Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 62: Ronan Denying His Hunch
Namina rubbed his eyes and looked around the room, which was still filled with several sleeping knights. Only King Ronan was still awake. The king was wiping his favorite sword.
"Are you awake?" asked the king to Namina.
The nervous priest apprentice cleared his throat and sat down politely. "Yes, Your Majesty. Is there anything I can help you with?"
"No. Go back to sleep. There is still some time before these people will wake up."
"Th-thank you, Your Majesty. I... am used to getting up before the sun rises."
Ronan didn’t answer, and Namina just sat quietly in his place. The silence made Namina even more nervous. Until the sound of creaking wood made the two of them turn at the same time towards the stairs.
Princess Arielle had woken up. Ronan then kept his sword back. He reached out for Arielle to come towards him.
"Already up?" asked Ronan softly.
Arielle nodded briefly and looked around.
"Aren’t they cold?" asked the princess worriedly.
Ronan smiled as Arielle continued down the stairs and took his hand. He shifted so she could sit beside him.
"Do they look cold to you? Look, even if there’s an avalanche, they won’t wake up," Ronan replied with small laughter.
Namina was slightly amazed to hear the king’s crisp laugh. It was the first time for Namina, after fourteen years of living in the palace, to hear the king’s laughter. The boy felt he shouldn’t be there. He wanted permission to leave the room but was too afraid to start talking.
"Oh, you’re awake, Namina?" asked Arielle.
Namina nodded slowly. "Yes, Your Highness."
Ronan turned his gaze from Arelle’s face towards the little boy. Namina... Ah, he didn’t know the name of that boy. He had only seen the boy a few times with Priest Elis.
Arielle, who felt awkward being beside the king, chose to stand up and approach Namina. Namina was so shy to be approached by the princess all of a sudden.
"May I ask you a few questions?" asked Arielle.
Namina stole a glance at the king. He couldn’t see the man’s expression because it was blocked by the mask. Namina swallowed hard and still tried to smile kindly at the princess. But even though everything appeared normal, for some reason, Namina felt goosebumps.
"P-please ask away, Your Highness."
"Em... You can manipulate heat using trigrams powered by mana energy. And mana comes from within the body. Will the mana in the body always be full?"
"Oh, about the use of mana... For that matter, Your Highness can think of it as energy. There is a limit. So, mana will still run out if we use it excessively."
"Oh... then, how do we know if our mana will run out?"
"Er... I can’t quite explain it, Your Highness. It’s just that we can feel it ourselves in our bodies. However, what is most obvious to the eye is that the trigrams that we form cannot be perfect because forming trigrams requires a steady flow of mana," Namina explained patiently.
Arielle nodded. Namina twisted his hand and a moment later a trigram formed in his palm. Arielle felt the heat radiate onto her face making the girl’s face grow warm. The girl stared in awe at the trigram in front of her with sparkling eyes.
Soon came the sound of a rooster crowing, and Namina closed the trigram he created. The boy turned to the king, who was still staring at him.
"Um... Your Majesty, allow me to go out to reheat Princess Arielle’s carriage."
Ronan nodded his head and silently gave permission.
"May I come with you? I still want to see you use the mana trigram."
Namina looked doubtful, but he also couldn’t refuse the princess’s request.
"If the Princess really wishes so, please let me help you."
"Thank you, Namina," Arielle replied happily.
Arielle then stood up, but before leaving the inn, she was called by the king.
"Where are you going, Arielle?" asked Ronan. He felt upset because he didn’t get the girl’s attention today.
"I just want to see Namina work."
Ronan let out a long sigh before standing up too. He casually stepped over a soldier who was sleeping in front of his feet. And it didn’t take long for the man to catch up.
"I will accompany you too," said the man.
Arielle couldn’t refuse his offer. Namina preceded them to leave the room. Ronan held out his hand, and Arielle accepted it. The girl looked down shyly. It was not usually like this. After she understood how she felt about Ronan, why did everything feel so awkward?
Ronan opened the two inn doors wide. It made the soldiers who were still sound asleep shudder for a moment from the cold wind that swept in. The sky wasn’t dark anymore. There was no sign of the sun, but the sky was starting to lighten up again.
Something barked softly at them. Arielle saw a medium-sized husky wagging its tail at her. Arielle immediately unhooked her hands from Ronan to sit crouched on the snow.
"Heeeeeey," said Arielle, who was so happy to see a husky dog in front of her. The girl squatted down and stroked the husky’s gray mane which made the dog hum with pleasure.
The husky barked at Arielle and jumped into her lap.
"Wow," cried Arielle, overwhelmed by the dog’s large body. "Do you want to come with me?"
Arielle got up, and the husky heartily followed after her, which left Ronan stunned.
How could that girl be so easily close to an animal? Even their first meeting didn’t last more than a minute, but the husky already followed Arielle’s every word?
Ronan wondered about Arielle’s ability to approach animals. He touched his chest. Why was he just thinking about this? Perhaps the reason Ronan was so easily attracted to Arielle was that there was an animal... a monster, inhabiting his body?
(No way, it’s impossible.) Ronan thought, denying his own hunch.
