Chapter 610: The Ancient Curse (Cecillia’s Point Of Views)

I asked for some time to talk to my parents. I wanted to ask for an explanation because my parents didn’t give me any explanation until now. They only said that I had to leave Birwick to go to Northendell.

My father said this was the consequence that I had to bear. If I didn’t let Mirai escape then, maybe I could still play in the castle with my friends. It turned out that without me knowing, my father had made a deal with Northendell. He had made a deal with King Theodore of Northendell that I would marry that man, and in exchange for that, my father wanted King Theodore not to touch Birwick at all.

Birwick would remain an independent kingdom despite the ongoing conquest of the small kingdoms by Northendell. It never occurred to me that I would be used as a political exchange.

All this time, my mother said that I would find the man I loved and could choose anyone to marry as a partner that would live together with the rest of our lives. My mother also said that my father would always support whoever the man I loved. However, it seemed that it was all just a lie.

Mirai ... did I regret letting Mirai go? If only at that time I didn’t give orders for Mirai to run away, maybe right now I was still playing in the forest to meet the mysterious man whose name I still didn’t know.

It seemed my cries weren’t something that could be heard either. Even when I cried in front of my parents, my mother and father averted their eyes, as if my cries that echoed throughout the room were just the sound of rain that would stop any minute.

A maid helped me stand up, and with heavy steps I got into the carriage. All the maids, ladies-in-waiting, and guards who were my friends sent me off with cries. I also couldn’t stop crying.

Even in front of King Theodore’s representative, I couldn’t keep my expression calm. We stared at each other for a moment. I wished that man could understand my sadness, but his flat expression made me lower my head again.

The carriage that I used felt very stuffy. There were no windows or ventilation for me to see outside. I even fell asleep because I was too tired after crying so much.

What about my promise? It took me another fourteen days to meet the mysterious man. Would this be my first time breaking a promise?

I wanted to cry again, but who would listen? Even the people closest to me didn’t listen to my cries. I had never been in such a state of confusion. It turned out that the price of a kingdom was greater than their own daughter.

After the carriage was moving quite far away, it began to slow down and finally stopped. The carriage door was opened and King Theodore’s representative offered food again. At first, I refused because I was not hungry at all.

"I was surprised not to see you cry again," the man said.

I looked up and glanced at him and then looked away again. Not knowing what to answer, I chose to keep my mouth shut. I was surprised when the man joined me in the carriage. I looked at him from head to toe, feeling uncomfortable being with him in the narrow space of the carriage I was on.

"Hey, um... you don’t have to worry. Northendell will treat you very well," the man said.

The man spoke too casually for a royal representative. I once saw the representative coming to Birwick, he was an old man with a long white beard, and I heard he died at the same time with the other Northendell entourage that almost took Mirai before. Maybe the man in front of me right now was a temporary replacement.

I just nodded because I didn’t want to say anything.

"Eat it. It has no poison. There is still a long way to go. We have just crossed the border of Birwick, and it will probably take us another three days to arrive at the palace," the man said again.

"Thank you," I replied.

If I was hungry, I could eat it later. For now, I had absolutely no appetite. My head was too dizzy with everything happening now. I felt someone still staring at me, and it made me uncomfortable, so I turned to the man.

"Sorry, I’m not comfortable being watched like this."

"Ah.. I-I’m sorry. I-I’m... a little surprised... you’re so pretty. Much prettier than any stories I’ve ever heard of."

I frowned slightly, not understanding what the man meant. The man covered his mouth. I could see the blush on his face, and he bowed apologetically then got back out of the carriage.

"What a strange man."

I could hear several male voices shouting to continue their journey. During the three-day journey, the carriage had stopped several times, and the royal representative would open the carriage door and ask if I needed something or not. I just shook my head because I was getting tired of the endless long journey.

In three days, I only ate twice. I only ate when my stomach really hurt. Somehow, whenever I closed my eyes, I could feel a pair of red irises staring at me, but there was no sign of the mysterious man.

Sometimes... amidst the boredom that struck me on a long journey, I would imagine that the mysterious man would come back and take me wherever I wanted. I ... didn’t really care much about the people at Birwick anymore. It made me feel really bad, and I started to cry again, but I quickly took a deep breath to hold back my tears from falling out.

Whenever I thought of something evil, I always wanted to cry, feeling sorry for having such a bad thought. In the end, I once again hid and accepted whatever happened to me.
