Chapter 609: The Ancient Curse (Cecillia’s Point Of Views)

The mysterious man I forbade to mention his name sent me back to the castle. As usual, he only dropped off after we arrived at the border of the forest. The man whispered something to remind me of my one month promise.

I went back towards the castle without turning back again. Even though I had walked quite far away, I could still feel a pair of eyes that had never left my back.

After I arrived at the castle, I was faced with a similar situation again. I saw the maid who replaced me at Mirai’s house was being punished in front of the others. When they saw me, it became silent.

One thing I had never thought I would get from my father, a hard slap hit my cheek, causing me to fall to the floor. My father growled furiously. I was far more frightened to see my father than the wolf.

I knew I had made a mistake for leaving Mirai’s house at a critical time like this. My heart was hurt when my father said that he was disappointed in me.

"Who is the man that helped you release Mirai!?" Father’s loud voice echoed across the room.

This time, my mother could no longer help me. She just looked down, not wanting to meet my eyes. I answered honestly that I didn’t understand what father meant.

I didn’t understand how my father could know that I was the one who let Mirai go, until finally a man appeared, telling my father everything. He was a guard who witnessed a black fur wolf attack the carriage belonging to Northendell’s entourage that was going to take Mirai.

The guard said that the man didn’t take Mirai with him. He left Mirai just like that, and when the guard wanted to save Mirai, he testified that he saw me with a guard. The man said everything in detail, starting from where I was taken away by that mysterious man.

My cheek felt hurt and stingy, and my ears buzzed painfully.

My father asked about the mysterious man again, and I only said that he was a werewolf that I accidentally met and became my friend. Yet, my father kept forcing me to tell the mysterious man’s name, but I couldn’t answer because I still didn’t know the man’s name either.

"Cecil! Don’t you understand the current state?! Father did everything for you! I’ve been looking for a werewolf for months, but you didn’t tell me about this at all? This is all for you, Cecil. So that you can live happily in this castle without worrying about the threats from other kingdoms."

I fell silent. My father really wasn’t someone I knew anymore. He got angry again when I replied that I didn’t know the mysterious man’s name. That night I got slapped twice in the same place and the only thing I could do was cry silently.

I still hoped that my father would return to become a kind and loving father. The one who always carried me when I was little, telling stories before I slept and combing my hair while saying that I was a special child that the god had sent for him. However, everything drastically changed since my father knew about the war.

I hated war, and every time I thought of a war, my heart hurt.

"Get Mirai and the guard who ran with her from Birwick. They must not leave Birwick. And if they are caught, punish them as the traitors to the kingdom."

I was speechless in my place. I ran after my father and knelt at his feet, asking him to take back his orders. No... I couldn’t let it be. Mirai... I didn’t want Mirai to be tormented again...

However, my father didn’t care about my pleading. Mother... my mother also just passed me as if my wish was just a passing wind. My determination to ask my father to take back his orders lasted for several days.

I, a royal princess of Birwick Kingdom, sat kneeling in front of my parents’ bedroom door, begging my father to take back his order to sentence Mirai to death as a traitor to the kingdom. For several days, I sat in the same place until my knees started to feel numb and hurt. The maids, the ladies-in-waiting, as well as the guards always tried to pull me up and asked me not to kneel in front of my father’s room anymore, but my desire to save my friend was much stronger.

The traitor of the kingdom? I was the one who betrayed the kingdom. Mirai was completely innocent. I was the one who gave the order for the woman to run away with her lover. I just wanted to thank her because Mirai had helped me a lot, and I didn’t want to trouble her anymore. Besides, I did it because I didn’t want my friends to be stuck in this place for all their lives.

Every night, I could only cry. I closed my bedroom window tightly because I knew if I opened it, then I would be able to feel a gaze that was directed at me. Maybe it would make me want to run away from this place without being held accountable for my actions.

At least I wanted to make sure Mirai was okay and made my father stop chasing them.

However, it seemed it was really difficult because even after fifteen days I knelt in front of my father’s room, he didn’t soften at all. My mother kept telling me to give up and forced me to tell my father the name of the werewolf I met at that time. However, I still gave the same answer, that was, I did not know his name.

The next day, my father stopped in front of me, saying that I would be forgiven and he would stop looking for Mirai as long as I was being nice.

I didn’t understand what he meant by being nice. Then, everything went as usual. However, this time I wore a better dress. No, I was actually dressed in my finest dress with a silver crown adorned with diamonds on my head.

Today, my father was accepting a guest. He was the representative from Northendell. I didn’t know what they were talking about because I wasn’t allowed to join them. Strangely, my father didn’t ask me to hide in Mirai’s house as usual. He just told me to wait patiently.

Until finally I met the Northendell representative for the first time. When I entered the hall, all eyes were on me. It turned out my father had made a bold decision. Behind my flat expression, my heart was overflowing with mixed emotions when I heard my father would send me to Northendell as the wife of King Theodore on the condition that Northendell was not allowed to touch Birwick.

Birwick would remain a sovereign kingdom with its own right and rules. My father had made his dream come true. A peaceful kingdom without war, using me as the price.

When I turned to my mother asking for an explanation, she averted her face as if she didn’t want to get involved with me anymore.

"Princess Cecil, I am King Theodore’s representative. Until the next few days, you will travel with me."

I looked up to see the man in front of me. I couldn’t feel the strange feeling that I felt towards the mysterious man whose name I didn’t know.

I had no voice, nor did I have a choice. Even my hand didn’t move by itself. My father grabbed my hand and told me to shake the hand of King Theodore’s representative that stood patiently before me with a radiant smile on his face.

It turned out even though I could finally see the world, I was still a doll. A marionette doll.
