Chapter 662: Princess Irene’s First Decision

The teenage boy named Cedric arrived while panting hard. He looked down and patted his chest because he wasn’t used to exercising. Then, he reached out his hand and handed Irene a pair of black gloves.

"Earlier, someone said you left this on the desk. I brought it for you. Sorry, I have to come back soon because my class has already started. Good to see you! I’ll be waiting for you at the academy next month!" shouted Cedric who then ran again after returning the gloves to Irene.

Cedric was like a hurricane. He came so fast and suddenly, made a fuss, and left just like that, leaving some footprints in the snow. Irene lowered her head because for some reason her face turned red and hot.

Aimee stopped William from giving any comments. Arielle and Aimee agreed not to say anything after seeing that Irene’s neck and ears were very red.

Even Arielle’s existence, as a queen, was not noticed by the child. She could only laugh, enjoying what she saw. Hopefully this way, Irene would have a higher desire to learn and catch up with the other students in the academy.

Arielle extended her hand so she could walk together with Irene, Aimee, and William took a step back. The four of them contentedly looked around the academy. It was getting late, and the night was about to come, so it was time for them to return to the palace before it got too late.

Arielle expressed her gratitude to Mrs. Churchill and reminded the woman about her sister-in-law again. She would make Mrs. Churchill accept Irene no matter what it took. The academy guards bowed their heads to the queen who was about to leave.

Everyone got into the carriage. Mrs. Churchill bowed down until the carriage carrying Arielle left the academy grounds. William also paid his last respects to his former teacher. The royal carriage then left the academy to return to the palace.

In the carriage, Irene’s hands were being warmed by Namina. Then, Namina also warmed Aimee’s hand.

Irene, who was sitting on the same seat as Arielle, touched the queen’s sleeve shyly.

"Yeah? What’s wrong, Irene?" Arielle asked gently.

Arielle could see Irene’s fist clenched on top of the girl’s own lap. "I will try to get into the academy. I will enter the academy and become an outstanding student so that you and His Majesty the King will be proud."

Arielle smiled and held her sister-in-law’s hand. She released the fist so Irene wouldn’t tense up too much.

"I’m sure you can do it. After we return to the palace, I can tell your brother immediately. When do you want to start studying? Your brother plans to ask Aimee to teach you until you get another teacher."

Irene shook her head. "Can we talk about it later? I.. I want to say it myself to His Majesty the King."

"Oh, with pleasure," replied Arielle enthusiastically. Aimee and Namina, who were in the same carriage, smiled.

Did the lesson of turning fear into thirty seconds of courage really work for Irene? It seemed so...

"Huh?"

Arielle turned back to Irene who was about to put on her gloves. She and Aimee examined the gloves Irene was wearing. Both were black and had lace, but one was bigger and made of leather. The laces were also black, while Irene’s other glove had a size that fit her small hand. It had white lace and diamonds, also made of silk fabric.

Aimee and Arielle didn’t see the gloves that Cedric returned earlier because the boy just ran and left them. It looked like the person who gave Irene’s gloves to Cedric accidentally got them mixed up with another adult woman’s gloves.

Arielle then told Irene to take it off and use her gloves, which were not used too often. If the girl used oversized gloves, she was afraid Irene would still feel cold.

The entourage that brought Arielle and Irene arrived at the palace at exactly nine o’clock. Ronan was already waiting for his wife’s arrival, and so was Lazarus who was waiting for Aimee. After Arielle went down with Irene, she asked her husband to have a talk.

Before leaving the palace grounds, Arielle thanked Aimee, William, the knight, and coachman who had accompanied her and Irene that day. Everyone bowed their heads to salute the queen.

In her left hand, Arielle held Irene’s hand to go with her and she received Ronan’s hand in her right hand. Arielle couldn’t see her husband’s expression, but she could still clearly see the man’s brilliant red irises through his mask.

The three of them then headed towards the dinner hall. Even though it was very late, Ronan didn’t want his wife and sister to sleep on an empty stomach. Then, they sat together at the dining table.

"So, what did you get on this trip?" asked Ronan after taking off his mask and placing it on the dining table.

Arielle turned to Irene, asking the young girl to say what she wanted to say. Irene glanced at Arielle who looked down slightly. Under the dining table, her hands clenched tightly, and she did what William had taught her this afternoon.

"Your Majesty-" Irene shook her head as if correcting what she said earlier. "I mean... bro-brother..."

Ronan immediately put his hands on the table and then focused his attention on Irene. This was the first time Irene had called him brother, so Ronan almost smiled happily. He waited patiently for the child to share her thoughts.

"Eum... I.. decided to join the academy. There’s still a month and a half before the entrance exam, right? I will... try my best to learn to catch up with the others. I-I want to study!" Irene exclaimed loudly, almost screaming.

Even though her voice was still shaking and stuttering several times, Irene managed to express her thoughts well. She had used her thirty seconds of courage to the fullest. After saying it, Irene looked down again. She felt embarrassed for shouting like that.

"That’s good. I will immediately find a teacher. Until then, I will assign Aimee for you to learn to read and write. So, when do you want to start studying?"

"Tonight," Irene answered without the slightest hesitation, making Arielle surprised.
