Chapter 369: Travel and Travel Beyond Chapter Two Lakeside

The summer air was humid and oppressive. From the coastline of Anriel all the way to the foot of the Five Realms Mountain Range, mosquitoes swarmed their breeding grounds, and the quiet lakes in the valleys became their perfect haven. Birds were busy diving into the clouds of mosquitoes to hunt, while raptors circled higher, waiting for an opportunity to prey on those birds.

Beside that nameless lake was a bare little hill. With no vegetation on it, naturally, neither mosquitoes nor birds lingered there. The desolate and low hill stood out starkly compared to the nearby grasslands and other small hills covered with lush forests.

It was a place rarely visited by people, still an undeveloped land. Whether farming or herding, or even hunters living off the forest, none would come to this place. There was a widely spread story: beneath the small hill, there was a path to Hell. Sometimes, demons clad in flames would appear, taking the surrounding creatures as their meals; and at times, terrifying black fiends would emerge, whose sheer joy was killing, reveling in accurately stabbing the hearts of campers under the starlit night, or slitting their throats.

The lords who initially planned to build a trade route through here decided to abandon the idea. Though there are always rumors in this world, and most of them are baseless, the stingy lords weren’t willing to take the risk, fearing that those monsters might sneak along the future trade route into their lavish mansions, taking their lives or wealth.

However, the small animals here could live peacefully under the protection of such rumors. Without human disturbance, everything seemed calm and serene, and all creatures found their place in this world.

This summer was notably hotter than past years; the sun seemed more enthusiastic, generously radiating its energy. The dewdrops on the verdant grass evaporated under the blazing sun, creating a misty vapor, distorting and blurring the scenery. The humidity made all creatures feel a bit languid, even the birds in the trees were too lazy to showcase their vocals, only the cold-blooded green snakes found energy in the sunlight, excitedly gliding between branches with hissing sounds.

The priests of the Sun God Pate sang loudly to praise their god’s great power, their most glorious moment. However, in the minds of ordinary folks, they preferred that the sun wouldn’t ruin their crops, and Pate’s divine might seemed only to truly enter their prayers during persistent rainfalls.

But now, the small hill was eerily quiet; not only the small animals but even the hot summer breeze sweeping across the lake didn’t make a sound. It seemed as if they were holding their breath, awaiting the arrival of something.

"I’ve finally come out!" a shout pierced the sky, startling a flock of birds in the nearby woods to flutter into the air, accompanied by their chattering. In that instant, vitality returned to this scorching place, the wind rustling through the trees; mosquitoes went into a panic at the appearance of birds, their buzzing incessant; even the lazy frogs by the lake croaked happily as occasional accompaniment.

A beautiful woman dashed to the bare hill, landing on one foot, twirling swiftly like a dancer, then stretched out her arms and shouted with abandon, "I’ve come out!"

"Woo-hoo..." Behind the hill, a pair of white wings came into view. The little girl flew like a bird in the sky, soaring into the heavens. Every time the woman on the hilltop shouted with joy, the winged girl also joyfully soared in the sky, her clear laughter fluttering.

"It’s out, it’s out." In the blinding sunlight, a human figure wrapped in a black robe, leaning on a long staff, slowly emerged from behind the hill. The silver-edged hood cast a shadow over his face, shielding him from the sun’s glaring heat, but beneath that shadow, his upturned lips expressed his delight and joy.

"Lynch! I finally came out!" Zilvra pounced into the mage’s embrace, giving him a firm hug, "I finally came out!" The Drow woman had no other language to express her feelings. She released the mage, dashed quickly down the hillside, and collapsed onto the soft grass, spreading her limbs. The natural scent of the earth cleansed her soul, the intoxicating fragrance of flowers enveloped her body, and at that moment, Zilvra was completely relaxed.
