and if he put in enough work, he could manage to take his ability to a level where the family would accept him and welcome him back with open hands.

This was one chance the other kids could never have no matter how hard they worked, or how strong they became.

Accordingly to the stories and descriptions around, Justin wasn’t like the characters in the other stories who happened to work their ass off till they became strong enough for their family fo accept them.

No, far from that! He just happened to be a spoiled brat who didn’t give two fucks about what was going on around him.

Luckily he had a mother who cared about him and was always there to clean up his mess and even his elder brother used to dote on him, defending him even after he got into trouble, but that changed after an incident in the back house hold.

The brother became cold hearted and was sent here, to the Origin camp. Two years later, the family seemed to have had enough of Justin’s troubles and sent him here to the camp.

In a place like this where no one really cared about his background, especially when he had one that didn’t specifically care about him either, Kieran had expected him to breakdown or get his head in straight and become a man.

Maybe that was what his brother had hoped for him too, ignoring his cries for help and begs when he first arrived in the camp.

But contrary to Kieran’s expectations, he didn’t breakdown, nor did he get on the right track.

Yes, he got stronger, strong enough to appear on the Rankings, even though he was extremely low ranked.

But he had become a douche bag, a bully, exploiting his brother’s fame, riding on those he put below him.

He was the perfect representation of the type of people that had madr Kieran come to hate nobles on general.

He was just Like Richard when they were still in high school.

Kieran’s eyes darkened at this point, throwing a small glance at Richard who sat silently to the side with his eyes closed. He didn’t even seem interested in any of the fights that had been going on.

’I wonder what been going on with him’

Kieran thought.

Lately Richard had been more.... calm than usual. Ever since he had sent Kieran to the infirmary, he ignored him whenever they met.

Kieran didn’t know what to think—

"Get your eyes off me, before I rip em out myself!"

Richard’s cold voice resounded in the room, attracting the attention of those who had long since forgotten his presence in the room.

’Yeah, he’s still the same douchebag as from before’

Kieran turned his head away. It seemed like Richard had been ignoring his existence and acting like he didn’t care because of August’s threat.

’Either ways, that works for me!’

Kieran made a mental shrug.

As long as he didn’t have to deal with the version of Richard which madr him want to plant his fist in his face every second, he didn’t care if he had a personal change and decided go ignore him. It was what he wanted after all, besides getting back at him for sending him to the infirmary.

He had in no way forgotten about that, and in no way did he think they were even after he beat him on the day of his parent’s death.

He still had to get back at him for all he suffered in school. The cigarettes that had been put out on his face, being used as a punching bag to relive themselves of stress or being locked and talked down on.

Kieran planned to pay all that back tenfold, it was just a matter of time.

Looking back to the case of the person who reminded him of Richard and soured his mood, Justin, Kieran wondered why Liam would choose to face someone like that.

’Of all people he could challenge and win against, he chose Justin?’

This wasn’t the usual way, the nobles operated. Especially one from a pillar family like Liam.

Kieran thought, observing Liam’s expression which confirmed his thoughts.

Even the way he fought was enough for him to know that.he wasn’t fighting for the sake of getting onto the list. Instead, he was fighting for something else, something Kieran didn’t know about, just like Jake.

Kieran watched as he pulled his attacks at the last moment and faked his movements, trying to make the fight look real, and he was doing a pretty bad job at it.

He knew that too and he didn’t care to do anything about it either.

’Why did she have me face someone like this? Why not get him to do it!’

Liam though, tilting to the left subconsciously to dodge the sound attack that had just passed him.

Unlike the other members of the Black family who weilded abilities related to dark miasma and with some sketchy shadow and phantom related power, Justin was a sound user.

"Why don’t you stay in one PLACE, YOU FREAK!"

Veins popped up on Justin’s face as he screamed, sending a wide range attack around the stage.
