Lunar Awakening-Chapter 80: Full House (3)
Primax Academy was one of the top academy’s in the country, it nurtured children to be bright young talents who could eventually turn out to become superhumans or give them promising job opportunities.
"I want my sister to have the best education to give her a good future." As Leo spoke his father tried to sniff back the tears that was begging to form in his eyes too.
Even Roxy was left speechless in that moment, her eyes resonated in a new light. She now saw something she had not seen in him like ever before. She turned and faced Mr Neuman, "Speak up already, you heard his request."
Mr Neuman bit his lower lip, he felt Melissa’s hands wrap around his. He hesitated to speak for a few more seconds before finally saying, "What you have asked is within the scope of my abilities to some extent. If I were to get your sister into the academy it would be by my recommendation and would probably take some persuasion, I can most likely manage her tution fees for a year. And also her supplements, but a yeast the most I can do."
Leo could sense that the man was telling the truth, or perhaps maybe he was so good at lying that he believed he was telling the truth. To his surprise Roxy broke the silence in a loud voice, "What if you add my payment along with it, can you get her two years of tuition?"
Leo looked over at Roxy as they looked eyes, her bright blue eyes burned with a passion he had not seen in anyone. Then he felt a sort of bond, one that only existed within-- a pack.
"That won’t be necessary." Mr Neuman said with an awkward clearing of his throat. "It is only justifiable if the guardian or parent takes care of the child’s tuition after a year. I can assure that she gets in through a scholarship program."
Melissa looked up at her father awkwardly as well as the chief bodyguard, this gave Leo and everyone else the feeling that Mr Neuman never had a scholarship program to begin with and he was merely doing this from the goodness of his heart.
Leo sighed heavily as he spoke, "I understand. As long as you can do your part it would have made the entire ordeal worth it."
Trish who had been trying to control her pent up emotions finally burst into uncontrollable tears and throwing herself on her brother. "You didn’t have to do that bro, you used up all of your hard earned money on me."
Leo’s lips cracked as he pulled her tighter into a hug, his eyes trembled as they threatened to collapsed in tears but he sniffed it back. "Listen Trish, everything I do, I do for this family. As long as I can make your future brighter than it already is I’ll do it."
She wanted to speak but what came from her lungs were muffled gibberish. Leo pried his eyes from his sister who still clung to him and looked over to Mr Neuman.
"Why are you really here?" He asked in a cold tone.
Mr Neuman sighed heavily before saying. "You superhumans are all perceptive, aren’t you? But yes I am here for something important."
The warmth in the room seemed to stay the same before he spoke again, "You both have to leave to Hellscape as soon as you can. The fiasco of what happened last night will reach the government ears soon." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Roxy almost screamed. "Huh? I thought you had things under control."
"Even if that’s the case I see no reason for us to leave, we did nothing wrong." Leo pitched in.
Mr Neuman grunted before continuing.
"The man that was left brutally maimed in the battle was revealed by my intel to be a millitary surge spy sent to enter my inner circle. My sources supposed they were suspicious about the poster I had distributed."
The chief bodyguard spoke up this time. "I made it my duty to check everyone’s backgrounds prior but it seems this person was higher up in the millitary echelon. He’s practically one of the descendants of the great clans and he’ll want your heads."
Mr Neuman carried on. "I am still somewhat untouchable, though I might face some troubles with being the cause of all this problem but you two will have to leave the safety of earth if you do not want to be apprehended or interrogated."
After this there was a long moment of silence in the room. The first to speak was Roxy who sounded very irritated. "You really should have killed that bastard when he begged for it, not you’ve got a clan prick after your ass."
Leo groaned internally. "Any word of advice?"
Mr Neuman shook his head in dismayal. "For superhumans such as yourselves getting stronger is usually the way out of any problem. But I believe the matter will die down with time."
It did not take long for the man and his daughter to leave the Hall residence. Leo watched them leave and sighed heavily, feeling another burden on him that begged the question-- should he have killed that awakened?
For now it did not pose a direct problem to him or his family. And this time was different, he had allies to help if things went bad.
Roxy was the last to leave the moment it got dark, their final words were somewhat jagged and heavy. "Do you want me to walk you home?"
She snorted. "What am I, a slut?"
Leo smiled, "What you did back then with your reward—"
She cut him off. "I don’t need an excuse to help a partner of mine, now do I?" She leaned on the door frame and awkwardly rubbed her temples with her thumbs.
Leo said nothing for a short while, "I get that you have your own principles but can you tell me, what were you planning to do with your reward?"
Roxy bit her lower lip and said, "Now, now. Don’t you pry into my private life you schmuck."
For once Leo did not feel offended by her, he merely felt a deep pain welling up from her depths. "So I guess this is goodbye then."
She clicked her tongue and smiled deeply before saying. "How so? I know where you live, we literally shed blood on the same battlefield. Plus you’re fun to be around, if you feel persuaded you can tell me your base so I can check in sometime."
In an odd but chill way it felt like she was asking him out, but she wasn’t. Or was she?
Leo opened his mouth and said, "Glory base."
She smiled, "Good thing we don’t have phones there."
"Why’s that?" He asked.
She leaned forward and stared at him in the eye. "Then I can show up unannounced, catch ya later schmuck." She snapped her fingers and vanished before his eyes.
Leo stood there feeling a sharp pain in his gut, it was a pain he knew all too well. The pain of loneliness, one thing he knew was that his life would have remained the same had he not been bitten and maybe this time it would get better.
The next day Leo packed his bags with a change of clothes and said his goodbyes, it was the first time he would be leaving his home a bit accomplished. He set his sights forward on whatever hell the Hellscape had for him, one thing was sure.
He would come back stronger and better!
