Chapter 705: The Gate Is Open!

"Never have I seen a queen have short hair like this, but you are very beautiful."

"Ah, this... something happened, and I was having a bit of trouble maintaining my long hair. That’s why I decided to cut it short because it was easier and lighter."

"Oh my goodness, is your husband not angry?"

"Ahaha, no. At first he was quite surprised, but he accepted my reason and said he liked it too."

"Oh, my... newlyweds in love," said Princess Bertha who saw a reddish mark on Arielle’s neck while fixing the girl’s hair.

Arielle could only smile shyly. Princess Bertha then told Arielle to go back into her room to rest. She also didn’t forget to praise Arielle who was very beautiful in a dress like that. However, it was a shame that Arielle couldn’t often wear a dress like that because of the cold temperature in Northendell, although the dress could make everyone stunned in amazement.

Arielle, who heard Princess Bertha’s praise, only smiled shyly and thanked the woman.

Princess Bertha returned to her room, leaving Arielle alone in the room. Arielle sat in front of her dressing table and took off all the jewelry from her hair, ears, neck, and body.

If there was Aimee, then everything would be done faster. That night, before going to bed, Arielle checked Irene’s condition, who was still sleeping soundly. After that, she returned to her room to rest.

The next morning, Arielle was back in her usual dress. Thick, warm, and covered all over her body. She was standing at the door of the manor with Aimee, Irene, and Princess Bertha, waiting for Ronan and his entourage to arrive.

Arielle was quite amazed how all the male servants who had always been bare-chested since her arrival were now wearing proper uniforms. It was green colored uniforms similar to the uniforms of guards and servants in the palace.

When Arielle met Princess Bertha’s eyes, the woman only smiled and Arielle knew that she had to keep her mouth shut about last night. She also said the same thing to the people who came with her, including Aimee and Irene, so they wouldn’t talk about yesterday’s matters to anyone.

The gate opened, and Ronan and his knights arrived. When the man got down from his horse, Princess Bertha and her servants bowed their heads slightly to welcome the king.

"Welcome to our humble residence, Your Majesty. I hope you are always under the protection of the gods," said Princess Bertha solemnly.

Ronan put his mask back on. He could see the surprise on his grandmother’s face when the woman stood up again to look up at him, then she covered her surprise with a subtle smile.

"It’s been a long time since we met, Grandma. How are you?" asked Ronan who then bent down to kiss his grandmother’s hand.

"Ronan... of course, I’m not doing well. I just spent my time lying on the bed. My age is getting to me."

"But, you look so fresh despite having so many wrinkles."

Arielle stiffened at her husband’s words. She couldn’t see the expression the man made, but hearing his flat tone, it seemed he was saying it seriously. Arielle turned to Princess Betha, afraid that her husband’s words would offend the woman.

However, it wasn’t an offended expression that she saw on Princess Bertha’s face, but a shy laugh as the woman touched her face lightly.

"Gosh... you haven’t changed at all. Still have a sharp tongue like your late mother. I like it ... then, if you don’t mind, would you like to have breakfast together while remembering the dozens of years that were lost between us, Ronan?" asked Princess Bertha while holding her grandson’s hand.

Arielle and Ronan just exchanged glances. She could clearly see his husband’s red irises glistening in joy under his black mask.

Princess Bertha served them in the dining hall where various kinds of food and beverages had been prepared. Ronan sat in the chair at the end of the long table reserved for the head of the family that Princess Bertha had sat on yesterday. Meanwhile, Princess Bertha now sat beside Ronan to respect him as the highest monarch in the room.

Arielle was invited to sit on the chair beside Ronan, then Irene was beside Arielle. It was followed by Kael and Aimee. William and Lazarus were nowhere to be seen. They still insisted on waiting outside even though it was freezing cold. They said they would return to the inn when the night fell.

"It’s been a long time. It feels like this table has never been this full," said Princess Bertha, who saw how full the table was after all this time.

"If you open the residence gate much earlier, maybe this table will be full since long ago," Ronan replied, making Arielle touch her husband’s hand and giving the man a gentle smile.

Ronan returned the touch of his wife’s hand with a soft grip. He didn’t understand that it was actually a sign for him to not speak rashly. He only thought that his wife wanted to hold hands because last night she slept without him.

(Did Arielle miss me that much?) Ronan asked inside his head.

(Please don’t say rash things, My husband. I beg you...) Arielle begged inside her head.

Instantly, Ronan winked at the voice of his wife inside his head. He smiled broadly and involuntarily let out a small chuckle. He had almost forgotten that they could communicate telepathically because of the mate bond between them.

(Okay... I hear you...) Ronan answered, making Arielle sigh with relief.

"Oh, I’m sorry... It’s just that I don’t like having men in my manor, and if I wanted to be honest, thirteen years ago events made me even more afraid of your bloodline, so I tried my best to stay away," Princess Bertha replied lightly.

"I can understand. Everyone will do the same thing," Ronan retorted, and a smile bloomed on Princess Bertha’s face.

"Thank you if you understand."
