Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 73: Ronan And His Wolf Side
Tania checked the wounds on the fox’s body while Arielle asked Sebastian to provide warm water, antiseptic, and gauze.
"We’d better bring it inside to take care of it, Princess. It’s getting cold outside, and you’ve been outside for too long," said Tania while she reassured Arielle.
Ronan waited for Arielle by the manor’s door. He took off his gloves and coat, but then raised his head when he caught Arielle walking right past him without sparing him another glance.
"..." The man placed his hands on his waist, as he watched the young woman climb up the stairs then disappear down the hall of the manor.
Ronan received his mask from the butler. He removed the cloth that was wrapped around his face roughly. His footsteps were wide as he moved quickly in the direction Arielle disappeared to and reached the room
Without knocking at the door, Ronan just walked in.
Arielle and Tania were examining the fox’s wound and only glanced briefly at him. Before Tania gave her greetings, Arielle patted Tania’s hand to urge her maid to examine the fox again. Ronan decided to wait on the sofa.
Not long after, Sebastian appeared with a basin of warm water, antiseptic, and gauze.
"Your Highness, can you hold it tighter? I found two small thorns stuck in the wound," said Tania to Arielle.
The princess frowned at the two very small thorns on the fox’s feet.
"Take it out quickly, Tania, so it doesn’t hurt too much," replied Arielle.
Tania slowly washed the fox’s feet with warm water so that there was no blood covering or dirt sticking to it to avoid infection occurring.
"Ready?" asked Tania. She held onto some tweezers.
Arielle wrapped her arms around the little fox and nodded.
Carefully, Tania touched the thorn with her tweezers. After she gave the signal, the old woman pulled the small thorn quickly, it caused the fox to squirm in Arielle’s arms. Arielle held the fox’s mouth so it wouldn’t bite while her other hand stroked the animal’s body.
"Ssh... ssh... it’ll all be over...." she said. Her words were to soothe down the fox.
Tania waited for the fox to calm down so she could pull out the second thorn. The process of calming down the fox was not easy. The animal continued to wriggle and wince in pain every time Tania tried to clean the wound with warm water.
Ronan himself just sat watching. His eyes stared intently at how Arielle calmed the fox. This was really amazing for Ronan because it was the man’s first experience to see someone so close to another creature.
Arielle’s sense of empathy was different from what other people had. Ronan believed that not everyone would be willing to bother themselves only to treat injured animals. He was one such man.
"It’s done," said Tania after putting on bandages on the fox’s legs.
"The two of you can go now," the king ordered. He signaled for Sebastian and Tania to leave Arielle’s room.
Arielle was still preoccupied. She gently put the fox down to rest on the carpet. She smiled in relief when she saw that the fox was okay. When the girl finally looked up, she found the king seated by the sofa.
"Did you just realize that I’m still here?" asked the man as he took off his mask.
The man saw Arielle’s clothes which were dirty and bloodstained. He felt something in his throat.
"I’ll be back after you clean up," said Ronan before he got up, then left Arielle’s room.
He gave Arielle enough space and time to change clothes. After he gave orders to Tania with some maids to take care of the princess, Ronan left to rest back in his own room.
When he arrived there, the man grabbed his whiskey bottle and poured its contents into a cup. He remembered how the wild animal could calm down so quickly in Arielle’s arms.
Ronan took off his clothes one by one. He growled softly, his body slowly bent, a furry tail emerged from behind his body, and his hands turned into claws. In an instant, the king transformed into a wolf.
The wolf’s mane was completely black. It was dark as the night. On his four legs, he walked around the room and stopped in front of the mirror.
His two eyes glowed red like rubies, and there was a big scar across his face. They represented a bad memory in the past, the wound was proof that the person who gave birth to him hated this form.
How about Arielle? A girl who didn’t understand his world? Then what about the next full moon? His predecessors had tried everything to control the monster, but none of their attempts was successful.
Neither the priests in the palace knew how to control the monster.
The wolf’s body slowly shrunk and transformed back into a human form. Ronan sat down on the carpet in his bedroom. He ran his fingers through his hair. He looked closely at his face and chuckled.
His clothes were still scattered on the floor, and it seemed the man was still reluctant to wrap his naked body back.
Ronan just needed a clear explanation of this curse. The garbage stories that circulated among the people were clearly not the real stories. The man’s hunch said there was something big that his predecessors had always hidden.
He and his predecessors were half wolves. The legend often called them werewolves, but he could certainly control the changes between the human and wolf sides. He was trained from childhood to be able to control it.
Only on every full moon, Ronan couldn’t do anything.
It was as if he had been forced to sleep and his entire consciousness disappeared. The next thing he’d remember when he woke up was that he’d done some damage. Therefore, at every full moon, the guard at the palace was tightened.
They didn’t try to protect the palace from outside attacks but from the threat within itself, namely his existence, which one day could injure anyone.
