Chapter 676: Cheer Up, Princess!

"For Irene."

"For Irene"

They said it all together.

"I saw Irene crying earlier, so I wanted to give her my handkerchief," Sasha added, glancing at the unfamiliar boy.

His height was only up to Cedric’s chest, while Cedric, as a fifteen-year-old child, was quite tall. However, Cedric’s height couldn’t intimidate Sasha in the least. He would only feel intimidated by a man who was taller than King Ronan or Kael. A geeky teenager like Cedric wouldn’t frighten him.

"Can you give this to Irene?" Cedric asked William politely.

William glanced at the two white handkerchiefs before and grabbed them at once.

"Princess Irene already has her own handkerchief. You two get out of my sight. I will take these and burn them when I get to the palace," said William, who still couldn’t get rid of his annoyance.

William walked away and got on his horse. He then asked the coachman to start walking. Sasha put his hands on his hips and shook his head. "Why did the man look so upset?" Sasha muttered confusedly. He didn’t understand why William looked like that.

"Princess? Princess Irene? .... Irene is... a princess?" muttered Cedric who was still stunned in his place.

Sasha turned to the tall teenager beside him.

"Yeah, Princess Irene is a royal princess and I’m her best friend, so you better keep your distance because her guards are very scary," Sasha threatened Cedric, then ran away from the teenage boy who was still rooted to the spot.

Irene’s carriage arrived at the palace faster than it should have. Arielle was not there. She had completed her royal duties and was currently with Abigail’s dragon eggs, while Ronan had not returned from his journey with Lazarus.

Irene came down first. Aimee called her to ask about what had happened, but the child just walked away. All the way to the palace, Irene kept quiet. Aimee had tried to comfort Irene or asked why the child was crying, but all she got was silence. Occasionally, Irene also cried again.

Aimee really wanted to stop the carriage and asked for an explanation from William, but it was better for them to arrive at the palace first. Something bad must have happened during the interview session. Aimee had seen several children who came out of the interview room while crying, so it must have been that.

William only looked at Irene who was running back to her room. He let out a deep sigh. It seemed he had to prepare himself to tell Ronan everything after the man arrived. When William was about to leave, Aimee held his hand, preventing the man from leaving. She didn’t want to be left in the darkness.

William gave up and asked Aimee to go with him. He invited the woman to talk in the reception room and then sat down on the long couch.

"So, what happened to Princess Irene?" asked Aimee.

"Sigh... I messed everything up."

"You messed up everything? What have you done?" Aimee still didn’t understand the problem because earlier she only heard Irene mutter that the child also messed up everything.

"It’s a long story. All this because of my uncle, Romario Altez. I don’t know if that man is a member of the directors of the academy. I think he is trying to take the place of his father who was once a headmaster and head academy director."

Aimee didn’t really know about William’s family. Hearing that the man still had family in the North alone seemed off because everyone knew that D Ashryver had long since left the North since their attempt to take the throne after King Arthur and Queen Zoe died had failed miserably.

"What did he do?"

"He did something terrible. He cornered Princess Irene very badly. Look at this! All of Princess Irene’s answers are correct! Only a few writings were still misspelled, but they crossed out all her answers just like that, and it made the princess get zero in her essay. It’s complete nonsense. I don’t understand why they did this."

Aimee received Princess Irene’s test paper, which had been crumpled. At the edge of the box for the name, there was a dried bloodstain. Aimee looked at William’s hand, which was also bleeding. Whether it was the man’s blood or someone else’s, she didn’t know.

Aimee read all of Princess Irene’s essay answers, and they were well answered! There was no logical flaw in the opinion or the fact written there. As William said, in almost every question, there were typos, but they were not fatal at all! It was a natural thing for someone who had only been learning and studying for just over a month!

This was so unfair. Since when did the place Aimee was proud of have hit rock bottom like this? They cared more about the form of the text than the answers itself!

"I can not accept this!" Aimee shouted and stood up straight while raising the test paper high.

"I also want to protest the same thing!" replied William who was no less fiery. He got up and stared at the all-white view through the window of the room.

"But Princess Irene accidentally told the truth."

"The truth?"

"Yes, after being cornered like that, it seems Princess Irene wanted to tell the directors of academy and teachers the reasons why some of her writings had misspelled. She said that she couldn’t read or write until the past month, hoping they would understand, but they weren’t. That’s when things were getting messed up." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Aimee covered her mouth in disbelief. She couldn’t imagine the feeling of being cornered the princess had to feel until she blurted out the truth even though they had agreed to make up the story. No wonder, on the way home earlier, the princess kept blaming herself.

"And my uncle took advantage of that to ask for unnecessary things. I was also at fault because I lost control when Princess Irene started crying. I got emotional and hit Romario Altez. If Princess Irene is not accepted, I will feel guilty for the rest of my life," said William languidly.

He never imagined that this would all end this badly. It was William D. Ashryver. The one and only right-hand man of the king, who was always good at negotiating, lost his cold demeanor and composure. It seemed William should immediately prepare himself to kneel in front of Ronan and Arielle.
