Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening-Chapter 96: Rank
Sabrin stared at him coldly and started walking towards him with calm steps, observing as his expression morphed trying to figure out a way out if his situation.
Sabrina extended her hand and the ice shards around the stage gathered to form a refined Ice sword which she placed on Cyrus’ throat.
"Tsss!"
Cyrus hissed from the sharp sting which came from the cold emanating from the sword. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Surrender and let’s end it here!"
Sabrina’s word’s sounded more like a decress rather than an offer.
"Alright!"
Cyrus said, his eyes flashing with streaks of electricity as he raised his arms up.
"Don’t even think of it!"
Her sword pressed harder on his neck, drawing blood as she warned him. Cyrus’ felt a shiver down his spine as he bore the piercing gaze from those two blue eyes which seemed to have seeing into his soul.
He didn’t doubt for a moment that she would cut him if he failed to play along without any resistance.
"Alright. I GIVE UP!"
Cyrus shouted finally and his name was grayed out from the display, announcing his defeat and Sabrina’s victory.
With that, the series of fights for that day and the past nine days had come to an end.
The challenge session was over. Only a very small number of people would go out of their way to challenge a ranker during the rest of the month, the possibly was even close to zero.
This challenge session was filled with surprises for the instructor’s and most especially the second year recruits of the third stage and above as their expectations of the new second stage recruits were crushed and most of them were forced to note that they weren’t the average recruits, some of them were worth taking note of.
7 of them—Kieran, Sabrina, Liam, Richard, Ethan, Ruby and the white haired recruit had actually managed go become rankers on their first try, which Sabrina managing to take up the 75th spot.
One person from the second stage getting a place on the rankings was rare enough, but seven? That was a whole new record in the long history of the camp.
"I was right about them! They are entertaining!"
August’s elated voice echoed in the empty space of the unit building. He had been right about this batch being very entertaining and his eyes curved mischievously, forming small crescents.
"This is surprising!"
A powerful voice vibrated through the air and those present in the room could feel their bones vibrate to his voice as they all observed the result of the ten day challenge period.
"Indeed"
A captain in the room, replied the head of the camp, Ivan Noah, whose attention was still on the pictures and information of the six second year recruits displayed on the screen.
"What about him? How did he managed to win a spot? The commoner kid"
"Well, he had been underestimated by the opponent and there is a high possibility that had has successfully awakened as a physical based ability user. Possibly an A rank."
The leader’s question had been answered by another official in the room, but the head waved his hands, dismissing the official’s claims.
"I don’t think so. He hasn’t been noticed going through the process of awakening. Besides, the kid August has been keeping tabs on him and he hasn’t reported anything abnormal yet"
The head’s voice was cool as he observed Kieran’s file more.
"As the one in charge of the kid’s file, he updated his status from not awakened to partial awakening."
"I shouldn’t have to tell you what that means. We can’t tell what ability he will manifest until he awakens completely. As for the issue with the reading from his watch, this is the first time we’ve come across a situation like this, so I’m not too surprised that there was an error in the reading"
"I don’t think our work is as average as you think commander!"
A man who was dressed in a white lab coat spoke in a dissatisfied tone. He thoughts on the words of the commander was obvious, but the commander interrupted him and prevented him from speaking further.
"Micheal, calm yourself. Your progress with the watch has been outstanding, bit the kid is an unexpected anomaly. As a scientist yourself, you should know not to rule out any possibly. August has eyes on him, you can ask for anything you need concerning the kid from him?"
"That crazy bastard?"
The man in the lab coats who the head had referred to as Micheal snickered when he heard August’s name getting mentioned again.
The other in the room keep silent as they watched the head scientist of the camp, Micheal, voice out their exact same thoughts.
There were also dissatisfied with that lunatic, August, but for some reason the head just happened to favour him and unfortunately, none of them had the balls to converse with the commander in the same manner as Micheal—another person who was considered to be crazy by the rest of the crowd.
It was rather weird, considering that the two people in question were very possibly mentally challenged or at least acted that way, one would thing that they would get along quite well with their sraxy personalities, but contrary to that, Micheal and August were like arch enemies from the very first moment they met.
It was like a battle between 2 geniuses of different fields on who was crazier and strangely, those two just managed to be the only ones that the commander visibly doted on.
"Dismissed! Michael, stay behind!"
"YES SIR!"
STOMP!
The officials in the room all said in unison and stomped their feet on the floor in salute before vacating the space, leaving the head researcher with the commander.
"Micheal. I want you to take a look at the kid!"
The commander said, turning to face Micheal who tool a seat at the side, going through the displayed holographic information on Kieran.
"Shouldn’t you be focused on the war that you started?"
Micheal glanced at the head, observing his reaction.
The head’s face remained the same upon Micheal’s mention of the war.
"The beasts still need sometime to prepare their forced, the amount of beasts surrounding the camp in general have reduced dramatically and specific hordes and groups have been spotted in other regions and paths"
"They’re trying to stop you from advancing, kore specifically the recon teams."
Micheal completed the head’s sentence.
"Exactly. We can’t expend our main forces trying to breakthrough those groups. Ruins the point–"
"–of sending a small group in the first place."
Micheal interrupted the head once again without care whilst still scrolling through Kieran’s file.
The head seemed to have become used to this as he ignored the interruptions and waited for Micheal to talk, seeing a familiar expression on his face.
"Well this is strange indeed!"
"I can see why you would have wanted me to take a look at him. Alright, I’ll see what I can do!"
Micheal said, taking off headed away from the room without waiting for further instructions from the head.
"Oh, I’ll send file to your desk, concerning this little war if yours!"
He said before shutting the door on the commander who now had a small smile on his face.
"Funny lads!"
The head of the camp, Ivan Noah, muttered, shaking his head before swiping his hand—a gesture to change the holographic image in front of him.
The new image was the same as ahat had seen a couple weeks back—gigantic spaceship looking outpost looking like it was infested with a virus judging from the rough black mass that sreaked all across it.
If one zoomed in, it would be seen that each each of those black steaks were made of several beasts.
The mommander glanced at it and muttered silently,
"Five S ranked creatures. What exactly is behind them?!"
"Sigh!"
He then met out a slightly weakly sigh, beside taking a deep breath and adjusting his posture again, eliminating any sign if weakness that had shown itself previously.
....
In his dorm, Kieran sat down stating unto space, before glancing at his arm which was now in a cast to make it heal properly.
For the first time, Kieran felt like the disadvantage of having a high healing factor for someone his level.
By the time he had arrived at the infirmary, his arm had already started to heal in that awkward angle and the next thing they did was to smash the arm again and rearrange it in the right way.
The pain felt bloody to say the least and then the doctor had made a weird comment on his he had smashed his hand himself in the competition without having much of a reaction.
Kieran’s face darkened as he watched a reply of his fight against Raymond, the recruit that had underestimated Kieran and paid the price of it.
Taking it off his mind, he went ahead to check out the reply of all the other matches and it didn’t take long before he was dome and all that was left was Richard’s fight.
Taking a look at the duration of the right, Kieran observed that it wasn’t like Sabrina’s fight that had ended almost instantly.
It had been drawn out like the other fights which meant he had actually had some sort of struggle or, he had just decided to spend his time terrorizing his opponent for the entirety of the match.
"Let’s see just how much the gap between us is!"
Kieran muttered, pressing the play button on his watch.
