Chapter 103: Dinner With The King

Ronan shook his head and looked at Arielle intently. "My name is not ’Your Majesty’, Sweetheart."

"King... Ronan....?" Arielle asked unsurely.

"Remove the king."

Arielle shook her head, refusing Ronan’s request. "I don’t think that’s polite, Your Majesty."

"I’m giving you permission," urged the impatient Ronan.

Arielle lowered her voice and then whispered, "Uhm... Ronan?"

"Huh? I couldn’t hear it. Your voice is too small." Ronan brought his face closer to hear Arielle’s voice, which was fading away. The girl’s face was as red as a tomato, but Ronan had no intention of stopping until he got what he wanted.

"Ro ... nan," Arielle said quietly and then covered her face with both hands due to embarrassment. "I can’t, Your Majesty! I’m embarrassed!"

Ronan chuckled and tried to grab the girl’s hands to stop covering her face. Arielle, who was still embarrassed, covered her face again.

"Okay fine, I’ll stop teasing you. Right, my name is Ronan."

(Not Amadea) he continued in his heart. (I was really daydreaming about something random)

Ronan lifted Arielle’s body and placed her on his lap.

"I called you to accompany me to work while waiting for dinner time later," said the man, who then gave a book for Arielle to read so that the girl would stay with him.

The dining area had been prepared with all the appetizers. Both Prince Alexis and Princess Andrea were waiting at the dinner table at the promised time.

Tania had been assigned by the King directly to serve the two because Tania knew better the habits of Prince Alexis and Princess Andrea.

"How long are we going to wait? Even Arielle hasn’t come. Are we being lied to?" Andrea asked in a whisper to Alexis. The man clicked his tongue, annoyed, asking Andrea to just wait.

Not long after, Lucas announced the arrival of King Ronan with Princess Arielle. Alexis and Andrea immediately rose from their seats and bowed respectfully, awaiting the presence of the King.

Andrea refrained from raising her head until she was asked to. She frowned disapprovingly when she had to bend over in the presence of her youngest sister. It was only after King Ronan entered that the two of them raised their faces again.

Alexis and Andrea’s brows furrowed together when they saw Arielle’s arm wrapped around the King’s arm. Alexis looked at the man. He didn’t know what expression the man was making, but Alexis could clearly see the bright red eyes behind the mask.

Lucas pulled the empty chair beside him for Arielle to sit. The girl looked doubtful as her two older siblings looked at her intently.

She tried to unhook her hand, but Ronan grabbed the girl’s hand back and forced Arielle to stay in his arms. It was only when the two of them arrived at the dining table that Ronan let go of Arielle’s hand.

"Please have a seat," he said firmly.

Arielle was still standing near her chair, making Ronan who was already sitting look at the girl. Alexis and Andrea had pulled up their chairs and sat quietly.

Arielle had never sat at the dinner table this close to Alexis, and it made her nervous. Usually, she would always be the one sitting at the very end of the table. Away from her two siblings.

"You can sit now, Arielle," said the King, making Alexis furrow his brows at seeing how casual Ronan behaved around Arielle.

Arielle sat, assisted by Lucas, who pushed her chair.

"Thank you for the dinner invitation, Your Majesty. It is an honor for me and my sister to be able to dine with you," said Alexis, opening the conversation.

"Hm," replied the King in a flat tone.

That night Ronan was wearing a half-face mask so that Alexis and Andrea could see the white scar that ran down the King’s right chin.

(Is the purpose of the mask to hide the ugly scar on his face?) Alexis was wondering.

Ronan glanced at Lucas, and the man took the cue to quickly serve the main course. The servants came with a tray each for one person.

"I don’t like small talk. So I hope you guys have eaten the appetizer before I came," said Ronan making Alexis and Andrea stare at the man.

The two of them hadn’t even touched the appetizer that had been prepared. They thought both of them should wait for the King first.

"How can we start eating without you, Your Majesty? We don’t want to be rude," Alexis replied, making Ronan grin a little.

Ronan grabbed a knife and fork, then sliced the steak in front of him slowly into small ready-to-eat slices and swapped his plate for Arielle’s plate. This gesture surprised Alexis and Andrea greatly. Likewise, it startled Arielle, who has been sitting quietly all this time.

"Do you guys need my help too?" Ronan glared at Alexis, who was staring at Arielle intently.

His sarcastic remark got the attention of the prince.

"Pardon?" asked Alexis, who didn’t understand.

"I don’t know the process of educating the King’s children in the South, but I do know the fact that Princess Arielle is not like other royalty. Sometimes there are basic things that Princess Arielle doesn’t understand," Ronan replied. "So I often help her, teaching her some basic things to be a noblewoman."

He added sarcastically, "Doesn’t King Hugo teach his children these basics?"

His remark made Alexis tighten his grip on the knife. Even though he was pissed off, the man smiled kindly at the King as best he could.

"King Hugo gave us an education. It’s just that some of us aren’t very interested in studying, so we fall behind the others," Alexis replied with a smile. He nudged Arielle’s leg to signal her to support his defense.

"Oh, is that so?" asked the King. Arielle lowered her head and nodded weakly.

Ronan clenched his jaws. He felt sick seeing the intimidating aura from Alexis’ body towards Arielle. He stabbed the steak pretty hard. He had seen with his own eyes that Arielle couldn’t fight her two siblings.

"Prince Alexis, I’ve always wondered, how bad are you at archery that you can’t tell the difference between a deer and a wolf?"

Andrea touched her brother’s hand under the table to warn him to keep his cool. Alexis hated being reminded of that incident the most. He always punished his brothers and sisters who dared to bring it up.

Maybe Andrea got special treatment because Alexis didn’t really make her suffer. After all, she was his biological sister.

"Your Majesty, my brother was not feeling well at that time. We all know that Alexis was not in good shape. However, to accompany the representatives of the North who came to visit, my brother still went to the hunting festival."

Ronan grinned even wider. He put down his knife and fork and tapped his fingers on the table.

"Ah, do we need to have another hunting party in the North?" the King offered, making Alexis’s competitive nature want to prove himself. He was sure of his ability to shoot animals with precise targets.

"I’d be happy to participate," said Alexis loudly.
