Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening-Chapter 93: Underestimated
The icicle that had shot past him and diverted his attention and allowed what he tries so hard to stop from happening—giving Raymond the chance to recover.
Kieran could feel his scythe get ripped put of his hand, landing somewhere to the far left with a clang.
Still, Raymond didn’t release his grip on his face. He raised his head up and slammed it several times into the ground.
BANG! BANG!! BANG!!!
With each hit of his head against the ground, Kieran felt his mind become fainter, his head rang like there was a high frequency device placed into it.
Unfortunately, Raymond was far from having his revenge. He lifted Kieran up to knee level by the head and slammed his knee into his head several times, his knee soaked with the blood drom Kieran’s face.
"How does it feel eh?"
"It must have been nice thinking you could hide your ability from me, right? Well guess what? I’m not so easily fooled, and now I’m going to make you beg and writhe in pain"
"Oh, I’m definitely going to enjoy this!"
Raymond bent to whisper into Kierans ears with a twisted smile on his face.
The had long dropped the pretense of a well mannered senior who was willing to teach the naive junior a lesson with some harsh spanks.
No, that wasn’t enough!
It wasn’t enough to vent out his anger and frustration he felt, the embarrassment he had been put through by this fool of a recruit.
Now that he knew that he was hiding an ability, he was going to crush it and he was going to do it in the most brutal way possible—without using his.
Prove to him how useless he was, a commoner. He didn’t belong here at all.
Raymond’s eyes darkened as his kind flashed with all these thoughts and his mad smile became even wider.
’The hell his he thinking now?’
Kieran thought, seeing Raymond’s crazy facial expression through his now reddened eyes—his face was only a few inches away from his.
While Kieran was still trying go make out what he was seeing in his world that was now painted red from the blood that flowed into his eyes, he felt his body become light for a moment before his gut caved in, a huge force pressing in on him and shooting him back, to the edge of the stage.
Raymond had just landed a kick on his gut, sending him flying.
"Hmm?"
Kieram groaned feeling the cold sensation of metal at the back of his right palm.
Turning his head weakly to the side, he could faintly make out the shine of his weapon against the same sunlight which brushed his injured skin with a warm touch.
"Bet you thought you could win right? What about now?"
Raymond’s voice came from quite a distance from him, approaching him slowly. He was really taking his time, focused on his goal to break Kieran, but he failed to see through his mistake from before.
Kieran was not to be underestimated.
’I can still move? Eh, this idiot’
The amber glow in Kieran’s eyes fluctuated, the regular pitch black eyes he had been born with pushing the amber color to the edge until it was just a glow around the rims of his iris.
’I can still try then!’
Kieran’s hand turned, gripping the scythe thightly.
Now that he had realized that Raymond had no intention of using his ability to defeat him, tagging it as something beneath him, Kieran’s fear of engaging in close combat against him had reduced significantly.
Instead of acting out immediately, Kieran rolled towards his weapon when Raymond wasn’t observing, busy bathing in cheers of the crowd with the same twisted smile.
With the scythe mostly out of sight, hidden by his body, he waited for Raymond who still wants paying attention to get close and then he threw some of the few throwing blades he had left at Raymond.
Two aimed at his knees and legs and another two at his guts where Kieran had beaten repeatedly.
Raymond’s reaction was swift and precise as of expecting some last moment struggles from Kieran.
His palm glided over those positions, catching the four blades in one swift motion.
That short moment was qhat Kieran needed. When Raynind looked back to the ground, Kieran was no longer on the floor and his eyes flashed to the side where the butt of Kieran’s scythe took up his whole field of vision.
’When?’
His eyes constricted and he tilted his head in a last moment attempt to dodge the attack, but the end of Kieran’s weapon followed him, smashing onto the side of his face.
Kieran wasn’t done with the attack though, he tightened his grip on the scythe and smashed down on Raymond’s shoulder, wielding his weapon like a staff.
CRACK!
A district and painful crack sound was accompanied with the landed attack and Raymond’s eyes reddened beneath his eyelids and his teeth grinded into each other in pain.
’I can see it!’
Kieran’s eyes widened and his brain was experiencing a level of clarity he had never felt before.
Due to the massive amount of energy which still flowed in him as he had yet to figure out how to use it like the beast said, Kieran easily recovered from most of the injures inflicted on him.
Other than that, the reason for his expression which was like his eyes had been opened was because he could finally see it.
What his instructor, August had been trying to tell him over and over again. He was certain that it wasn’t as defined as what August probably saw, but it was a start.
He could finally see those micromovements Raymond made whenever he wanted to male a move and that included how his muscle twitched and reacted to his hits.
This was why it felt like he was seeing his attack before hand. Something that resembled what Gillard and Ethan had been doing, but on a considerably smaller scale.
The dark in Kieran’s deepened as he pushed this state further, trying to apply it on himself too—going according to August words.
He had to master his self first.
’How?? There’s no way!! He is a physical ability user. Then why does it feel like he can see my next move?!’
Raymond’s eyes were completely wide looking like it was about to fall out, as he tried to understand what wss happening. He put his hand on his shoulder and popped the cracked arm back into place with a disturbing pop.
Seeing Kieran’s knee approaching him again in the same fashion, he slowly raised his palm and held the knee in place.
"I’ve been too careless."
Raymond’s voice was devoid of the playful tone or the crazy one. Instead what came out of his mouth was a flat voice and dead looking eyes.
"Tsss!"
Kieran hissed in pain feeling the grip on his knee increasing by several folds and before his knee could get popped, he swung the blade of his scythe at his arm forcing him to retract his hand before it got cut off.
He quickly backed off a few meters feeling a faint stiffness in his knee.
"You’re pretty good for an ordinary Physical ability user, and I don’t know what else you’ve got behind your sleeves, but it doesn’t matter!"
Kieran’s eyes narrowed as he took a few more steps back. There was something different about the way Raymond was currently acting right now. All the craziness which was previous present as he claimed to crush Kieran without his ability was gone. It was back to the the beginning of the fight when Kieran felt his body tingling.
’No! Ability or not. I can win this!’
He rid his mind of the doubt and stelled his heart, spreading his legs apart as he got into a fighting stance; calmly breathing in anf out periodically.
’I didn’t want to do it this way, but I don’t mind using just a little bit!’
Raymond thought looking down on his arm which had a long cut drom Kieran’s blade even though he had dodged it.
One thing about Kieran that Raymond misunderstood and even Kieran wasn’t aware of was that even before his partial awakening, he already had a weird constitution and was stronger than normal. How else would he have survived the constant beatings he had endured at the hands of Richard and the other kids.
After his partial awakening which he still didn’t know when it happened, his bish had gotten stronger, enhanced, bringing him up to the level of physical ability awakened who was at the first level which was how he had been able to inflict some damage on Raymond with concentrated attacks.
Infact, after the last attack, Raymond had changed his evaluation of Kieran from a level one ability user to a level two user. Ghat was the minimum level needed to actually make him bleed.
Still he didn’t think ut was anywhere enough ti defeat him.
With this, his figure flickered leaving small cracks on the floor as he appeared right in front of Kieran who was equally prepared.
They were about to go for another round.
