Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 706: A Family Breakfast After Thirteen Years Apart
"Why did you suddenly change your mind?"
"Oh, I haven’t changed my mind. I’m still afraid of you and the other direct royal family. I’m still not comfortable with men either. It’s just that ... what your wife said last night made me a little interested and want to talk to you directly."
Ronan patted his wife’s hand briefly and let it go. His hands were resting on the table now, and he was leaning toward his grandmother.
"Something interesting? What’s that?" One of the man’s eyebrows arched up slightly.
Princess Bertha smiled crookedly, then did the same thing to her great grandson. Everyone in the room could see how similar the two people in different generations were.
"Before that, could you take off your mask, Your Majesty? I remember you had a very handsome face when you were young," said Princess Bertha with a subtle smile on her face.
"Are you sure you want me to take it off?" Ronan asked after hearing the request from his grandmother.
"Hmm? Are you hiding something?"
"I heard you don’t like being reminded of what happened thirteen years ago, and what’s behind this mask is a memory from that time that can never be erased."
Grandmother Bertha’s subtle smile faded, and her face turned more serious.
"Ronan, I won’t live that long anymore, and you are here now. Your sister is also here, even though a dozen years ago I gave up on her because I thought she was also the victim of your father’s curse."
Ronan looked at his grandmother for a moment, and from her expression, the old woman looked really wanted to know everything. Ronan had a lot of things to consider first. Indeed, right now there were only his people here, including Princess Bertha, so it was impossible for anyone to overhear the secrets of the Royal Family.
However, what made Ronan doubtful was the change of attitude of Princess Bertha. The woman had kept herself isolated from the Royal Family, but now she was suddenly interested in him and all the things that happened in the past. It made him wonder about the old woman’s intention.
So far, Ronan hadn’t been able to get the exact information about what happened in this manor. He only heard that all this time, Princess Bertha could only lie in bed because of her old age, which was already over a hundred. However, that wasn’t what Ronan saw now. The woman looked very strong for her age instead.
"If I hear any rumors of this out there, then I know who’s the one spreading it."
"I am still your grandmother, Ronan. Even though I’m not your biological grandmother, you are the great-grandson of my brother. I’ve been absent long enough from your life. I just feel guilty because you grew up well even though I’ve been away from you all this time."
Arielle looked at Ronan. She seemed to understand why her husband looked so doubtful. It felt as if King Hugo, her father, suddenly gave a bit of his attention to her even though the man had abandoned her all this time.
It would definitely raise a lot of doubts, questions, and suspicions.
Ronan brought his hands to the back of his head and unhooked the string that was tying the mask. His other hand held the mask then lowered it slowly. Not like the first time they met, now Princess Bertha looked over her great-grandson attentively.
Then, her hand reached out to touch the wound on the right side of Ronan’s face that ran vertically long enough to touch his jaw.
"It looks like it isn’t the claws of a beast."
"It’s not." Ronan looked at his sister first and then fixed his gaze on Princess Bertha again. "This was given to me by my mother. On the same night of that tragedy."
Princess Bertha’s eyes widened in surprise. "Her Majesty Queen Zoe?" 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"That’s what happened, but I don’t want to tell you the details. I’ve been planning to take this mask off lately. However, after dozens of years of using it, it feels like I’m naked if I don’t wear it, so I try to get used to taking it off in the palace. I still use it in meetings, though."
Princess Bertha lightly touched Ronan’s cheek.
"It must be very painful," she said.
Ronan just raised the corners of his lips slightly. It was not a smile, more of a self-deprecating reaction because of the irony that happened in his life. Besides, even though his grandmother showed her sympathy, it would not make him open up to her, considering he did not know Princess Bertha at all.
To Ronan, Princess Bertha was the same as a stranger who happened to share the same bloodline with him.
"It doesn’t matter. You’re still handsome. I want to talk to you more deeply after breakfast. Eat a lot. You must be cold waiting outside all day after such a long journey."
"If someone opened the gate much earlier, maybe I wouldn’t get cold," Ronan replied, making Princess Bertha laugh.
Arielle raised her eyebrows when Ronan glanced at her. The man smiled, then began to eat his warm breakfast.
(I’m just kidding) Ronan said to his wife inside his head. Arielle could not help but chuckle at her husband’s self-defense.
Princess Bertha stopped laughing. She then ordered everyone to start eating even though Ronan had already started first. And with the permission of the owner of the house, they ate heartily. Princess Bertha looked at her great-granddaughter one more time and smiled faintly before reaching for her spoon to scoop up the porridge on her plate.
Princess Bertha quite understood why Arielle and her great-grandson could decide to get married. Even though she was far from the palace, she had ears everywhere. She certainly heard how wild her great-grandson used to be when he was a teenager. The boy was surrounded by mature women, seeking pleasure from them with his friend named Lazarus...
Several noble women who had slept with him also visited her residence due to a broken heart upon knowing his great-grandson decided to take on the task as a king and began to leave his night life surrounded by numerous women.
Princess Bertha looked at Arielle for a moment, then nodded her head. The girl looked innocent and pure, as if she had never been tainted by anything. Princess Bertha had never heard much about the girl who said came from Nieverdell. However, judging by the way Arielle spoke yesterday, she looked quite ambitious behind her calm and innocent face.
’What a match,’ Princess Bertha thought.
